Digitization of the economy: The way Venezuela chose to end physical money

This post can also be read in Portuguese

A very strong market trend is emerging around the world, which is the digitization of the economy or, if you prefer, the digitization of money. We can say that maybe this could take a few years or even decades, but because of the pandemic that has dragged on until today, the world needed to change.

Of course, we should also not forget that the advance of BTC-led cryptocurrencies is a great indication that the global economy will no longer be the same in the near future. Large companies today obtain a share in their funds in BTC or in some alt of great value like ETH.

Now, when we see that the BTC is worth more than US $ 30k, are some countries beginning to realize that they must change the way they deal with their economies to prevent them from drowning more and more in a crisis hole? Well, Iran for example has already said that it has a large reserve of BTC in store and probably many other countries should follow suit.

The Venezuela that everyone knows is under heavy pressure from the sanctions imposed by the United States and its economy has been getting worse in recent years. President Nicolás Maduro even tried to find a solution in 2017, the creation of a national digital currency called Petro that in theory should be backed by Venezuelan oil.

Well, it was literally a real fiasco. The idea was interesting, but there was not much support for the project. What should help the country's economy on account of sanctions has become something that has not yielded favorable results. So the way out was what countries do most anywhere in the world, printing more paper money.

With this attitude, the Venezuelan bolivar currency had a significant loss of 95.7% of its value against the dollar in 2020. What is the solution in the face of this economic hell? Well, Maduro again wants to bet his chips on the digital economy once again.

The Venezuelan president wants 100% of his entire economy to be digital, that is the answer so that the country can escape its hyperinlation and the withdrawals of the United States. It is an attitude that we can say is quite bold. In the meantime, I don't need to say that paper money is losing its value and importance in the economic scenario.

Well, for that, the population must also be well prepared because how can the elderly be able to undergo such a transition in a short time? At least the idea is that everyone can be aware of technological innovations. We know that there are many Venezuelan hivers here and for them I believe it is not a problem, as they are familiar with how things happen here on the blockchain.

It is a very interesting journey if Venezuela really ventures, in China for example some provinces have already had several tests in thousands of establishments with their national digital currency. Even if it is a controlling government, we know that the system will be centralized, that is, people will not have the same freedom as we are used to having with our crypto.

The truth is that regardless of whether Maduro chooses this path, it is yet another sign that the physical money we know, may in a short time become obsolete. Perhaps our grandchildren will be able to have the contact of that same money in any drawer of the room kept or something that could serve as a collector's item.

People need to know that there are cryptocurrencies that give us all freedom of choice. We are our own bank and that will never and no one can take from us. We are free to decide what we do with our digital money. Is there anything better than that in the world?

Qual a solução diante desse inferno econômico?

State issued currencies in all forms may also become obsolete. Since most should understand that it isn’t about the type of currency unit but political control.

You said it all friend, that's why with cryptocurrencies we are far from centralized control.

All Venezuela did was try and control all of his people by creating his own coin and making all paper currency obsolete.

Unfortunately things are not good there, I am sad about the situation that the Venezuelan people are going through. As long as this "government" continues, things are not going to improve anytime soon.

Petro did not have much support because the USA said that for them it was not a legal currency and that it would not be accepted in the USA.

I believe that the problem in Venezuela also has to do with trust in the government. They have been trying to control all devises for a certain time and the people have been suffering from hyperinflation. If the digital money is just there to replace the paper money then it won't be a solution either. It will be just much easier to buy stuff if they don't have to carry tons and tons of bolivares to buy stuff.

It is true, friend, unfortunately the government is largely to blame for this, for leaving the country as it is.

That is why many people there use cryptocurrencies to survive because their fiat currency is practically worthless.
