How Much Of What You Make Do You Truly Own

Life!!! Money!!! Bills!!! And more bills!! Especially bills, inevitable part of life that is very annoying but gives you relief when you sort it. Remember when you were a kid, you thought that adults have a lot of money and this made you eager to grow up fast. Well, how’s that’s working out for you? You grow up, you go to school, you get a job and pay bills.

But guess what? You are working for the bills, I will use Lagos state as an example. Everyone that stays in Lagos state knows how costly the transportation is in the state. You can literally spend 3/4 of your earnings or salary on transportation. If you are a worker and you spend that, am sorry, the transport industry owns your money. What do you do with the remaining 1/4, this is where you have other bills waiting for you at your door step. Let’s see what type of bill should you be expecting to be waiting for you, 🤔 let’s see, have you heard of the guy called utility Bill he comes with his friends called utility bills.

These guys don’t care about your mental health or how much you are making. When they arrive you have to attend to them. You can’t postpone giving them attention because, trust me when you do, you will regret it. They are very reproductive, one Bill left unattended will pile up, and before you know it, you are sunk in a pool of unattended bills, and bills are mandatory debt you have to pay. These guys right here own a lot of your money, especially when you decide to live above your means.

Then we have unforeseen circumstances like emergency situations. Let’s say accident or losing a valuable vital item that needs replacing. If you evaluate the cost of all these and the money you make, how much do you truly own? Money you have left after paying your bills, debt and all the necessary things needed is what you own. If you have $20 left off your $100 paycheck after paying the bills, your food and your transport, then that’s what you truly, like I will call it, your net worth.

I’m not a genius or financial advisor but if I weigh how much am making and compare it to the bills, and I find out that at the end of the month I own only 10%, am quitting the job or find a new one. Owning just 10% of your earnings is not life or it’s not living, it’s called surviving, and I didn’t come to this life to survive rather I came here to live this life.

Find a new job or a new hustle that will give you the opportunity to save 30% of what you earn every month. We have lots of people that live off the Hive blockchain and trust me they are living way better than other people who have jobs in Nigeria. 2 months ago I tweeted about a friend who left his job to focus on Hive, am glad to say he is one of the most active people I have onboarded on Hive. Thanks to Hive he is able to make his 5 months salary in 2 months without leaving his house. Aside that, he has his hive power powered up, the value of his Hive power is what he truly owns. Thanks to Hive for the opportunity my friend can boldly say he owns an asset somewhere because he has the keys to his Hive account. But he didn’t own anything when he was working at his former place of work, but instead he was being owed.

In the US, we pay taxes on our property (real estate) so, in a sense, we don't ever own it.

Why would we have to pay forever for something that is ours, you know?

But at least we own our stake on web3 so have that going for us which is nice.

Lol. He's always behind the scenes. When you think you have small something, he'll just come with paper. Mtchw. Like one shadow figure 😒

Story of my life. It's like I work just to pay Lagos drivers and utility bills. Even food items are quite pricey these days. Besides, I don't really know for sure but it seems to me like bills keep increasing with increasing income.

Sadly!!! As long as you are earning in naira and inflation keeps growing like weed, your earnings will be backwards

This is so true. So much of our money and time is wasted just trying to get back and forth to a traditional job that really is it even worth it?!? This is why we are in this space is to earn, learn, and help educate others on a better way!

Nice write up.
