Mother's day

Apparently, this day is celebrated on different dates in the world. I have no idea who came up with this idea. In the UK the first celebration without a religious influence was celebrated in 1644, in the Netherlands in 1925.
The idea is for honoring mother once a year for giving birth - some year after year which is appreciated by certain religions or nations - to what we call "our future".
My mother always wrote a long wishing list. The idea was we brought her a breakfast on bed (exactly the one she had in mind) and all the expensive items she wrote on that list.
My children rately gave me something. They have a bad memory if it comes to remembering celebrations and dates (including their own birthday) and do not care.
The bus-kid asked if I have any wishes and I asked for chocolate and marzipan which we most likely will eat together.
May 10 is Mother's day in the Netherlands and Belgium. Can you remember if and if so how it was celebrated as you were a child?
