Popular & Trending Pages Maximize Our Exposure!

I suppose that most people out there have seen the trending pages, popular posts or the curator's picks on LeoFinance.io for instance. These things has always been up for debate, ever since this place came alive. It has often been people talking about Hive not being fair and that the same authors are sitting on trending day in and day out. A lot of people have also been vocal about circle jerking and that there are a group of people voting for each other and ignoring the rest of the people out there.

We've heard people complaining about the rewards for several years in one way or another, and the truth is that I have been talking about these things more than once as well.

However, instead of hearing these endless complaints I figured I would try to talk about the actual importance of the popular posts, trending pages or the curator's picks. I want to highlight the positive impact these things have and what the benefits actually are with these things if they are used properly.

As I have talked about engagement lately and how that eventually could take us all the way up to $5 Hive, I want to talk about this because it goes well in hand with a users brand building and exposure.

I won't cover all the different interfaces, I will just focus on LeoFinance.io which is the one I use on a daily basis. Other interfaces has the same or similar things as well and I am sure you all know about the "trending pages" on Hive.blog for instance. There's no reason for me to show you any of that..

That being said though, you can easily see that there are five different spots for posts that are being picked by curators on LeoFinance. Those 5 articles will be at the top of the website which makes them "stand out from the rest" and it will maximize the visibility for the content.

The popular posts below are the ones with the highest rewards or articles that have been promoted.

You pay to promote your articles.

However, having your content visible and "directly in front" of content consumers makes things a lot easier for content creators and it's very likely that you will benefit tremendously if you are lucky enough to be picked by the LeoFinance curators.

The outcome doesn't only affect the potential rewards you get, you are also likely to see reblogs on your content, more comments and more followers as well. With each follower you have, you automatically increase your chances of being rewarded more in the future.

I won't go into any details about engagement this time as I've already done that in my previous post, but engagement is crucial for success. Both on an individual level but also on a bigger scale, like this community seeing new heights in the future.

A simple thing like a comment is likely to push us towards new heights as long as there is a combined effort, but perhaps more importantly for the content creators being here right now, they are crucial for your own success. You get new friends, get recognition, boost your presence and grow your audience while you're building your own brand, and that is definitely a super important thing for the users.

  • That's how winning is done.

Visibility & Exposure

I don't like to highlight certain users, especially not whales because I think it looks greedy and desperate to try to lure these people in, and it's just a lame attempt of getting upvotes. I obviously don't mind being rewarded, from the smallest fish or cub to the biggest whale or toruk of them all, but I wouldn't ask them for upvotes and I don't mass-tag people in an attempt of getting exposure. It's a stupid move and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone.

  • It's actually likely that it will have the opposite effect.

That being said, if you look at the screenshot above. That is from my latest article. onealfa.leo, the largest LEO holder decided to vote for my article. A bunch of people had already voted for it and I am obviously grateful for the support.. However, "toruk" came to the party after 9 hours. Due to his stake and the voting power he spent when he gave me an upvote, my article was pushed to the top of the popular posts on LeoFinance. This obviously increased the pending rewards for that article, as that single vote is worth ~60 LEO, but it also caused more "buzz" and "hype", which made more people joining in on the fun.

I got some new followers and a bunch of comments where being made so I suddenly had more engagement on my content as well. That's a win-win-win for me. I grow my stake, my audience and I am boosting the overall engagement on LeoFinance which is my long haul goal..

  • All with one single post, much due to one single upvote.

That is not all there is to it though, the curator's picks on LeoFinance is often articles from different users about various things. Some are talking about BTC and others about CUB. Some are talking about Hive and others about credit cards. The bonus for anyone who is being picked is amazing and could also potentially be the start of something life-changing for a content creator due to the motivation and encouragement they get.

As long as new people are being found and not the same authors are sitting on top of the "trending pages", there's a lot of benefits with those pages. It gives content consumers and curators a superb chance to discover new users they can curate as well, so it's not just a bonus for a creator.

  • Everyone can- and will benefit by these pages as long as we have variety.

Variety is good, but if people are regulary putting out useful, well-researched content, I have no problem seeing them rewarded over time. What this does to me when I have enough free time to do a deep dive on a subject, is it makes me want to improve my own content as well.

I had one post that made it "above the fold" on Leofinance, and lemme tell ya. it was an absolute shock. I had to do a triple-take just to be sure I wasn't seeing things. What a thrill! So to me that's something to aspire to maybe when I have the resources to invest in one of my mega-posts, to be considered for something like that. My classes take up a good chunk of the day, which results in much shorter articles than I'd normally put out.

I'm glad that there are curators out there taking the time to sift through the articles and highlight the very best of LeoFinance. :)

What a thrill!

It sure is, and it's often very beneficial as well. In terms of motivation, encouragement, pending rewards, future rewards, growth etc. A lot of things can come out of just one single post.

  • It's just a matter of time, as long as you put in that little extra.

Enough upvotes on comments can have a similar effect.

Keep at it, you will get there on a more consistent basis. You activity is really good in my opinion and you are showing yourself dedicated to this platform.

Enough upvotes on comments can have a similar effect.

It's also most often easier to write a meaningful comment than an entire article, so a handful of comments can literally be more rewarding than an article for people who haven't been able to establish themselves yet.

All valid points.

I will tell you what whales look for: people who are dedicated and intent on helping move the platform forward.

If one is simply here to milk rewards, that doesnt go over well.

This of course is different from those who get rewarded and need the money. Those who get involved and then cash out to pay for food, I love that. It is what we are here for.

As you mentioned, engagement is the key. There is a good chance I will not see someone unless he or she is very active. Just too much going by.

Thank you very much for sharing that. I just read a comment from onealfa.leo where he talks about things he does not endorse and it goes well in hand with the things you've said.

There is a good chance I will not see someone unless he or she is very active. Just too much going by.

For various reasons like time zone difference, dozens of article being published etc, it's easy to miss out on content. Especially if you haven't been able to somewhat establish yourself yet or if you haven't built an audience.

A superb way to get more exposure is by making comments. I bet that 10 comments would be more beneficial for most newcomers compared to 1 fully-blown, in-depth article.. That's why a nice mix between the two are optimal.

I may need to start doing promoted here. I don't think it's much but I hate letting go of any of my LEO lol

I think it can be fairly lucrative to promote your posts, but it's a "hit and miss" thing without guarantees though.

I don't really check the trending page much unless I got some extra VP and time. The curators on LEO do a great job of finding quality content.

The whale votes are also amazing and I think everyone appreciates them. I think I have gotten a few but I also need to create more posts. I should be using all the comments I make to create some posts so we can have a bit more variety.

A nice mix between both articles and comments are what I'm striving for, even though I haven't been able to reach satisfying numbers I can hold on too yet.

Good explanation on how to get noticed and how to grind in order to build an audience for future rewards !

When Toruk comes by and upvote, I must admit it feels great haha 😂.

I hope you get a lot more upvotes from our favorite dragon 🐉

It's an awesome feeling to get that instant super-boost in terms of rewards, but I actually like the exposure and recognition you get even more. That means a lot to me as I am eager to increase my presence and build an audience.
