Are SMTs still coming?
Wouldn't it be kind of great to be able to wrap tokens such as LEO for example and trade it back and forth with all kind of Ethereum tokens on the Uniswap protocol?
Am I correct that this is not really possible because LEO is not a real token, but just something made on the Hive-Engine? Could SMTs change this? This is a big opportunity to finally showcase that HIVE is more than just a social platform!
What do you think?

Why have I never heard of this?

But it's not really just about SMTs, is it? If there is no community behind them then it's worthless. Who is going to create some tokens on a WeYouMe platform?
EDIT: I read your post and it makes sense now.
Blocktrades posted in one of his articles that his team will start on SMTs after their work on this hard fork is completed. Based upon the latest post and delayed fork, it appears their work is not done with bugs being found.
He stated they will look at the code that Steemit Inc put together along with other options that are out there. It most likely will be a part of Hard Fork 25 whenever that rolls out.

That's actually some very good news!
Thanks!
This is actually a cool feature that not many know about (yet) and one that we're also adding access to on the new interface that we're building.
You can instantly swap LEO into ETH and BTC by simply using https://swap-app.app or by sending a transfer with the proper memo to the @swap.app account.
Right now it's just one sided (sending LEO to receive BTC/ETH) but the other side is coming soon where you'll be able to swap BTC/ETH directly into LEO.
Not exactly a wrapped token, but I would argue almost as good since you can easily go between chains with a simple swap function.
