Reddit Collectible NFT Avatars

Personally I don't find myself posting much on reddit however I do end up find myself on it pretty often when searching for things. It's clear that reddit gets a ton of traffic and there's a rather large and active community on it including those in the crypto space. I'll admit I don't do well on the platform because posting links outside of Reddit always gets me removed from groups lol. It's like a cult but I mean I get it and that harsh style ban and warning actully makes it a rather clean and informative platform.

Reddit announced on July 7th of this year 2022 the launch of collectible NFT avatars. They had introduced avatars before this as a place holder for people who didn't want to upload their pictures but it wasn't meet with a lot of response. However it now makes more sense that perhaps that was just a testing phase for the new NFT avatars.

What's kind of crazy is that this even happened in the first place. During the bull market it seemed like cancel culture ran crazy on reddit against NFTs and how they where polluting the world to no end. Still totally laughable because the power and emissions used by ALL crypto is like 5% or less that of printing fiat money. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH! So it came to the surprise of many when reddit adopted and launch their very own NFT platform.

You Might Have A Free NFT Avatar

Did you know if you where active, subscribed, voting etc on reddit you might have a free NFT avatar waiting for you? Yep! As part of the launch reddit decided to provide it's active community with free NFT avatars which you can claim. To do so you will, one need a reddit vault and two go to create avatar and you should get a little notification on this page if you get a free one. If not... well you're stuck buying one or a few if you want them.

Reddit Shows Us

Reddit clearly shows us that people want these types of collections and there's high demand for them. Proof of ownership and having assets on the blockchain is clearly the future and badges, avatars and other items which can be freely owned, traded and sold is quickly becoming the new world we live in.

What's really shocking at least to me is Reddit nailed it and got it right. The demand for these avatars has skyrocketed and even beaten major platforms like OpenSea. They have either own internal market, connected to the blockchain and the marketplace is massive. It's also exclusive to their large community and can be featured on profiles and as the avatar when posting and commenting.

It's much like what Instagram, Facebook and Twitter tried to do with authorizing profile pictures with NFTs which fell flat on it's face. Perhaps they would have done better launching their own platform but even that those don't feel like they would be avatar worthy and reddit really is one of the few places this style really makes sense.

The Snoo

Snoo is the name of the avatars which were introduced back in 2020. It featured free styles to customize your avatar. You can buy the new NFTs via the avatar shop at https://www.reddit.com/avatar/shop you can also view existing ones on OpenSea here Reddit Collectible Avatars which already has over 575 Ethereum total volume which is a sizeable collection.

It seems like more featured theme style avatars will be releases and I expect another new collection come November/ December during the holidays.

It is rather fascinating to see Reditoooors go from "NFTs are burning the planet" to creating 3M+ wallets on Matic because this time they didn't miss out on the money.

They have found a use case to apply to their ecosystem. I believe with the high traffic of Reddit, the demand might just increase and those NFTs prices will skyrocket!
