The Future Of Social Media, Smart Shopping Lists And Hive

avatar

It's interesting to see how life and our lifestyle is changing. What was trendy and great a decade ago is no longer applicable. Waiting for supermarket's brochures in your mailbox to see what is at discount price then rushing to the supermarket to get some is outdated. Printed brochures are rare, you get the app on your phone, can check the offers a week in advance, bookmark the products you'd like to buy. Then you can just check your shopping list in the shop, get the products you bookmarked earlier and save both money and time. Based on the QR code generated by the app on your phone, you get the discounts applicable to certain products that week and pay less.

After paying for the products, you don't even leave the shop and the receipt is already uploaded to your profile, plus you get more incentives, a few products at discount price to make sure you go back next week as well. From marketing standpoint it's a good strategy and if you have self control, it allows you to save a lot long term.

Smart Shopping Lists

Shopping lists have evolved in the past few years. There recipe sharing platforms with shopping list option already integrated. You choose a recipe or even more and you get a shopping list with all the ingredients you need for those recipes. No headache, no paper that you either leave at home or lose on your way to the shop.

All this is taken to another level by retailers and tech companies. Whisk, an app that allows you to monetize your content (recipes) and also allows users to turn recipes into shopping lists, are teaming up with retailers, allowing users to order the products on their shopping list online and having delivered.

Covid-19 caused restrictions and lockdowns has forced many to order online already, getting people used to this lifestyle. This new smart shopping list option makes our job more easier.

Hive And The Future

Right now not many can see what our blockchain can be in the future. There's a certain level of mistrust as a part of the users are only looking at the price of Hive and that's all. They want it all right now and also want the cake and eat it too.

We already have a cooking community that can be developed further. We could have a dapp that allows you to share and monetize your recipes that can generate a smart shopping list. Retailers could join the program, offer their products and delivery services, that could be paid with Hive or even with the tribe token.

Obviously at this point what I'm saying is wishful thinking as we're not there yet, but it's possible to get there in the near future.

This could be extended to other areas like DIY projects. Anyone could upload a video or a post about how to make a table at home for example, or how to crochet a blouse, you name it. You could create a smart shopping list with the ingredients you need for the project and order from the shop that is connected to the dapp in your area, have everything delivered to your doorstep.

It's a bold plan for this stage as we're not yet there, but we have the potential to get there.

What do you think? Is this a crazy idea? Can you see it happening in the future?

Actually, I think it's a cool idea @erikah, because I believe it's the niche communities that are going to forge the path ahead for Hive, not Hive, itself.

I think we must — to some degree — shake the notion that we have to focus on Hive, and think more along the lines of how Ethereum works, except better. LeoFinance is already a shining example of what you can do on Hive, but it very much has its own identity, as a community. If we had 20-30 niche communities like that, Hive would end up getting pulled along by the success of the individual communities... while still being in demand as the backbone of everything.

And yes a cooking/grocery community seems like a totally suitable niche... it's clearly defined and has a pretty broad support base.

Imagine how many women are running a cooking blog and how many are looking for recipes worldwide on a daily basis.

The problem is right now that these small niche communities are run by simple users like you or me, who doesn't have coding skills or financial bases to develop it further. They are using the option implemented by hive. I'm stating facts, not criticizing.

Maybe someone with knowledge and necessary financials could exploit this angle and capitalize on it. It could be huge.

Obviously we have to get the token accepted by exchanges as well but it can happen.

Yes, you're exactly right... the technical aspect is one of the hurdles. And there's a definite business opportunity there: "Somebody" built LeoFinance, and right now "somebody" is building a new feont end and apps for @jongolson's CTP Talk community. So why not have "somebody" with technical expertise set up shop to create customized front ends and environments for Hive communities? Seems like the time has come...

Yes, the time has come and I truly hope someone with the necessary knowledge and finances are going capitalize on it.

Yes, it's a crazy idea. But I love them. We could add more crazy ideas, like sharing digital reading, books or fanfics. Encouraging a book club would be ideal. We could also add a school study system, sharing students' work on Hive, so that each student could review each other's work...
I don't know how to read the future, but I think these ideas may sound "crazy" now, but I would like to be surprised by that future.

These are all good ideas and hope to see them implemented one day on Hive. The future is looking good, we just need more Devs working on apps.

Thanks for stopping by.

Very beautiful thoughts here. I had suggested this for STEMSocial community then, it seemed it was outta their scope. Not giving up with this dream yet.

Well captured. I think you forgot the mention of tokens like CTP, LIST and COM that are positioned to shape up the ecommerce space of the internet. The opportunities we have here on Hive are quite limitless. There's always a space to build and add.

I didn't forget anything. I didn't want to name any token because as long as there's no project developed and ready to use similar to what my post is about, there's nothing to mention.
