Coming soon to a Hive near you: Power Up Day, February 2021

We are already approaching the end of the first month of the twenty first year of the twenty first century and the second Hive Power Up Day. It seems that for us - in South Africa, anyway - little has changed about life in the time of Covid. Personally, I've been busy and could get busier, but I'll save that news until the deal is sealed. In the meantime, and in case you don't know:

What is Power Up Day?

To refresh your memory and mostly @traciyork's own words -

On the first day of the month...
• ...we ask that everyone who can do so, power up any amount of HIVE they are holding on the first of the month.
• ... we ask accounts that are currently powering down to please pause the powerdown during the hours of the first of the month.
• ... we ask that those who are trading and/or selling Hive, not to do so during the hours of the first of the month (and if possible, cancel any type of sell order on any exchanges for the same hours).

To qualify for prizes

Your reputation must be above 39 and below 70.
Your total Hive Power (before the 1st) must be more than 100 and less than 8000.
You must power up at least 10 Hive on December 1st.
You must write a post about your power up on December 1st with the tag #HivePUD (International) or #HPUD (Spanish).

My continuing contribution to #HivePUD and #HPUD

I have, for the past few months, delegated Hive to little fish that participate and there will be another 300HP delegation this month. To be in the running, accounts must meet the following criteria -

1. be less than 6 months old
2. have a rep of less than 59
3. have less than 200 HP before powering up on 1 February 2021
4. must have at least two qualifying posts since 1 December 2020.
   Posts that qualify must have 200 words or more and exclude posts for Power Up Day, and Actifit.

As a reminder, the reason for adding the fourth criterion

Hive is a social blockchain: it's for socialising, ruminating and just generally hanging out. I do my best to connect with the people behind the accounts that will be getting one of my 100% upvotes (daily - if you post that often). And, if I'm around - I have 3D commitments (like sleep, work and being a people and doing kitchen stuff) that take me offline - a lot - a read and perhaps a comment and reblog.

It's not entirely my decision

As I always say, the accounts are chosen in consultation with @traciyork and again, if accounts don't meet the criteria, the equivalent or balance of the HP will either go to a curation guild or to accounts featured in @ocd's curation posts from time to time and which meet the criteria of rep, posts and HP.

Lastly

Occasionally I reflect on if, whether, or how, my own account is growing, and which I only began doing when inspired by @streetstyle when he started the power up initiative on that other chain. When I announced this month's winning delegations, I mentioned how my account had grown by 500HP in just six weeks. At the time, my mental arithmetic lead me to believe that using my current strategy, I would hit 5,000HP by September 2021. The last few weeks suggest that perhaps it'll be sooner.

However

It seems that the rainy days of the last year or so, and which have been the reason for keeping my HBD liquid, are clearing. In the medium term, this could, will, umm...might mean a few things, like this could be last month that I do that. I might even use some, this month to buy Hive power up if I'm short of the minimum 10HP that I need. It may also mean that I have to be AFK for patches, and when that happens I'll use strategies like those that @nickyhavey outlines here to get my HP to work for me and build my Hive investment.

Before closing

A note to @bold-n-italics, @divinebeingness and @happyfrog420 that if they note a depletion in their wallets, it's because I will be cancelling their delegations in the next few days. I do hope that that little injection was of some help.

Powering up on 1 February

Last month showed me that even if I knew I was going to be AFK, I could make a plan to still participate and post. So, you will most definitely see me on Monday!
