Engagement Is Rewarding & Should Be Rewarded! [Curating Comments!]

Change Is Inevitable

I am sure that you've either seen some of my previous posts or seen others talking about engagement and how important it is to make comments. The daily @leomarkettalk posts are awesome to boost our overall numbers and I have my own on-going "contest" as well for the sake of boosting engagement.

Earlier today I wrote "Stop Being Short-Sighted & Add Value Right Now!", which is another article about engagement and how important it is. It's basically a call-to-action, as I want more people to step up their game and focus on things that we actually can change and improve with ease. It takes seconds for most people to write a comment. I usually work for about 50-60 hours per week and I could still make almost 200 comments in a week, so I'm sure that everyone can make at least 10 comments per day, if they tried..

Like I said before, I truly believe that engagement is the first stepping stone towards growth and I believe that we can push Hive towards new heights with engagement alone.

I talked about this in a previous article:
"How To Push Hive To $10"

That being said, I am constantly thinking of ways to improve and grow. I think about ways of "giving back" to the community and I am eager to boost engagement. I want to bring back #initiative10, which was a super-successful initiative that a lot of people was satisfied with.

We had a bunch of users curating comments and large stakeholders spread hundreds of votes across the entire comment sections on a lot of content on Hive. Dozens of people earned more by making comments compared to publishing articles and it was "good vibes" everywhere.

We had a really good run and eventually things pretty much moved over to the @leomarkettalk posts to stimulate engagement. Those posts are getting the most comments day after day, so we're having a ton of success with them.. But, I want to move some of that engagement elsewhere.

So, I came up with my "contest" I mentioned previously, a small attempt to boost the overall engagement on my own posts for starters. (People have a chance of earning LEO for making comments.)

However, while I still will be doing this, I came up with something else I want to change. As we are trying to set a new standard and we're trying to show people that engagement actually matters..

  • Change is inevitable.

I have 3250 LEO and my 100% upvote is worth ~0.300 LEO. Unfortunately, I have literally crushed my voting power recently so I have to recharge it for a bit.. When I am sitting at 100% voting power again, I will do some changes though. I will start to curate comments instead of articles.

Well, I will curate articles too, but I will focus more on rewarding those who make comments. And that goes for comments all over the place and not only on my posts. Those who are putting in time and effort to boost engagement deserves to be rewarded for their efforts. Engagement is rewarding in many ways, but it should- and will be rewarded as well!

From today, I will recharge my voting power and prioritize comments over articles when I curate. That is my way of encouraging others to participate, step up their game and comment our way towards new heights.

I wish my votes where worth more so I could reward those who puts in time accordingly, but everything adds up eventually and the truth is that making a comment is often far easier than writing an entire article.

  • We're on a mission to set a new standard.

Well, you are right. Making comments is a lot more easier compared to spending hours trying to make an article. And like you said, engagement should be rewarded.
I halted my engagement for a while now cause of how busy I am with offline work but I never stop to drop by on hive and do the little I can when I have the time.
And leomarkettalk is a place I once tried to can't around too but as always, offline duties are greater than I keep up here but I will see to it and try to balance out things.
It's nice of you to want to reward comments and help boost engagements.
Way to go! ;)

I truly believe that engagement is what will take us to new heights, especially for a place that is called "social". You need to socialize.. Simple as that. :)

It takes seconds for most people to write a comment.

Yet the most of the people write posts, and they say that they do not have time to write comments, and I ask if they have time to write posts, then why do not they have time to write comments?

The answer is simple, but disappointing. They are so selfish and greedy that they focus only on their own posts, and they do not (or very rarely) write comments under other people's posts.

They post, and wait for the rewards, without caring about other people's posts. This leads to a lot of ignored posts and disappointed users.

I usually work for about 50-60 hours per week and I could still make almost 200 comments in a week, so I'm sure that everyone can make at least 10 comments per day, if they tried..

They do not even need to try, because this should come naturally on a so called social network.

Like it or not, but the fact is that this platform is doomed by its own users. The most of the people will find an excuse to not to write comments.

I write comments. Relatively proper English comments.
And I am not even a native English.
Actually, I am very far from it. I do not even speak any Indo-European languages, so English is hard for me, just as Hungarian is hard for an English person. But I still write English comments (as well as Hungarian comments).

If I can do this, then anyone can do this. Especially native and fluent English speakers.

What I hate the most is authors who ignores their own audience. That's terrible. I can understand that you don't reply to all the comments, but if you ignore all of them, you're just a bad person in my book and I don't endorse that type of behaviour at all. I would never reward such a user.

But yeah, you are right. People focus on making articles instead of comments. My best guess is that it's due to the actual rewards. It's easier to be rewarded for articles than comments. It has been like that for a long, long time as well. LeoFinance was literally the first to change the game in that sense with the 50/50 split.

I hope things will change with the next HF.

Comments are definitely easier to leave compared to making posts. After all people should generally have something to say about a small part of the article. It doesn't have to be anything but their thoughts. I do hope to see more comments around.

I can totally understand that you don't comment on everything you read, or all the videos you watch. I don't do that either, but it shouldn't be too difficult to leave at least a handful of comments per day.

Rewarding good comments is very important. I think a lot of new users start by commenting on posts before writing articles and it could be healthy for the community to reward good comments.

Exactly.. Which is why it's crucial to actually respond to your audience as well. I hate content creators who entirely seems to be ignoring their audiences. It's messed up.

True. Very important to respond to each comment on your post, make them feel welcomed :)

Exactly! You need to treat your audience with respect. They spend time on your content making comments, so the least you can do is to reply.

It's a nice initiative, and with the awesome reward, there'll be a positive outcome in engaging with comment. From record, I notice I make 15-20 comments a day provided I'm less busy, I hope to put in more effort to that.

I really think giving incentives for engagement could lead the way. other platforms are encouraging it, except those less successful. see a pattern? ;)

I can totally see a pattern, and it's very logical as well. A social platform has to be social.
