Are you a crypto fan or fanatic?

It is no surprise that the crypto world is just as diverse as the real world when it comes to the people that make it up. You are going to find all kinds of people from all walks of life and all across the globe.

Maxi's, mini's, people who are only in it for the money, people who think it is the future of finance, people who just like to write or take pictures or draw... You get the idea.

Just like the real world you are going to have fans, and then you are going to have fanatics. Here's a great example. My brother in law and I are both Michigan State fans. Where I consider myself a fan, he is definitely a fanatic. I remember one year his MSU flag was getting old and worn. He expressed an interest in getting a new one. My wife and I picked one up and gifted it to him for Christmas.

A couple of lost games later and the flag was back in our possession. No joke, he gave it back because "something wasn't right about it" and it was causing them to lose. That flag has been hanging in my garage proudly for years now, they have won, they have lost, life goes on.

Do you see what I am saying, fan vs. fanatic.

Now, I'm not saying being a fanatic is necessarily bad, but there is an irrationality that is tied to fanaticism because the fact is, fanatics are irrational.

Trust me, I believe in crypto, I think it is absolutely the future, but right now, we just aren't there yet and as a fan, I understand the importance of keeping a foot in both (financial) worlds. If I was building a house, I would make sure I had a place to live while the construction was happening right? I try to apply that same principle to crypto.

I was mildly called out by @cryptoandcoffee the other day for saying something about the fun factor with crypto. I'd have to go back and look at my exact words to remember fully, but I stand by whatever it was I said.

I see a lot of people taking this (crypto) way too seriously. Just jump into any crypto Discord group and see the people QQ'ing about token price or lack of development.

Don't get me wrong, I do feel there should be some accountability when you are investing funds into projects, but again there is a difference between being a fan, and being a fanatic. Fans build a rapport with the team and have that relationship where they can make fun but serious jabs. The team doesn't take it personally, but they know "yeah, I need to get working on that, people are expecting it".

Then you have the fanatics. Hammering on the same point over and over and over again. Often in a pretty impolite way. I am sure you have heard the term "beating a dead horse" before? Well fanatics take that to the nth level. The horse is dead, beaten until you have no clue what it was, the remains burnt, the dust vacuumed up and incinerated again until all that is left is molecules. Sorry to any horse lovers out there. I promise, no horses were injured in the writing of this post.

You get the idea though right?

You know that person who invested more than they could afford to lose? Probably a fanatic (or just dumb, either way...).

As @tarazkp would say, it is important to take a step back and leave your emotions out of it. In many ways, emotions are a fanatics biggest tell.

Bottom line, just have fun. I still stand by that. At this point in time, I see crypto as a hobby. I'm not a developer, I don't work for a crypto company (anymore), it's just something I believe in that I do while living my life and working my 9 to 5.

I get some people don't have that luxury, but I think having a balance is really important to maintaining your sanity.

What you're saying is probably even more important in that situation.

Yeah, I just see far too many people being rude due to the decisions they made. It's sad.

That is sad, and it's difficult to be sympathetic, even though you know where they are coming from. Many of these things require a degree of maturity, and certainly a little grace. Without wanting to get too serious and detract from the point of your post, I think it is also about taking responsibility for your own actions and decisions.

I think staying grounded and having a balance maintaining your sanity is the only way to be in crypto. I don't see this as real yet until you cash out and the fun side is what counts as it is great fun.

My wife is the same way. Until it is in the old fashioned bank account, she doesn't believe in any of it! :)

No one should invest more in crypto they aren't prepared to lose 100% of. It is a fun investment for me,.but I'm probably hovering towards fanatic side of the scale! Lol

I may have been there at one point, but a couple of bear cycles seem to nip that in the bud!

Good point. It's important to try and keep your feet on the ground. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

We are all entitled to our own opinion on how we see things especially when it involves Crypto. Crypto might be a hobby to you as been said but also it is a serious Investments taken by some people who put their trust in it.

I think that is foolish at this point in time. Luna is a perfect example of that. I think diversification is key right now. As well as just going with the flow.

Your right anyways a 100% trust shouldn't be attached to it

I was introduced into crypto as a total fanatic but as each months past, I started to learn (aka lose) and realize that I was initially guided both by greed and ignorance.
As of now, I am aiming to be a fan taking a few minutes to read and not investing (aka gambling) more than what I can afford to lose. :)

I think we all kind of start in the same place. I know I was there once too. Time definitely gives you perspective.

LMAO. Even I don't get it when some people take everything seriously. 😂😂 I'd only care if my life is dependent on something.

Personally neither a fan nor a fanatic. I just love the technology and money-making opportunities within crypto. More importantly, I am here to make lifelong frens & have fun with them. ❤️

The sad thing is some people put themselves in a position where their life does depend on it. These days you have to be 100% sure you have a plan before you go all in on crypto. Too many unknowns!

I'm something in between. I don't see us ever having good money without crypto. That meaning taking the power of issuing currencies from the hands of the central banks.

I can agree with that.

While being swept up the current of that insane rally of 2017/8, the Steemit phenomena, and the HardFork Series project I probably would have been categorized as a crypto fanatic. Maybe evangelist would be a better word for what I was. I thought blockchain was poised to change the world overnight and I tried to recruit as many people around me as I could so they wouldn't miss out. I regret that. Why? Because I learned few people have the discipline to hold during downturns and sell during bull markets. People sometimes make horrible decisions and take insane risks.

As the market ebbed, flowed, and ebbed again and all the hacks and rug pulls happened I realized I was more of a fan. The potential of blockchain and crypto is still very much here and it will change the world eventually (it already is, really) IF greed, deceit, unfair regs, and FUD don't thwart it to the point that no one trusts it. A good, long bear market might be what the space needs so those among us with sociopathic tendencies might move on to the next bright and shiny thing and leave crypto alone to grow, evolve and develop naturally.

I'll always be extremely grateful for all of the positive things and people crypto/blockchain have brought into my life but I have a more balanced view of it now.

I think I am slowly getting to that point too. People talk about how things move so quickly in the Internet age and the crypto space, but really we are still talking about close to a decade. Might as well just sit back and deal with it as much as you can.

I consider myself a fan. I am enjoying the journey of learning about crypto and getting involved but I still use fiat money and probably always will. I tend to hedge my bets anyway in most areas anyway. I don't want to be one of those fanatics who can't function when something goes wrong like their team losing and they can't go to work on Monday.

I am totally the same way. I think we need to find the happy middle ground between the two extremes.

Yes, that is the only thing that makes sense to me. I have been accused of riding the fence and not taking a side many times in my life. But I have never believed that either side has all the answers.
Enjoy your day, @bozz!😀

What if I am both? Fan and fanatic at the same time. Maybe even an addict on some level. Nowadays I spend hours every day on the Hive blockchain. This became a part of my daily routine.

As of today, most people if not all look at there crypto stacks to see how much cash they have. Minds have not shifted yet to thinking in crypto.

I tend to be a fan but it's because I am not relying on crypto for a living. However, I guess it could be different if I was.

I am the same. As much as I love crypto, I am so glad it isn't my full time job right now!
