Dcity Helper #003: How to lose 10,974 HIVE per year in Dcity

avatar

Welcome to the 3rd edition of Dcity Helper.

For some time now, i have been helping Dcity newcomers with free cards. I started doing this in collaboration with former Dcity president @ecoinstant and continued doing so when @thegoliath took over the presidency.

At the same time i have been helping @jrcornel with advice on how to build a Dcity Powercity and i have enjoyed watching him climb the ranks (currently 9th) ever since.

As i am (a little less since yesterday) comfortably ranking 1st, i decided that helping other players would be a good way to give back a little to the game and i have turned my ad-hoc giveaways and advice into this more structured form: Dcity Helper.

In this series I will be making regular posts, where i look at cities of newcomers and smaller players and give them a little nudge in the right direction, This means i will give them some free cards, which best benefits their cities, as well as some unsollicited advice on how to best, imho, build and develop their city.

In today's post i am taking a look at @sockpuppet. This player does not seem to be very active and although he is in the top 40, his city hardly makes any SIM. Dcity is all about balance and Sockpuppet's city is probably the most unbalanced city around.

This is a screenshot of his city in it's current state.

image.png

It is plain to see why his SIM income is so low. His unemployment is so high that the daily social costs of more than 7000 SIM almost completely eat away his income.

Dcity has the option to de-activate buildings, so let's see what happens when we clean up this city.

He has 90 garbage dumps. Without advanced recycling they produce no income, so let's deactivate all of them.

He has 320 parks. Parks produce no income, so again we are going to deactivate all of them.

Also, Sockpuppet has more education than he needs. Education is capped at 25%, so all eduction above 1000 is useless. We will de-activate 39 of his universities and bring the number back to just above 1000.

Now his city looks like this:

image.png

SIM income has increased from 1226 to to 5953, an increase of 4727 SIM per day.
This amounts to 1,725,355 SIM per year, which is 8,281 Hive at the current rate.

But he is missing out on even more. If we sell the now de-activated buildings on the market we get 810 hive from the garbage dumps. 352 hive from the parks and 156 from the universities, for a total of 1318 hive.

Lets use this to buy shopping malls, which gives us 146 malls at today's prices.
Each mall gives 15 SIM daily, which after 30% taxes brings 1537 SIM each day. This amounts to 561,248 SIM per year, which is another 2693 hive he is missing out on.

The total amount lost per year on sockpuppet's city is 10,974 hive or $1,646 US.
There are a lot of families in the world who have less than that to live off.

Normally i give cards to the city featured in these posts, but it seems they would be wasted here. So instead i will give away 25 hive worth of cards to the commenters on this post.

Comment “better give it to me” on this post and i will check your city to see which card suits your city best. First come, first served.

I'd like to give a big thank you to @onealfa , @jrcornel , @rollandthomas , @bdvoter and everybody else who voted on these Dcity Helper posts. Thanks to you i am able to give away many more cards to Dcity players.

Wow, that is a huge change!
I am wondering what I could do to optimize my city? Of course I would be also happy with any spare card you have :)

Yes, you are on the short list for one of the upcoming posts. This city was too much of an example on how not to play Dcity to pass. ;-)

better give it to me 🤣

This is a great little guide, it was the title that hooked me and pulled me in. This is a big ol' change in optimization, and shows that there is quite a bit of strategy to this game!

Haha, you could use a card or two again. I just had to widen the gap again a bit after your most impressive rally.

But you are right, optimization is key and without a decent strategy players are bound to miss out. I don't think there are many players missing out as much as Sockpupppet does though.

Also smaller cities are profitable and benefit from optimization. You don't need to be a top 10 player to enjoy the game and get a good ROI.

I threw my garbage dump on the market to increase the popularity of my city. I am now waiting for many immigrants to become my workers. I think this is the best I can do for now.

Also better give it to me.

Yes, I know that, but I have 6 percent chance to bring some new citizens to my city. It's not a lot, but I could train enough workers and this way I will not really need to buy more cards for now if I am correct.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your basic homes, they were quite helpful!
It increased my SIM income by 20!

I wouldn't wait for new citizens to arrive. You have to consider buying cards as an investment and Dcity gives a great ROI.

For example those 2 basic homes i sent you cost me 2.2 hive.
But they bring you an additional income of 20 SIM per day, 7300 SIM per year or 35 hive.
Thats 1600% apr. ;-) Ofcourse this is an extreme example, since your income buildings needed those workers, but you should be able to get 80%-100% apr on your Dcity investment in general.

I see a lot of these unbalanced cities which are probably aiming to increase their rank and nothing else with increased population, not realizing that the SIM income has so much potential in a more balanced city. That's why I only try to increase population when needed. Slow and steady.

Thanks for the informative post. Oh, and "better give it to me". 🙃

Yeah, but this one is not doing it for the rank i think. And when he does, he should bring out a calculator.

One of the cards in yours.

I think it might have been a strategy to try to built as big as possible, in order to get the most out of the Dcity reward pool, as it (the proposed changes) would drop him about 60 spots and 8 Hive a day. Not to speak of a Dcity that 1/4th the size of his current city.

But 4727 SIM a day is much much more than 8 Hive a day. So, it would be an easy choice for me.

The city will grow again with the new cards he could buy from selling off the dumps, parks and uni's.
But you are right: This is a no brainer.

Wow this is really interesting.
I checked and I could also pump my numbers up fro 1650 to 1700 SIM a day :)

Thanks for the tips <3

Yes, if you check your city map, you see a red number. This is the amount of workers needed for all your buildings. On the right you can see which building is not producing.

I suggest getting some basic homes on the market, while they are still cheap.

hey @tomlee

just go to dcity.io and log in with hive keychain.
Best way to start is buying some random cards (i recommend from the 1st edition) and then buy additional cards on the market. Dcity is both a game and an investment, so you'd gain fun as well as a really good ROI on your investment.

If you want some help getting started, you can give me a shoutout in the Dcity discord.

Wow. I see you are very "good " In dcity. I am on 91 ranking, I want to be like 30-50 on ranking. Now I will buy some building or social office to decrease unemployed. Wish me good luck and good luck you too :)

Hey @emsonic, instead of buying a SAO, i would put your AI technology card on the market. Your factories require only half the workers now and that other half is sitting at home now, eating away your SIM income. You can list it on the market at a very high price if you don't want to sell it, but at this moment that card does more harm than good.

so I will try to maximize my sim intake.

First off i would do something with your massive education overkill.
Anything above 1000 has no point, so you would be better off making some sister cities with 1000 education each.

Give me a shoutout in discord and i'll be happy to go through things with you.

Look like a forgotten ghost city.

My Dcity is "r1s2g3" and I am in notion that I keep my Dcity optimized. Though I do not visit my Dcity daily as such but I re invest my SIM to my Dcity from time to time.

It will be good to know what the experts think about it.

Your setup is pretty decent, although your city is quite small, so you don't need to balance as much yet.
I see you like tinkering, why not tinker a bit on your city?

Greetings, the truth is I don't know much about the game, however, I would like to enter it, seeing your explanation of how to manage the resources of a city, I would be very interested in entering it. On the other hand being an educational project, investment and healing, we would like to learn, much more than that and also create educational content for the whole community.

better give it to me...

could you take a look at my city, I have been trying to balance my city it but my SIM income keeps quite being quite low.
What I do like so far is that I am at max 25% education and 121% training chance (keep whittling down that negative reputation one immigrant at a time)

SO my questions:

  • keep trying to balance unemployment?
  • Focus on housing from 1st version or take 2nd edition for the rep boost?

thanks for any advice you can pass along

Hey @felander,

your city is pretty balanced, although SIM is on the low side a bit indeed.
I would add GMO farming to max the SIM on your farms.

Regarding your questions: Yes, balancing unemployment is always important, but you are doing pretty good.
And i would focus on 1st edition, but more for the fact there are more income buildings in that edition and the prices for 1st edition cards will likely go up when the 3rd edition drops.
@felander The cards for this post have already been given away, but there are many more giveaways to come.

Really cool post! And it's awesome how you're giving feedback to everybody in the comments. I've been trying to grow my city slowly and try to keep it balanced to see if the ROI maintains. I haven't developed a strategy yet, other than keeping track of my indicators.

I know I should probably improve education at this point.

Have a look at Recording-Box City if you have a chance. I'd appreciate your feedback :)
