Open Letter To New Users

avatar

Today I had some free time and besides my usual feed, I decided to go post hunting, see what new users are posting. We got a lot of new accounts lately, those may be new users or just an alt of an old user, but based on what I saw today, these were brand new users with little or no clue about what is going on here.

Landing on Leofinance is a wonderful thing, but compared to other platforms, this is not Disneyland, not by far. There are a lot of things you have to learn and understand and if you're the act first, learn later type, or better yet I know everything type, you're going to find out the hard way that that's not how we do things here.

I've seen users teaching others how to buy and sell tokens on the internal market, after they have just figured out how to make a buy and did one single transaction.

There's a confusion about what Hive, PeakD, Leofinance, ecency is. Some honestly have no idea, others are playing dumb to grab some tokens. You can play dumb at the beginning but then you have to face the consequences and that goes to transacting on the market as well. You may get lucky and make a good deal but you can easily get burnt.

Here's a few links for you. Make time to read and learn as that's the only way you can survive and do well here. Learn from other people's mistake, not your own.

leofinance.io — a social media interface for content creators in the financial niche
hivestats.io – an application for tracking & analyzing Hive blockchain account statistics
hive - complete guide to the Hive blockchain
leopedia.io – an open library with the goal of educating the world about crypto
dex.leofinance.io — a decentralized exchange for Hive-based tokens (0.25% fee vs 1% fee using Hive Engine).

It would be nice to figure out how to get some type of landing page or newbie zone one must interact with when their post (not comment) count is less than 2 or 3. That may end up getting spammed but would be an interesting thing to configure into some of the front ends!

This is going to be a problem. Users will either leave or struggle, making bad decisions. Things are complicated for those who are used to Fb and Twitter. A smart solution is needed here. Mass adoption will happen one day.

It's the only way. We have to help them anyway we can, otherwise the community gets weaker and weaker. I see no other option.
