New Noise.cash policy... Hivians might need to change their habits

New Noise cash policy.png

I've started out on the microblogging website noise.cash about two months ago and I had a lot of fun on it. There are around 450 accounts following my profile and this platform made me realize that I actually liked microblogging and interacting in this style.

A very nice asset of the platform is the free tips that you receive and you can give to other users. Each time you give some tips away, you can keep a part for yourself. This is a big motivation and it actually sums quite up over time. I think I made close to 100$ worth of BCH since I joined noise.cash!

The game is changing

Today however the admin of noise.cash announced a big change to the platform. The free tips will be reduced to people posting quality content. According to their post, 96% of the content on noise.cash is considered spam or low quality. This leaves not much margin for quality content...

I believe it's totally understandable that the distribution of free money is limited to people who actually post valuable content that brings something to the platform. The list of things that are not wanted is however quite long:

  • no giveaways
  • no meaningless small comments (there are really plenty of them and we would all love to see them disappear)
  • no quotes
  • nothing copied from the internet
  • no food talk (lol)
  • nothing that I quote „doesn't require brain effort to be created“ (I kind of like this description)

There will be some kind of ranking to define who gets tips and who doesn't

Each account will get a kind of rating that will show whether it will be eligible to get free tips or not.

No more support for Hive, Leo promotion

A lot of hivians were using the noise.cash platform to promote their hive posts. I actually did that a lot and got a lot of new readers to my posts. I will probably need to change this behavior.

There is one more thing that we will probably stop sponsoring in the future - that is promotion of competing sites (Leo, Hive, Peakd, Steem, etc...) and competing cryptocurrencies (i.e. anything except for Bitcoin Cash). Why? Well, our goal is Bitcoin Cash adoption and that's what we want to sponsor. We don't want to sponsor promotion of competing sites that promote their own cryptos or other cryptos. You are still free to talk about them, of course, we just don't see why we should sponsor it with FreeTips.

source: noise.cash

This is a major change for the hivians on noise.cash. I believe that the engagement on noise.cash will drop drastically if we don't have tips to give away.

So should we risk loosing these tips or should we simply stop putting links to our hive posts on noise.cash?

What do you think?

That will drop a lot of the activity on the site as hive was pushing a large amount of activity there.

I think that the content from hivians is responsable for a big part of the 4% that is not considered spammy...

my thoughts exactly! I sometimes felt bad for just voting the people from hive, but it is way too hard to find good content on the platform. If I found something >50% chance he was another hivian

Absolutely the same here :-)

Isolation never adds value to any crypto in today's conditions. To some extent, they are trying to reach their aim to raise awareness but they are not aware of the fact that it will turn into sh*t posts promoting the same thing to get tips.

Sad decision.

I agree with you. I mean we build a two way engagement. We talk about noise.cash on hive and rised awareness and we talked about hive on noise.cash. By bringing projects together everybody profits from the network effect... Whenever there is censorship, in the end, as you said, everything will look the same...

I tend to disagree. If the business model is as dumb as original noise.cash was (throwing free money at everyone), it gets exploited beyond what the network effect can give. I am not saying the change is going to save the day but I am saying the mistake had happened already.

I suppose they just scored another point for Leo's microblogging app, whenever it will come.

I was thinking the exact same thing. This will be a major selling point for taking the users from noise.cash to project blank...

I got banned from receiving free tips like a week ago :(. At least I now know why....

That sucks man. I hate when you need to fear to get banned at any time. In the end it's not better than traditional social media...

This is a very odd stance....

I agree, a bulk of the good posts on Noise are from this community.

Not sure what an echo chamber for BCH does to further the adoption of BCH....Just odd.

I understand that there is a lot of abuse and spam but it's a very narrow path between fighting abuse and at the same time limiting the quality content creators...

yeah I can see why they dont want us shilling hive too hard, but to not talk about any other crypto is pretty blatant censorship. The only thing missing was: 'oh, and if you talk about BCH, please positive news only'

I actually became a fan of BCH because of Noise. So their method is working, to get people to take notice of their crypto...But this is just weird. Not going to win people this way.

I looked a little deeper into BCH because of Noise, but when I saw the 'game' that was being developed on BCH I was rather shocked. It was ugly confusing non-sense even for an alpha state game. Hive games are much better and they dont set the bar that high tbh.

I will continue to have an eye out for noise.cash, but I dont think I will post there anymore. I was only promoting my Not-a-Lottery there and this is exactly something they dont want, because its a giveaway and Leo-Content.

Getting rid of spammy posts, one or two word comments, and comments that are just emojis is a great idea. What is not, is alienating people who are trying to build relationships and community like those of us posting from Hive and Leo. What is going to be left there when we are pushed out? What of the chambers? Aren't those supposed to be for people to create communities around their passions? The tips are secondary.

I agree with you. I welcome in a way that the spammy content isn't going to be supported with tips anymore. On the other hand the platform will quickly loose it's interest without the tips and if people can't cross promote their content. What's the use of snackable content when you can't use it to promote your business?...

I actually also don't see them as competitors though; it's because of Noisecash I got to know other creators and got to read quality contents.
But the spamming really was getting out of hand; was getting harder to find quality content to reward, so I know where it's coming from. Only don't limit us too much I would say.

I'll just wait and see how it'll pan out.

I mean when you look at noise.cash and you compare it with hive, it's already two different type of formats. You won't write 500 word posts on noise.cash. I believe that both platforms profit from each other. For example this post brings a lot of attention to noise.cash and it's on hive....

I agree that there needs to be abuse fight but then I think it's a mistake to put everything into the same basket...

We will see how this evovles :-).

Thanks for stopping by!

Yeah, I was also "cross posting", so know what you mean and it does feel too controlled, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and just see what will happen.

Enjoy your weekend 😊.

Thanks for mentioning this. I haven't seen the change of policy on Noise.Cash itself.
There's not going to be a lot of posts anymore when they don't want anything copied from the internet, no quotes and no references to other crypto platforms.
Although I read the latter is in consideration. I don't if it will also be forbidden if you write an summary of for your blog on Hive with a link.

It would be a pity, because quite some people from Noise.Cash joined Hive as well. And the other way around even more. I think it's stupid that they call it competing cryptocurrencies.

I think it's kind of short sighted to even consider crypto as competing... I mean we all own several currencies and in the end we use the ones that offer the most use cases. I feel very happy owning some BCH but that doesn't mean that I can't own Hive and enjoy hive as well.

A platform like noise.cash should want to attract as many serious crypto users as possible, wherever they are from and whatever other currencies that they are using.

I think this will be bad for noise cash. I think they had quite a big following but now people can't even shill their most liked cryptos. So I fully expect people to just leave and I doubt there would be many people using it if they could not get any BCH.

I personally want to see how much activity there will be if there is only 4% of the content compared to before. And how much their user count drops after all these people leave when there is no money to be made.

I agree with you. The tips are a very important part to keep people active on the platform. For users it's a great tool to build relationships. Without tips, I don't know what will remain. It's about time we have project blank ;-)

I think they might have gone too far in their restrictions. And they will maybe experience a drop in activity, and also adoption/new users.

I agree in the point of not supporting clear spam, but to not support messages about other cryptos I think will hurt them.
The brain effort one might also hurt them if they pull it too far and only "pullitser prize" messages get supported.

On my time on hive I've come to realize that it's very difficult to draw a lign between "good" content and "bad" content. When you look at the list of things that are not allowed anymore, I think there is not much remaining. The other thing that I wonder is how they want to implement that people don't talk about other currencies?

it's quite stupid and against what cryptos are all about which supposes to be decentralization

"nothing copied from the internet"

what does that even mean? Some images on the internet for example are free to use so why "nothing copied from the internet"

Yes man, I hate when platforms jump from one extreme to the other. First they allow every spam out there and then they restrict about everything happening on their platform.... Difficult to follow.

What is considered high quality content? I don't expect to read intense, in-depth articles on a micro blogging platform.
