Bozzlife: A bit premature?

I was getting ready to go to bed last night and I found myself going through my usual routine. If we have work the next day my wife usually heads to the bedroom around 6:30 or 7:00 PM to read her book. Usually by the time I wander in around 8:00 she has fallen asleep.

I know it probably seems pretty lame that we go to bed so early, but when you get up at 4 each morning to workout, it becomes a necessity.

Typically, I lay in bed for at least an hour going through my alerts on Discord/Ecency/Twitter, and reading through the latest headlines that Google has hand picked for me.

Last night I about jumped out of bed when I saw the headline you see above. I was contemplating waking up my wife, but I quickly decided against it.

The last time I had checked the price of Bitcoin it was around $33,000.00. It seemed highly suspect to me that it would have jump almost $10,000 in just a couple of hours without me getting some other kind of alert on my phone.

I quickly opened Coin Gecko and was greeted with the fact that BTC was in fact still sitting in the $33k range. I went back to my news stories and started investigating a little further.

The first thing I noticed was the fact that the story was reading January 4th. This immediately struck me as odd since it was in fact January 3rd where I live. Then I noticed that the site appeared to be from a site in Australia. Okay, that made a little more sense, it would be Jan 4th there if it was late Jan 3rd in the US. It still didn't resolve the fact that BTC was definitely not $42K according to one of the most reputable coin trackers sites out there.

I know from time to time different exchanges have different prices for the same coin/token. Many people take advantage of those differences to do what is called arbitrage where they purchase/sell the same item from different markets to take advantage of price differences.

It is possible that was the case here. It is also possible someone accidentally posted an article that they had written up in anticipation of BTC cracking the $42K mark. I am leaning more towards the second scenario, but maybe some of you who follow a variety of exchanges can tell me otherwise.

Sadly, I got to work just in time to see BTC temporarily dip back below $30K this morning. I think it is highly unlikely that we are going to see that $42K number that gave me a quick adrenaline rush last night.

Never say never though!

Lol I go to bed at 5am and have the same issue, if that makes you feel any better.

Its so crazy being on a 24/7 market with no after hours or closing times.

Oh wow, I can't even imagine that. I am so glad that I have pretty decent work hours. I never would have been able to do something like second or third shift.

No, Bitcoin was $42,000 for a short period of time. AUS :) Which would be around $33,000 USD.

I also go to bed about 8:00 PM and don't apologize to anyone. Give me any grief about it and I'll start texting and calling at 0300. Easy answer

Haha, good point! I wasn't even considering the exchange rate! That totally explains it and I feel like a bit of a schmuck for not realizing it now!

Yep - 42K AUD :)

I find it hard too. I track in USD as it is what most exchanges I use, use. But I live in Euro and then also talk to people in AUD :D

Haha, I feel really silly now. Oh well, I guess we all make mistakes! Hopefully we see $42K USD by the end of the week!

Haha, that is so funny, sad, and true all at the same time! I try to be better than most people, but I do tend to occasionally fail!

What is interesting, is it was that article I was talking about in my other post. That is the first Bitcoin article I have seen there for a very, very long time. It had to go 6x up in 9 months for a mention.

It is a News Corp Media (FOX) newspaper, like most of them in Australia, so it has its leanings I bet.

Ah yes, I wouldn't disagree with the fact that they probably lean a certain way. Someone else just wrote a post this morning about the news about cryptos that does come out of the UK is pretty much always negative. I hope we can one day change the narrative.

LOL, the world ends at LA (West) and NYC (East). If you look into the distance you can see the big void where the ocean tips its excess water.. hehe...

It is why so many of them think the world is flat :D

After reading the comments, Australian dollars makes sense. Sometimes these authors pen things a little too quickly. Looks like this wasn’t the case though, so good catch to those other folks!

Early to bed early to rise....

Never saw that hit either, pull back looks to have adjusted back over $30k, sounded like some rocking the boat with futures which will become a norm. Big players, big movements unfortunately some of us do sleep when this is happening.

Thanks for the report, @bozz. Yes, Bitcoin and other Cryptos are on the move.

Dude! You had me checking as well in my dazed state this morning! Then I realised it's probably Australian dollars. Trying to convert USD to GBP is challenging enough as that rate is all over the place with Brexit and shit! Maybe we won't be far off that in GBP too :D

Yeah, I guess it is pretty rare that I get Australian news stories on my feed that I wasn't even thinking it could be a different currency. I feel pretty silly about the whole thing now!

Ah, Aussie dollars! Have to be careful about what headlines you rely on. Good thing you didn't put in a high priced buy.

The current market must be making some nervous. It can change so quickly. Those who bought early must be smug though.

Yeah, I wish I had bought a bit more back in March or at least held onto more of it. I converted some of it to alts which haven't quite panned out yet. I will be paying better attention to the news sources from now on. Not quite sure how an Aussie story made it to my feed in the first place...

Hi everyone I very much hope that bitcoins will increase in value reaching the top of 40k, managing to bring many people to the profit including me. We must remember however that this also happened at the end of 2017, without any results. closed and I believe that speculation has been brought to the bitcoin market, but who knows only the future will give us the answer ....

(Edited)

I didn't see over 40k in usd price, rather other 30k, the highest price I saw was 34k USD, I got out a little early even though it might shoot up again but everything is just speculations and it only takes one whale to withdraw his money and it price would drop like crazy! For me, it's just too much volatility.

Yes, it can be quite volatile. I think the institutional investors will help equalize some of that in the future.

What's your speculation on bitcoin this year?

$100k by the middle of the year. Might hold right around there until the end. I expect a bit of a run at the end of Jan. More than what we have seen anyway.
