Gothic Styled Stacking: Theme Collecting Intaglio Mint’s Vintage Horror Series

image.png Pimage.png
“Black birds tend to like Shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven

It’s a tragic story.
Click here for the appropriate music while I get my hanky.

The trouble with Theme (Stacking) Collecting on my Quarterly Dollar Cost Averaging plan is that I could miss a silver round or two in trying to complete series. Right off the start and to my HORROR that nightmare had it come to pass.

With the character of the Canadian Silver bullion market and the so few Gothic Stackers like myself, I expected this Intaglio Mint bullion product line to be a slow mover and may just go down in price, especially in the Horror genre.

The Silver Round

2020 Dracula 2 Troy oz. Vintage Horror Series
image.png
Obverse; Count Dracula, Lettering; DRACULA
Diameter 39mm, Thickness 6mm
Mintage: not yet published

Representing the central character of Bram Stoker’s 1897 horror Novel Count Dracula. Book than spawned a following in Victorian England for the taste for the supernatural and began the genre of Horror writing.

“How good and thoughtful he is; the world seems full of good men--even if there are monsters in it.” ~ Count Dracula quotes.

Mind you that I am happy that this Canadian E-tailer who have been, albeit gradual, they had expanded a better bullion product line as long as I can remember making my first purchase from. But since the WallStreetbets effect over the last few weeks this Coin E-tailer suffered the same fate as their American counterparts.

Goodbye Frankie, Wolfman, and Swamp Creature, my post physical silver run assessment saw these iconic Horror monsters slip from my clutches when I decided to await on the next planned purchase list. With the $24 CAD high premium I felt the false sense of security knowing that they would be there on my next purchase window.

The Next Round

2020 Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde 2 Troy oz. Vintage Horror Series Type 1
image.png
Obverse; Dr. Henry Jekyll & Mr. Edward Hyde, Lettering; DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE
Diameter 39mm, Thickness 6mm
Mintage: not yet published

The original central Character from Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 Gothic novel “The Strange case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” follows the dual nature of a London Legal practitioner with two personalities.

Type One of this round featured Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on separate rounds

The Series is as follows;

  • Dracula ✔
  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (type 1) ✔
  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (type 2) Sold out
  • Frankenstein
  • The Mummy
  • Swamp Creature

“Oh, the terrible struggle that I have had against sleep so often of late; the pain of the sleeplessness, or the pain of the fear of sleep, and with such unknown horror as it has for me! How blessed are some people, whose lives have no fears, no dreads; to whom sleep is a blessing that comes nightly, and brings nothing but sweet dreams.” ~ Count Dracula quotes

2020 Intaglio Mint 2 Troy oz. 999 FS Vintage Horror Series
image.png
Reverse; Intaglio Mint Logo in radial spiral
Upper Legend; TWO TROY OUNCES
MMXX (2020)
Lower Legend; .999 FINE ESILVER
Edge; Reeded

Intaglio also made these in 1 oz rounds, my retailer only had available the 2 troy oz rounds at the time. I wanted the 2 oz, size regardless as these often made in a better quality of relief than that of the 1 oz.

The Retailer is not planning to restock this series. So, in hindsight I could have extended my purchase and a bit more flexible with my Emergency Reserve funds. I am going to have a tougher time filling out this series.

Bonus Silver Skull

Beaver Bullion 1 Troy oz. 999 FS Celtic Skull
image.png
Front, Celtic Style Skull
Length 29mm, Width 22mm, Depth 8mm

Beaver Bullion (BB) is a brand by John Masterson, a Canadian Silver Artist known also for his Masterson Pirate bullion bars line. Nice to know he is still pouring since I discovered his product line almost five years ago.

Beaver Bullion 1 Troy oz. 999 FS Celtic Skull

Back; “BB” for Beaver Bullion
Lettering; TROY OZ .999 FINE SILVER
Mintage: unknown

The one Troy oz. Skull makes it five Troy Ounces.

There is more to this recent order coming later a blog.

Despite my error in not being able to complete this set in the near future, I am content to have my favorite and most important round of the Gothic icon Dracula and ‘Count’ myself fortunate. To a Goth, any day can be Halloween!

I hope you enjoyed this spooky feature of silver

Thank you for dropping in for a look!

If there where only one coin I had to get in the series is just the Dracula Round. I ordered this with a variety of other silver. The Celtic Skull was ideal to add to the Skull collection and enough to meet order the Minimum for free shipping. Frankenstein and The Wolfman are next on the list if my retailer manages to restock.

Dracula just looks awesome. Great relief, well stamped. I could easily tell it being the original actor Bela Lugosi who starred in the first movie role.

Always Sis, with eternal undying love 🤗 🌺 💖

Intaglio does a great job at their rendering of these vintage icons of horror. I've seen a lot of crazy and corny versions of Dracula over my years.

Intaglio is also known for small production runs so I hope I could still bag at least Frankenstein on the next go round. It's not like a popular genre except to me.

Thanks for the delightful comment Sis @saffisara

Awesome Intaglio Mint rounds, glad I didn’t start that series. Intaglio Mint rounds are hard to get now that they don’t sell direct. Nice skull too, don’t have a Beaver Bullion piece yet.

From the “Tag Master” I bow🥷🏻

At least I got to extend my Skull collection. I am just happy to get at least the Dracula Round if no other. I now a few Intaglio and quite impressed with the quality of their product.

I think I will get a capsule for Dracula.

Thanks for dropping in, and the reblog @silverd510

Since you like "Gothic" connect Dracula to QEII. Hint: the connection runs through the village of Owen unter Teck and the issue with the horses came to be one of @handofzara ' s reasons for the love of America!

Happy hunting!

You've got me curious like a Cat with time on her hands but I don't really have a lot of time until I retire or hit it big on a Crypto bonanza. Thanks for pointing out this Rabbit hole.
There's no doubt about all the 'incestuous relationships' between all of the European Royalty and Aristocracy through the centuries I will likely yield some connections there are more things afoot that meets the eye. Village of Owen... huh?

Thank you for commenting @handofzara

I'm betting Prince Charles is not really a soft spoken compassionate Prince as touted by the Royal Press. But another royal egomaniac with an insatiable taste for power.
Diana discovered his true self and was eliminated from the Club.
My opinion of course.
Bela Lugosi over the Bloody Royals any day. 😉

@kerrislravenhill I hope you are able to find the remaining silver rounds to complete this set. The way @silverd510 was talking today on discord everything is sky high in premiums🙄

I go back to that Retailer and see that he had only restocked in other Silver with higher nosebleed sticker prices. The Silver in my blog were purchased a week before this Wallstreetbets effect took place and before my retailer saw most of his inventory bought up by frantic customers. Even the high premieum Intaglio rounds.
Happy to have my immortalized Bela Lugosi Dracula in my hands, if I were allowed one only it would be this Horror Icon.

Thank you for the encouraging comment @silvertop

The Count Dracula round is very, very nice! I like the candlestick especially! If you wait and are patient, I am sure you will eventually get the collection. Somewhere, someone will want to 'dump' that silver round, not knowing what they have. We've all seen when a relative who knows not what they have, that has been given or inherited, have sold it, or at times, if a real coin, used it as money and it ended up in a change drawer at the store!

Thanks for sharing your treasure sis! Take care!💜

Took me over a year of finding a Silver coin in a Coinstar. Chances are low but not impossible. I wonder if the buyers of those Intaglio rounds even know what he or she was buying? Should the prices go back down would these buyers would suddenly panic and sell just they are panicked to buy. We won't know if they are strong hands or not. And Intaglio products tend to have small a mintage.
But, I am grateful for what I do have, the Bela Lugosi's version of Dracula.

Thanks for your encouragement Sister @elizabethbit

11000? I guess I am more social than I think because I usually kept to myself. Sort of anti-social personally. I guess HIVE really does encourage us to socialize more than we think we do.

Thanks for the support!

Back in the 1960s, "Monster Movies" were the rave. Most kids loved them. Thanks for sharing the memory, @kerrislravenhill. Tickets were a Quarter Dollar (USD), Silver of course.

60s, that's well before my time. One reason I find YouTube a treasure trove of old movies of every genre. For some odd reason I really enjoy those Japanese monster movies featuring one central monster named GODZILLA. Hilarious with the trope styled Englrish translation subtitles that are entertaining in themselves.

American productions have their own shtick and charm as well with a fun crop of Monster flik features.
"Giant Radiated creatures resulting from Nuclear testing, interrupts a high school date!."

My dad and Mom must have love those 60s years.
Going to my local Theater complex costs me $18.

Thanks for dropping in @cve3
