In different countries we noticed that the voting method is quite different and among the old envelopes to electronic systems, Russia had promised that it would innovate in this sector and would use blockchain technology as a test for the parliamentary elections of Yaroslavskaya and Kurskaya this September. , something that for its people would be an unprecedented case in the country.

The elections were held in two specific regions, Kursk and Yaroslavl. Firstly, more than 15 thousand people were interested to participate in this feat, the elections had been scheduled for September 14th. With a total of 30,000 voters who voted and went down in history as the election that had the most votes through blockchain technology.

Responsible for this entire process was Waves Enterprise, which used its online voting platform. Everything went according to plan and promoting safety and speed, Artem Kalikhov, the company's product director pointed out:

“Everything went smoothly. The elections took place on a licensed network, managed by Rostelecom (Russia's largest integrated provider). The company was hired by the Central Election Commission of Russia, which in turn subcontracted Waves Enterprise to build the platform's blockchain. The 10 nodes operated by Rostelecom have not been publicly disclosed in order to prevent potential cyber attacks. "

It would not be utopian on my part to think that in Brazil this type of technology could be something to be used. Unfortunately for decades my country has been known for its scandalous corruptions and in politics it is the center of this rot. Who knows, in a few long years this blockchain-based voting system could be used here.

One of the highlights for this election was the fact of transparency, because for blockchain it is something well known to us enthusiasts. All transactions were public and in these transactions the cryptographic hashes were recorded by the platform and could be viewed by anyone at any time. In total, five cryptographic keys were used in a decentralized manner, which together would form a single master key. In order for us to observe the results, the predetermined numbers of the keys would be needed.

For Kalikhov he hoped that the votes would give something around 1 million, but that number did not even reach 10%, but he expects that this system will be available for the next elections in Russia and can serve millions of people. We know that depending on the blockchain this will not be difficult, but it is a different and new technology for Russian citizens to be able to learn. It will be a matter of time before it becomes standard.
