Break Your Hard Tasks

Not only do procrastinators spend longer time, distracting themselves doing the "wrong things" but they also delay starting the "right things". There is this known fact, that once you start something your brain remains alert until you finish it. Starting a task is often the hardest part of the task. If you can persuade yourself just to start something for just some few minutes, the brain's desire to see it through to it's completion. Reflect on the reason why you tend to procrastinate, and then check your habits and thoughts that may lead you to procrastinating your tasks and try to see if you can correct them. If you refuse to acknowledge that you procrastinate, it might be difficult to overcome it. You need to know why you do what you do, so that, you can then proceed to find solution to the problem. Part of the process to overcoming procrastination is to admit that you often procrastinate and also to establish why you do it. Do the most important things first and work your way down to the easier stuffs. When you focus on doing the hard and important tasks first, it will motivate you to want to do the small tasks when you are done with hard tasks.

Looking at a big tasks in terms of smaller pieces makes it less intimidating. Look for what's appealing about the task, you want to do. Schedule your day and make sure the big hard tasks takes your priority. Sometimes procrastination happens simply because a task is not scheduled. It is also wise to unstuck yourself if you want to get a hard task done. For example, if you feel stuck and tired or you have a low motivation, take a break. Don't be so hard on yourself about not completing a task at a go, if you can't get it done all at once, just reschedule. We often put too much pressure on ourselves to do certain tasks on schedule and it's becomes overwhelming for us, thus, making us less motivated to do the task. Do things on a "Need to do" basis and let go of the notion that you need to keep up with with your perfect schedule. One excellent way to tackle hard tasks is by breaking it down. We tend to procrastinate tasks that are vague and nebulous, because we don't have a clear instruction on what to do next. Take a few moment to think about how to break down a large task and schedule it into your calendar, in different parts. Overcome procrastinating by breaking down your hard tasks.
