Creating solutions instead of problems.

One thing which always bothers me is when people create problems for no particular reason.

It is a strange phenomenon that you will often see in the business world as people at the top of the chain try to prove their usefulness by innovating these smart sounding solutions to problems that never existed previously.

We have a serious amount of these issues at work as the top tier are constantly working on new projects that have no value in real life. They might sound impressive in the board room but they don’t work that way at ground level.

A lot of the time, the people who are creating these impressive sounding initiatives have never even worked on the ground level and don’t know how the business operates day to day. They can often create problems by implementing these new ideas rather than looking at the problems which already exists and try to work on removing them from the equation.

This can be applied across all faucets of building something as I’m sure that we have all been frustrated by the people above us not knowing what is really happening with the people that they are meant to be working with.

They rarely take the time to actually talk with the people that they are supposedly helping and finding out where the real issues lie. It is a huge fault in large corporations that they don’t communicate with the people that have the most knowledge, which are the front line workers. The people dealing with the customer base and the people using the equipment that is provided.

If you are building anything such as a product or a business. One of the first steps is to ask, what do people want? What do they need? How will this help?

This is the basis of a successful business as you are meeting an existing need. You are creating something that people want. You are filling a space that already exists.

This is a lesson that seems to get lost somewhere along the way as a business expands and adds layers of people. The more layers that you add, the less purpose that they have and connection with that original goal. Somewhere along the line it becomes, How can I stand out? Or how can I move up the ranks.

It no longer becomes about the customers and becomes about the leaders and people looking for part of that success.

To get to this point, a business first has to create solutions to existing problems and that would be my starting point for any future development. If we are here wondering what to do next. Just look at the problems and find those solutions. Over time that will encourage more people to use your business and lead to more growth.

As you said business should be people centric and try to solve the problem that user are facing.
These users could be external user like some customer coming to a shop to buy something or they could be internal user like someone working in the shop.
These are the primary actors who know the actual need and problem and they are the one who should be consulted first to find the problems and possible solutions as the y really know the practicality of these solutions.

Exactly. The best people to find the solutions are the ones who encounter the problems. That is why so many companies spend million on market research and trying to find out what people need and want.

Solutions are always the key thing. What is the biggest issue and how can we fix it. Then on to the next one.
