A goldmine in the ocean!

I saw this lady at work dressed in electronic paraphernalia on the rocks, scanning and digging in the areas that are normally covered in big waves.

Now I am not sure if this is the correct place to post a coin post, but I reckon that this has to do with finances 🙂

Something different here from our side, as I am going to show you a wonderful "find" that I had today.
It was Spring tide and the sea drew back the furtherest at low tide than we have ever seen it in our 2 years here.
But something very interesting occured here!
Come and take a look!

133 2.JPG

So, being an inquisitve soul, I approached the lady and we had a great chat. She collects coins as a hobby and she showed me what she found while I was watching her digging in a pool at the rocks.

134 2.JPG

This is a 1938 King George Half Penny!
Worth $39 (see below)

This is the coin that she showed me. A British, 1938 Half Penny.

161_LI.jpg

Makes one to wonder what is laying in the rockbeds under the deep water of all of these ocean pools?

What the lady was telling me is that a couple of years ago, a severe storm washed all of the sand off the beaches here, exposing the rocky layers underneath the sand.
She said that all that she had to do was to walk around to pick up coins. No scanner needed.
Old silver Pounds dating back to the 17 and 18 hundreds.
She also picked up other coins such as old Pennies, 6 pences and tickey's.

I saw at the source link of the coins that I posted above that this particular penny is worth $39

So, what are you waiting for?
Get yourself a scanner and head out there to find your fortune 🤣

And That's All Folks!

hello dear friend @papilloncharity good night
What an incredible find, this is a type of search that has been growing over the years, more and more people are looking for this type of thing; I have read many stories of real people who have found real fortunes looking to collect coins.
I appreciate that you gave us this finding and all the information
have a wonderful night

Greetings to you @jlufer
You are correct as some big treasures have been unearthed in this manner.
There is a story about the "Kruger millions" a cache of solid gold Kruger coins that was hidden here somewhere during the British occupation and people have been searching across the country for years.

I believe that if it exists, it will be found by using the same method as described here. The person that finds it will be an instant millionaire.

Thank you for popping in and for the kind wishes.

Hope that you will have a good day!

hello dear friend @papilloncharity
Yes, what a great story.

Here in my province of Corrientes-Argentina, something similar happens.
My province participated in several wars, one of them was against Paraguay, the inhabitants of my city for fear of looting the Paraguayan soldiers, buried their silver and gold goods, those people who died their treasures have been buried, until the day of Today there are treasure hunters following these clues.

A pleasure to visit you. Have a great day

Hello Sir @jlufer
Thank you for the kind visit.

You also have a great and sad story here.
Of course it is very interesting and I want to know if evidence can be shown that the treasure hunters have indeed found any treasures?
Just an idea, as if so, then I will suggest that you should maybe also do a post about the story?

I will Google "Corrientes-Argentina" to see what your country looks like.

Hope that you will have a great weekend my friend!

Thank you Sir @jlufer.
I know about the articles, but just thought that your war story was very interesting. I have never looked into it, but I will most certainly get more information on it.
Blessings and hope that you had a good Saturday!

Anything that is easy to find is never appreciated my friend.
Patience is always a good quality and I see it as a very relaxing endeavor to search for coins. Specifically in beautiful surroundings.
Thank you for the visit!

Nice hobby to take up in later years, Cape of Storms water must have treasures flushed out after massive waves, healthy fun way of enjoying a morning on the rocks.

Have a wonderful weekend Stephen, still busy trying to source a future setup after Telkom cut our telephone/ADSL wires, trying to push everyone to LTE... Well now I will support any other company, never again will I use Telkom!

Thank you and I love the rocks Lady Joan.
Got a camera full of Star fish this morning.
Problem is one can only get them at low tide in the pools at the far deep end. It's quite a mission for me with this wonky left leg, forced to balance on the knife edges of the rock layers. Cramp after cramp hahaha.

We have been on LTE for the past 10 years, Cell C is the cheapest and they rove on the MTN towers in a partnership.
But we have refused a contract as they charge 599:00 per month over 24 months.
This is for the 200 Gig package. That lasts us on average for 7 to 8 months.

We pay 1999:00 on prepaid for the same 200 Gig package and also bought the small mobile connecting modem that fits into my pocket, so we have connection with 2 PC's here at home and when we go out we can connect with the modem anywhere.

Hope that you guys will also have a great weekend my friend.

Ps. If you don't use as much data tan we do, the smaller pre-paid packages are even cheaper.

We chomp our way through quite a dizzy amount of data with my son's small home business. Thanks for advice will take a look into since we are in a 'dead spot' needs boosting and data, looking at a few options at the moment will take a week or two since we may need to order another router for this type of connection.

Those Star Fish sound delightful, definitely worth a little discomfort to get out there to photograph. Look forward to seeing when you put them up!

Marian marks and communicates with +300 degree students on most days and I work on the PC for abot 3 to 4 hours every day. Maybe you guys should quantify your data usage, so that you can get a better isea about your needs. But knowing you, I think that you have done this already.
Our router like I said is small, but it does a perfect job. Hope that you guys find the best solution for your needs.

I have already posted the starfish my friend. Hope that you will like it!
Blessings!

We have higher usage, definitely need uncapped line for requirements with my sons small home business plus normal days I am online, yes shopping around means new routers and changes.

Enjoyed the starfish very beautiful creatures of the sea. Have a wonderful week, let us hope some positive news comes through soon for industry around the country.

I saw that they were laying fibre cables in the roads and here in our complex Lady Joan.
We presume that the next step will be to entice the residents to sign on, but we have no such plans.
I am sure that you guys will find something suitable to your needs.

The starfish were a great find, but I don't have much confidence in the revival of industry my friend.
We were on a downward slope before the covid, but one never knows and we do indeed need some miracles.

All of our love to you guys!

Uuu what a lovely hobby! I would enjoy this for the thrill of seeking hidden treasures. For the excitement. Nice!

Thank you my friend.
I am seriously thinking about getting kitted out for it, but have to chat to that lady first at the next low tide in order to pick upn the finer details of the correct equipment.

That's how I always operate, as a salesman will sell one high end expensive stuff that is at times totally unneccesarry, as they can see that one is inexperienced. I prefer to get the information from a person that is actually using it.

They call our place here "The Cape of Storms" in South Africa and many ships have sunk here over time. There must be hundreds of coins in the deep waters waiting to be flushed out.

Hope that you will have a great weekend!

Oh my sounds like so much fun! Do you have to have a permit, to allow you to legally search for coins? If you discover a national treasure, what would happen?

I had a thought about grabbing one of this myself and search for treasures as a hobby hahahha. But here you need legal approvement and it's a bit more complicated. Some share of the profit would be given to the state, if you want to be fair and correct.

I think this has a potential to turn into a great hobby. Spending time in nature as you like it and also searching for artifacts of history in the making. Kinda fun!

I look forward to see if you will pursue this and maybe witness myself your very first find!

Thank you, have an awesome day!

Thank you Mary.

The good thing is that one doen't need a permit on the beaches. Only inland, for reasons unknown at this stage.
All of the mineral rights and treasures belongs to the government and a 50/50 split is normal with the finders.

It is the searching for historical artefacts that grabbed my attention and slowly but surely I will start to get geared up to practice this hobby.
As you say, I am out most of the time and might just as well incorporate this hoppy as a part of my actions on the beaches.

Now first I have to learn how to catch an octopus by hand, as I believe that there's a special technique involved hahaha.

But yeah, the scanning hobby is top of my list.
As soon as it's operational I will be sure to tag you with my first find.

Hope that your Saturday was also good!

Uh nice! Catching octopus by hand? I would love to see you succeed that hihi. They are so good in escaping, I wonder if this could be done.

A hobby which would make you go in nature, breathe fresh air and find treasures.... That is a good hobby!

Oh, it can be done my friend and I look forward to it.
Thank you and I spend every loose minute in nature, so the hobby will be an added adventure.

Blessings for your new week.

I'd start looking myself if I was you!

Thank you Lady Lizelle.

I am indeed tempted to take the hobby up, but first I have to start the search for a used scanner and the other equipment. Maybe when I find the Kruger millions, I will be able to buy new equipment hahaha
With my luck I will only find an old half penny that's full of holes lol.

Blessings!

I'm from the UK and I metal detect. Trust me you don't go into the hobby to find a fortune. It's only occasionally that you find something good.

We have to have permission to dig most places, unless you can get a farmer's permission to detect on their land. You don't need permission on the beach though. Much easier to dig but you tend to find what has fallen out of people's pockets. A great hobby though!

Thank you @ellenripley

An interesting hobby.
I am seriously considering it and maybe it's no good for treasure hunting, but I think it could be good for unearthing historical stuff like the coin that the lady uncovered.
I have a bag full of old coins that I collected over time and as we live fairly close to the beach, it could be great to pass some quality time and to add to my bag..
If you have any other advice about the hobby, I will really appreciate it.

Thank you once again.

I'm fairly new to the hobby myself. I looked at the reviews for metal detectors that are good for newbies. I think it's worth paying that little bit more so you don't outgrow it too quickly. It all depends on your budget though.

I joined a metal detecting group as it was difficult to get permission from farmers. We all pay the group organiser a certain amount of money and they share it with the farmer. I also looked at a lot of YouTube videos. There are rules and regulations for detecting so do your research first as to what you can do and can't.

Good luck. I'm sure you will enjoy it!

I am fortunate to have that lady in my post here and I am sure that she will share her experiences with me.
The beaches will be my preferred places to practice and I heard that it is free.
We still have the broken shipwrecks here that will also make ideal searching grounds.

I will also have a look at the videos and thank you kindly for the advice.

Blessings!
