Nvidia may resume production of graphics cards for mining cryptocurrencies

Nvidia's management is considering the possibility of resuming production of video cards specifically designed for mining cryptocurrencies, in case there is a demand for them.
As Nvidia's CFO Colette Kress said, there is no exact data right now on how much video cards are going into the hands of miners. On the other hand, there is a shortage of RTX 30 series units in stores around the world as they are being bought out in whole batches.
"If the demand from miners is significant, we can resume production of special graphics cards. We have no data on how many RTX 30 series devices have been sold into the hands of miners, and we don't believe it's a significant number. We see a lot of demand from gamers and believe they are the core of our customer base," Kress emphasized.

By special video cards for mining we mean the devices on ordinary chips but without video outputs. They are installed in farms that do not require a connection to a monitor. Basically, ETH and other altcoins are mined with the help of video cards, while bitcoin miners prefer special ASIC devices.

Earlier, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mitch Steves said that miners bought $175 million worth of video cards in Q3 2020. In September 2020, Russian retail chain Citilink reported a 49% increase in sales of video cards for mining.nvidia_mozhet_vozobnovit_vypusk_videokart_dlya_mayninga_kriptovalyut.jpg
