Gasoline demand has been increasing in the US during 2021. This is an indicator of more economic activity and of the recovery of the economy from the 2020 lockdowns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to this article, week by week the gasoline demand has been increasing.

The COVID-19 Delta variant, which originated in India, has been spreading fast in the US, to become the most prevalent variant. It is more contagious than the original SARS-CoV2 and all the other variants. It also seems to be more virulent and less likely to be controlled by vaccination.

For those reasons, it is logical to think that the US government, at the federal, state and local levels will implement measures which end up limiting mobility. Gasoline is essential for mobility

I think that the current US government would probably declare measures that slow down gasoline demand. However, At the state and local levels, other mindsets may be able to keep the demand increasing.
