Long Weekend As If We Need A Break

source
Haven't had a holiday in over 5 years and after the lock down don't exactly feel like one anyway. I have had enough rest to last a decade and in no party mood as work has to come first.

This weeks started off great with everything opening up on Monday and the possibility of getting things back to normal after an extended period of lockdown. I had no idea however that come Wednesday afternoon we were heading to a long weekend with Thursday being a public holiday. The first I knew we had a holiday this week was at 5pm on Wednesday evening and it kind of screwed my weeks plans up. Time is of the essence so Friday is a write off as there is no point as no one does business on Friday especially sandwiched by a public holiday.

I suppose it is great for hotels and restaurants along the coast as that seems to be where everyone is heading. I just don't get it though as where is all the money coming from as I am skint. I guess it is all on credit as that is how the world works today. I just can't live like that though as if I can't afford something I don't partake.

Society seems to live for today and will worry about tomorrow when it happens. I remember the fly now pay later holidays when I was living in the UK and thought how can anyone really enjoy themselves knowing they still have to pay for it.

Personally I don't believe we are over the Corona virus in South Africa and at some point we will close again. I really hope that doesn't happen but one must always cover for worst case scenarios so seeing everyone heading for a family weekend along the coast doesn't make any financial sense in my brain.

I am sure it is only the top echelon of people going as everyone I know is still staying at home as they are in the same position as me. Companies that I deal with have still kept their bubbles for now and are still being cautious about who they see. Listening and reading between the lines over the last week with my clients will only open up very slowly and we are still a few weeks away realistically. Why throw everything away by letting down your guard now as the sacrifices we have all made will be for nothing.

This is exactly what happened in Europe and the United States and these morons are no better doing exactly the same thing. Work wise the country cannot afford another lock down so I am quietly praying it does not happen.

That's humanity. No matter how many public holidays you have you always want more. Obviously those who have their own business think differently.

As a business owner guilty as charged my friends and family even asked me why I didn't attend their party and I was just not going to bother explaining the fact that none of them are going to pay my bills if I land up in trouble, so I kept quiet, kept the peace and went on with my work

I think even if I was working for someone I would most likely be more worried as you just don't know. Having your own business helps I think as you are more in control. This is why all these people flooding away taking a holiday break is plain madness.

Some people never change and can't be educated either. They are always taking the easy way out instead of getting involved doing something useful and meaningful.

I fully agree with you, I worked yesterday and I'll be working today, the last thing I need is loss of income, south african's are all too happy to jump on a free day for some reasons. If you told me tomorrow I can give up my right to vote and public holidays to be exempt from all taxes I;d do it in a heart beat.

Ive actually come to terms now that we will probably have a second wave lock down even for numbers that don't validate it, we set the precedent and why wouldn't the ANC want to use that power if they could.

Eskom not getting fixed, tourism is dead so a lot of markets we depended on will have a new demand curve. People don't see whats coming, I've been trying to get out of the Rand as much as possible holding USD EUR and Crypto for now `i can't exactly have physical gold apart from a few krugarrands but I am okay with that.

I know I am a doomsdayer but I don't find comfort in oh we in the shit together so its fine. I'd rather save myself

Have been getting foreign currency as well so you are not alone with that one. Have a contact which has helped out regularly. This is going to tank at some point and we should all have a back up plan. Hive is not doing it's thing by hovering around 15 cents but at least we have that as well if required.

can't exactly have physical gold

Why? Is there a state regulation limiting gold you can hold or you can't afford it? Just curious.

While I agree with you, there is something to be said for getting out and taking a road trip and spending a couple of days in a new town where you can explore new places to eat and cool things to see. I was really bummed when we went to the UP and I wasn't able to check out some of the breweries up there because of the restrictions.

Yep. That is certainly true but I don't believe now is the right time to be doing that. What is wrong with just waiting this one out and making sure it goes away. With all the movement by everyone this is lingering and hanging around like a lost fart.

Oh, I totally agree. That is why we pretty much stay home. I was just saying I wish It would hurry up and be over.
