Does Hive Need A Killer App To Succeed?
So much of crypto, especially in the gaming sector, revolves around the creation of some “killer app“ that will bring the masses in. I don’t believe there is a silver bullet that can accomplish this with one shot, but a combination of bullets with the right appeal and the right incentives will definitely go a long way.
When I look across the hive ecosystem it still looks quite barren. The only reason I came to hive was through Splinterlands, and the only reason I discovered Splinterlands was through the BNB chain. Now Splinterlands is a solid game and the overall project has very high ambitions, but I wouldn’t want to put all my eggs in one basket that a single project would be able to carry a block chain.
As I’ve started exploring hive more, there are more apps out there that are doing great things. I’ll quickly highlight 3Speak and LeoFinance/Threads since to me they are tackling the problem of getting popular web2 applications into a Web3 space (YouTube and Twitter).
Now don’t get me wrong, YouTube is gigantic and Twitter seems to be on the rise, but people use other social media platforms as well, and in much higher numbers in some cases.
So the question then becomes, who is going to develop the Instagram or TikTok of hive and will it be able to gain any significant traction? Maybe a better question is what will be the next major social media platform out there and can somebody build a version of it on hive concurrently? We should always be heading to wherever the puck is going, not where it’s currently at.
As bullish as I am on crypto with all of the positive sentiment right now, my conservative hope for a bull run still remains after the bitcoin halving next year. That gives us at least a year before things really start to heat up. Let’s see what the awesome builders on hive will be able to accomplish in that timeframe!

Great post @aftersound.
I think Hive platform is already doing well with the present web interface, but user like me, would appreciate a mobile application.
Mobile development would be great all around!
There is https://www.liketu.com/, but it has nowhere near the traffic that either Instagram or TikTok have.
Haven’t heard of it but I’ll check it out?
@sahidclement10 There is also the ecency app (on ios at least) which is excellent. I compare liketu with instagram, and ecency with facebook, in terms of describing them to web2 users. Obviously its not a perfect match, but its good enough to give people who know nothing about hive an idea of what the interface will be like.
