My Life is My Own... And the Future is Up to US! — "Enola Holmes"

Most people watched Enola Holmes because of Sherlock Holmes, but in my case, I became interested in watching Sherlock Holmes after watching Enola Holmes. "Enola" when spelled backwards is "alone", but she was never lonely!

It's a very interesting film in which people can learn a lot from. Let's talk about this amusing movie.

Enola is the youngest among three siblings. She was still very young when her father died, so she couldn't remember anything about him. His brothers also eventually left home trying to find their own path in life, so she was left with her mother.

Enola didn't go to school, but she's taught by her mother. She wasn't taught to be like all the other ladies around her, instead, she was taught how to watch and listen; she was taught how to fight.

On the day of her 16th birthday, her mother went MIA... but because of this, she was reunited with her two brothers. Mycroft, their eldest was disappointed with what she had become... and Sherlock was kind of indifferent at first. She was forced to become someone she doesn't want to be... but then she remembered what her mom told her, "There are two paths you can take --- yours or the path others chose for you." Obviously, she chose the former and that's where her life in the real world began. :)

Let's take a glimpse of the movie through this trailer below.

What I find very interesting in the film is that she talks to the viewers. There aren't a lot of films like this, but it was so fun every time she does that. I imagine a manga or an anime character breaking the fourth wall. I always find it hilarious. <3

Also, I must mention, there's this "useless boy" she met. His name is so difficult to pronounce and it's too long to say or write, so nevermind, but he's also a very interesting character. :)

This movie taught me a lot of things. There were a lot of motivational quotes from the movie as well. Let me share some below.

IT’S ALWAYS THERE, THE TRUTH. YOU JUST NEED TO LOOK FOR IT. — SHERLOCK HOLMES

I just find this one amusing because it totally makes sense. The truth has always been there, but we need to look for it. Sometimes, people tend to find it but refused to accept it because the truth sometimes hurts more that we expect it.

SOMETIMES YOU MUST DANGLE YOUR FEET IN THE WATER IN ORDER TO ATTRACT THE SHARKS. — SHERLOCK HOLMES

True enough! In life, we have to take risks. If we don't we become stagnant and devoid ourselves from opportunities. Life won't always be about luck alone, it's when our preparation meets opportunity. :)

I truly enjoyed the movie and I would love to watch it again. Another thing is that, I love Millie Bobby Brown!!! I love her as Eleven from Stranger Things... and now as Enola Holmes! She's super lovely and a fantastic actress! <3 I hope you check out the movie, too!

Have a great one! (^_^)/

I love the movie too, Shei! I've always been a fan of Sherlock Holmes but in this movie, Enola was the star. I like that Sherlock and Mycroft didn't outshine her, she deserved the spotlight. What did you think about the ending?

Hi Gail!!!

I like how she concluded the movie especially when she said the statement I used as the title for this post. :)
We make our own future... somehow, the concept of multiverse came to mind because there really are a lot of possible futures depending on the decisions we make at present. We will always be in control, unless we let others do it for us. xD

Technically, I like open endings because I can imagine various things as to how the story would go afterwards.

I really enjoyed the movie as well. I'm a fan of Sherlock Holmes but I knew the movie was going to focus on Enola. I was curious about how the movie would portray the sister of Sherlock and Mycroft. I liked the chemistry between her and the 'useless boy' Tewksberry (not sure if I spelled it right). Millie Bobby Brown is also a very talented actor. I was kind of hoping there'd be a hint of a sequel in the movie but I guess it could stand on its own just fine.

True!!! or a timeskip would be awesome... say 5 years after that final scene... ^^ Just a little peek on what future she made for herself.. ^^

Not to mention the many social commentaries the movies gives but it does not feel force or heavy.

I loved it too and will definitely rewatch and recommend others to watch it.
