What You Need To Know About Ledger Hack Summarized With Security Tips

Ledger Hardwar Wallet (https://www.ledger.com) used to be regarded as extremly secure way to keep your crypto safe. It's still very safe. What's not safe is the way the company handle customer data. This video will cover all the basics you need to know and the extent of this mess. I'll add bullet points to make it even easier.

  • Wallets themselves are secure
  • Ledger using Shopify CMS is partially to blame
  • It's not just E-mails..... physical addresses, full names & phone numbers were leaked
  • Data is now leaked an public
  • There have been many spam & phishing attempts
  • Due to leaking of physical addresses, blackmails of physical violence is a real thing
  • Now people know that you own crypto
  • Criminals know you have decent amount of crypto
  • Government agencies will now know you own crypto
  • SIM swap attacks will screw you over with SMS based 2 facto authentication

Protect yourself

  • Use https://haveibeenpwned.com or https://www.avast.com/hackcheck
  • Don't reply to spam
  • Use authentication apps instead of SMS
  • Keep a separate E-mail apart from your personal E-mail
  • Don't have your package shipped somewhere that isn't your physical address
  • Don't disclose your phone number
  • Check the package for any tampering!
  • Create decoy wallets to deceive robbers/hackers
  • Keep your private keys split in 2 (or multiple parts) & stored at secure locations

Never Buy Hardware Wallet From 3rd Parties! They Could Be Tampered With!!!

Most of the time this is done with giving you a pre-determined wallet seed to enter. If you do this..... your crypto will be as good as gone!

When using 2FA remember not to turn off "Allow Multi-Device". It's a tip I got from a comment. This way you are reducing the attack vectors on your 2FA to a single device.

Thanks for the tips and info! I looked on there and it seems I might not have been but I’m not specifically sure. Was it all people who own ledger devices?

It's the people who gave their personal info to Ledger. Eg: you gave them a shipping address and it's your home address. Now it's likely leaked to the hackers.

Ah I looked last night and I don't know if I've got all the security measures in place but I bought it from Amazon I think or a vendor of some kind. I didn't buy it directly from them. I do need to set up 2FA though for sure

There's many dangers to buying from 3rd party sellers. Too. Hope you thoroughly checked the device to make sure there's no tampering.
