Bozzlife: Mannabase Reboot

avatar

Right near the beginning of my time on Hive, I was introduced to a project by @steevc called Mannabase. In fact, if you go and look at my list of crypto/blockchain bookmarks you will see it is the very first thing I ever bookmarked.

Back then I wwas still pretty new to this whole blockchain thing. The idea of universal income and all of that was this exciting new concept for me. I quickly signed up for my own account and watched as the rewards slowly started to trickle into my wallet each week.

I never touched them. Instead I just left them there waiting to see if the cents would one day grow into dollars or potentially more. I would get monthly(?) email updates from the team at Mannabase talking about what they were working on or the new things that were happening with the company.

Over the course of a couple years they started adding some relatively big names to their team who had quite a bit of knowledge and experience in the financial realm. With each new announcement, I got more and more excited about the potential Mannabase had.

Then, they sort of disappeared. To be honest I am pretty sure they released something saying that they were going to go back to the drawing board. I do remember reading something of that nature a while ago.

With that, I all but forgot about the Mannabase project. The link in my bookmarks had become something I scrolled past just to get to the other stuff in that list. In fact, when I tried to access the page this morning, the link didn't even work, the dashboard is broken.

Round 2

I was relatively shocked to see an email in my inbox yesterday from none other than Mannabase. It gave a little bit of information and then a link to this Medium article.

It would appear that they had some blockchain issues with their project as well as some validation issues that was making it hard to keep people from abusing the system.

Basically, if you don't feel like reading the whole Medium article, they are going to be launching Manna 2.0 in due time. They will be using BrightID to help verify accounts, and instead of being pre-mined like the tokens were in the past, they will be minting tokens per distribution.

It sounds like the majority of the changes they are making are working to move them away from some of the centralized processes they had in the past. I wouldn't be shocked if there were some legal or regulatory issues that prompted all of this.

I don't recall seeing anything sensational in the news, so perhaps the team was being proactive knowing that the project could be under immense scrutiny if they left it as is.

Personally, I will be following this because while they weren't many, I did have some Manna tokens in my wallet. I will be interested to see if they are going to offer an airdrop to compensate early adopters or if everyone will start from a clean slate. Since there won't be a pre-mine, it could be difficult for them to perform some kind of airdrop.

If you like the idea of universal income or you just want to know more about it, head over to their site and give it a look. In the past they had referral links you could share, but that isn't the case today.

Oh, by the way, this is not financial advice and shouldn't be taken as such. Invest at your own risk!

@bozz, I heard about it long time ago, good to hear about it once again. On and off is usual thing in this super dynamic and volatile space. Stay blessed.

was making it hard to keep people from abusing the system.

Same old story in crypto... the abusers.

I remember seeing banners on many posts regarding mannabase and this sort of universal basic income, but honestly haven't even opened their link and see exactly what's all about.

It is a concept that could change a lot of people's lives especially if the token were to see some real value.

If you get them, would you mind hitting me up on discord. As I said I was on the mailing list at one point but seem not to be now.

Yeah, no problem. I will probably even do a follow up post about it if I end up getting something.

That's funny. I just came across my Mannabase link today and was wondering whether or not it was still active. I didn't check it as I'd already spent quite a lot of time trying to get into my Smartcash wallet with out success. I figured they would both be really small amounts anyway so didn't spend anymore time looking.

There were a few things I was involved in in the "old" days that I lost touch with. Obyte was another one. I think I was supposed to be mining that by having my computer used for research or something. The use of my computer is still going on but I've never been able to get into my wallet.

I do most of my research mining through BOID. It started with doing cancer research, but this past year they have been doing Covid research, so I don't really mind contributing. I get some tokens that are not worth much, but it is for the greater good!

Yeah. I think it was a post of yours that alerted me to it. I'm happy to keep contributing to the research too but would like to at least see the tokens. Is my memory correct in that they are Obyte ones and, if so, should that be in a separate Obyte wallet?

BOID uses the BOID token and they show up in your EOS wallet as a separate token. You can also go to app.boid.com and login to see if you have your account setup. You will need to use Scatter to get to the EOS side of things.

Ah. Thanks for the information.

If they're not worth much I think I'll give it a miss. I don't have an EOS wallet as far as I am aware and no idea what Scatter is. All of this stuff is getting way more complicated than I was expecting when I signed up to Steemit to do a bit of blogging!!!

I saw that update too. Good to see it's still going. I am not sure how much I have. I think I heard about it from @lloyddavis when it was still called Grantcoin. I got a few referrals to make some extra and I gave some away. It was never enough to really worry about.

No, it was never that much. It was still a pretty cool idea and I am glad they are still kicking around.

I think I must have about 30k Manna, so it's a few bucks. Still can't log in to check. I assume old tokens will be carried over to whatever they do next.

I can't remember how much I was holding when it all went down. I am guessing it was only a thousand or so.
