Shitcoins Today: Issue #3

avatar

So what exactly do you do with all the shitcoins in your Hive Engine wallet? Besides earning more of them? Do they even have any demand outside of pure speculation? Not even talking about getting listed on external exchanges. Although, that is great for the token holders.

One of the fundamental issues of these assets is that they have no use case. Sure, you could burn some tokens in exchange for votes, but that's so last year. Do you enjoy being part of a perpetual token machine that does nothing but to generate more of itself? Ugh, haven't we moved on from bid bots yet?

It would be unfair to assume that issuers have not tried their hands in the use case department. LEO had its hands in its own shop. NeoxAG has some use cases inside their community. Other than that, there is not much beyond DEC in @splinterlands.

Lucky for all of us, there are ways we can throw our tokens at something while feeling like we are doing something.

Case Study: dCity

Hijacking @zaxan's image because I can.

It's a stroke of genius by @gerber to have a game where users could utilize other assets on the chain. The game appears simple, but it incorporates the greater ecosystem of Hive.

All that CCC collecting dust in your wallet? Now, you are holding art festivals. Instead of waiting for auto-@amico to give you some BEER, why not own your own brewery that gives dividends? Who cared about WEED before you could run your own plantation? Are you a science buff hoarding all those STEM tokens? Now, you can hold conventions and attract scientists to your city.

What's the point of it all? To improve your city.

There are also indirect benefits of creating demand for the tokens. A player only has a few ways to acquire them. They either buy from the market or participate in their respective communities. Either way, there are more positives than not.

Give @dcitygame a try. It's low maintenance and doesn't require you to stay glued to the screen. It's like a Sims game with a lot less graphics.

Closing Thoughts

There are lots of untapped potential at Hive. The question is how one would extract that potential and still benefit Hive. The brief look at dCity offers some insights for future dapp developers. That is, if they wish to attract people from all walks of life.

You don't have to involve everyone's shitcoins. But, it wouldn't hurt to see how involved those shitcoins can be.

I just hang onto them with no expectations. They’re not worth trying to sell though.

For the most part, they aren't.

I'm just glad there are some uses for them at the moment.

Been away for some time. Just now getting back.

Not quite sure yet what I will do with all the shittokens. Probably sell most of them for my favorite token LEO :-)

I did get some SIM today so I may keep the shitokens useful for dCity :-0

Trying to dump all mine, the number of failed games has made me most distrustful and of any new ones arriving.

I’m not in a particular hurry, but I get ya. There have been a lot of flops.

This makes me think of a project that I am pretty heavily invested in. It is called BOID and basically you mine tokens by using the spare processing power of your computer. The more resources you put towards it the more Boid Power you generate. The more Boid Power you have, the more BOID you earn. The token is worth next to nothing, but the real value comes in the fact that while mining tokens you are also solving real world problems with your computer like mapping cancer markers or researching a cure for Covid. It is kind of cool.

The token seems like a distraction to get people to offer their computing power.

Thanks for your nice mention, dear @enforcer48
I decline your invitation to play with @dcitygame because I am already too busy understanding the game of life: this explains the reason for my small automatic distribution of !BEER 🍻?
!tip and a huge hug! 🤗
