DCity - I finally started playing it

avatar

At the end of a complicated 2020 (but hail bitcoin bull run and a few other great things in crypto land which kept our spirits up), I finally decided to start playing DCity, a few days ago.

Is it too late? Certainly much later than the majority of its current player base, but there is still room for real growth from this point.

There were several stages at which I could have begun building my city, but each time I decided against it.

First, the game was discord-only and had no interface, and I said to myself: Nah, I'll just wait for the interface.

Then @gerber created the interface as well, but I heard a few hundred HIVE was the optimum entry point. Because the game is not free to play, you have to buy cards, Splinterlands style. Then I thought: well, for someone who maybe is not a pro gamer (pun intended), a few hundred HIVE is a bit much.

What I didn't know then is that you actually can start with a very low amount (and some other H-E tokens can be used to buy cards from the market).

The optimum is different for different people. If you have funds and you want to grow fast initially, that can be achieved. But you can also wait for city income to build up a longer time, if you have a low initial investment. In the latter case, your city will grow slower and you need patience.

What I like about DCity from what I understood by playing it so far (and from others who were nice enough to share from their experiences), is that DCity is much more passive in nature than Splinterlands, for example. All while it can be quite profitable.

The fact that it is linked in an interesting way with several other communities and tokens on H-E also got my attention, because that creates a synergistic effect between them.

So far I love it. Every day I'm anxious to play DCity. Its evolutive nature captivated me already. Sure, once I build the base of my city, it's likely I won't play daily. Some I read only go in weekly to tweek their city stats a bit.

I hope you guys are doing well, these are probably the most awkward winter holidays I can remember.

See you healthy and successful in 2021!

I am actually poking around a bit .... I haven't started building yet but I did log in. First step done! LOL

Yes, the different tokens/communities involved is what finally got my attention. I admit, I was a bit resistant to playing it, not that it isn't a great game - just the time & money involved lol.

I get the basic concepts of it after watching a few tutorials, but the rest is making my head spin. So, I will probably be a very slow builder. lol (Besides, I have my hands full with SL & RS as well.)

But what do they say? Slow & steady wins the race ;) Good luck with your adventure. Keep us updated on how you do & what you learn. :)🧡

Good word... resistant. I guess that's what I was, lol.

Haven't tried RS although I keep hearing people about it. But who knows, maybe in another half a year or so... :D

Yup, better go slow and steady, than at full steam than forget about it. I see some dead accounts on dCity ahead of me.

Ha ha ha ha.... RS is a LOT of fun & the community is awesome as well. Very friendly people so that's also a plus. :)

That is the trick for me - slow & steady. I have a tendency to forget to play my games every day, esp. when they take a daily effort. I am in the middle of restructuring my daily routine (as well as syncing my 2 laptops) to allow me to remember this! LOL

Well, maybe after I settle to more reasonable daily gaming routines, I will give it a try.

I'm running an experiment with one of my alt-accounts, where I started from $10, and is totally doable. Yes, will grow slowly, but this is just perfect for some people. After 22 weeks, this experimental account doubled in value (in HIVE), which is much better than many similar games.

I'm not far from $10 as the initial investment in HIVE. I think it is around 120-130 HIVE so far, but I'll keep adding a little more during these initial stages. Thanks for letting me know about the growth rate! Are you in top 400 with your experimental alt?

No, no! Top 400 is very difficult to reach...the competition is strong there. With my main account I'm in the Top 300, but requires continuous invests to stay there

Welcome to the DCity universe! At the start it will eat some good time, if you plan to play it on a serious level, which I think you will do. There are a lot of strategies, impact the economy of the game and by a lot, I mean a lot.

If you have questions or need some tips, feel free to hit me up!

Thanks for offering to help. So far I have a question I only guess the answer to. I see higher ranked players prefer luxury homes instead of basic homes, for the +1 income obviously. But at the start, I found basic homes the best solution to increase population (cheaper and +1 to population). Probably as the city grows and the probability to attract new citizens increases, population won't be such a concern as at the beginning. Am I wrong about this? Should I stop buying basic homes if I need more population?

Basic homes costs 163 SIM and luxury ones 232.
Basic home recover the investment in 163 days, before taxes and luxury in 116 day, so they are definitely better. Population will invade you, so that you will focus on buying more and more cards that produce SIM and need population. :)

Ok, that makes sense. I was about to take this decision on my own, because I saw lack of population is less and less of a problem and it's only been a few days. Thanks for putting this from the investment recovery perspective!

Just do the math on everything. Also read the posts on what is coming up. Banks are a lot worth, as they will be used to combine with other cards and create a central bank for example.:)

Good to know. Thanks, I didn't read the updates from the official site, and there are big changes indeed.

I'm not a player, therefore I know very little about it. How much time are you spending daily with it?

First two days 4+ hours. Yesterday less than 2 hours. I expect today to be around the same or less. There will be some spikes, but otherwise I expect the daily time to get lower. At least that's what I believe.

Welcome to the dcity family! A lot of people of the ctp swarm have been joining lately :-)

Thanks! Great to hear about CTP Swarm members joining DCity. CTP teaches small consistent steps for long term, so this game may suite many people with that mentality.
