π π₯ Three Years on the Hive Blockchain! π₯ π
Today I am celebrating my three year anniversary on the Hive blockchain! Exactly three years ago today, I decided to "jump in" and establish an online profile here. Prior to making that decision, it was a step I had said would never happen.
That is, I am not now or ever have been on Facebook, Twitter, ?...? and still maintain that I almost certainly never will be.
Since posting my introduction on 14 May 2018, though, it has been an absolutely wonderful experience "in here." I would never have imagined my "journey" through this "virtual world" would involve engaging with others all over the world and what that experience has meant to me.
It is always nice to get these "milepost" awards from @hivebuzz.
from the team of Witness @arcange
I got this in August of 2020, since this is my "official" anniversary. It all began long, long ago, in a land far, far away ...
Here is where it all began. And why, dear reader, you and I ever "met." Hmmm. 22.493 STEEM HIVE ... As all can see, I started out from humble beginnings. If one chooses to go into the blockchain and look, my first transactions were DCA steps into this new "virtual world" ...
What I am going to do to mark this occasion is put together a complete picture of what this year has looked like, from the point-of-view of my posting. This post will serve as a key reference for me, from now on. And it will always mean a great deal to me, given what it represents.
First Two Years - Looking back ...
Before getting into year three, here is a reference to all of the work I put in years one and two. It highlights the value I have added to our Hive blockchain.

π π₯ Two Years on the Hive Blockchain! π₯ π
I celebrated my 2nd anniversary by again creating a complete picture of the year. Just as I had done after my 1st year - I built an index of every post. | |
π₯ One Year on the Steem Blockchain! π₯ Part 1 ... I celebrated my 1st anniversary by creating a complete picture of what the year had looked like. I built an index of every post and it has served as an invaluable reference ever since. | |
π₯ One Year on the Steem Blockchain! π₯ Part 2 ... In creating my 1st anniversary post, I managed to break Steem! π§ I got a dreaded "Exceeds maximum length (65 KB)" error! π So ... Had to break it up. |
At the end of each of these posts, I put together a brief "Executive Summary" of what I had accomplished.
Here is what I said then:
Okay, short of my original objective of writing a post a week. And, with a second year objective of working on writing shorter posts, looks like I failed ... π
And also this:
Am I just adding value by writing my own posts? And not adding value to the work of others by looking into and commenting on their posts?
These numbers speak for themselves. It has always meant something to me that comments add value to the work of others. I have been complimented a number of times over the quality of the effort I put into this. That is very unlikely to change (in spite of the negative impact on them of the EIP changes of HF 21 / 22)
Here is what I said then, about what those numbers represented, when comparing the value I had added to our Hive blockchain, in my first year:
Hmmm. I wonder what the average number of words are in other Steemian posts? π€ What I do know, is that in our PIFC community founder @thedarkhorse has set the minimum number of words in a "quality content" post to be 200. If I was producing posts like that, I would've ended up with 805 posts! π
Even raising that standard up and doubling that to an average of 400 words per post, I still would've ended up with 403 posts - more than one per day, 7 days a week. π
Well, with that, my first year is "in the bag" and time will tell how I do in my second year! π
With that, let's see what I accomplished in my third year ...
Adventures in Traveling
While they take a lot of work, there are no posts I have enjoyed writing on our Hive blockchain more than recreating for my dear readers and doing my part to help the great HaveYouBeenThere community:
Lead Image | Title, Link, & Summary |
---|---|
Travelogue 8: Spectacular Flaming Gorge in Utah When visiting these powerful examples of man's engineering genius, there are few better than this remote dam on the border of Wyoming and Utah and the lake behind it. | |
Travelogue 7: Back in Time at Spirit West River Lodge You truly go back in time here in this hideaway in a remote part of the country, with wonderful people as your hosts. | |
Travelogue 6: Snowy Range Scenic Byway in Wyoming! π On a remarkable day in Southeastern Wyoming, we not only got to see spectacular views like this, but also a mountain lion and a moose! |
These only scratch the surface of some of the traveling adventures I had in 2020 and early 2021. I have a lot of pictures and notes from them, when I have time to resume my travel adventure posting ...
Since they seem to be well received and rewarded, hopefully that will be sooner rather than later!
Finance and Investing
On my 3 year "journey," on our Hive blockchain, I have made no bigger (and more profitable!) decision than the one in late June 2020 to go my own way and get away from the "echo chamber" of the main Hive blockchain and focus, instead, on some of its "second layer" communities and tokens.
Like the LeoFinance community and its LEO, WLEO, BLEO, and CUB tokens:

Cub Finance: DeFi for the Masses! π Launched on 8 March 2021, this post talks about Cub Finance and the door it opens up, for many who have never experienced the remarkable economic power of the "DeFi," to get involved in it. Which I thankfully chose to do on Day 1! | |
Introducing Gemini's Cryptopedia and RenVM Introduced Gemini's new info resource that day I learned about it. Upon finding crypto RenVM was covered, introduced that as well, as my latest investment. | |
"Dry Powder" and the LHP Token! Determined to never again "blindly" power up all HIVE, explored this experimental token offering an attractive, alternative solution! | |
Is the Future Bright in Hive's "Second Layer?" 2 months after my first post on making a decision between further investments in LEO and / or BRO, I wrote this follow-up. On the decision to invest in both and why I am glad I did! | |
"Wrapped" Tokens are the Future? My "contrarian" view of the speculative "feeding frenzy" surrounding the use of "wrapped" tokens in pursuing the potential of DeFi opportunities. | |
"Macro" Trading! A Success Story? Not a trader, by any means, this post details the success I enjoyed in "macro" trading for 5,000 HIVE tokens, from revenues powering down on Steem. | |
Money Goes Where Treated Best!? With a decision to make re: where to invest future funds, in choosing between BRO and LEO, I take a closer look at this well-known bit of investment advice. Should we consider whether it really holds true for the Hive blockchain? | |
π² Your Money Making Money! π° Sound Good? How can we apply the "eighth wonder of the world" to the new BRO token of the relaunched Man Cave community? This post addresses that question, along with touching on some of the vital discipline needed for financial independence. | |
Land of Leo: My First LeoDex Transaction!? With discretionary $s from powering down on the Steem, I decided to invest some of it into more LEO tokens. Here is my experience with LeoDex in doing it. |
If you have not yet done so, dear reader, I highly recommend you consider a similar adventure in exploring the rich diversity of "second layer" tokens on our Hive blockchain.
If there is a long-term viable future for it, I think it will be due to the continued development and growth of these communities! Not the main blockchain ...
Man Cave Project
As mentioned above, in June and July of 2021, I made some very important decisions about my participation in the "second layer" of the Hive blockchain.
Next to LeoFinance, the other community into which I invested the most time and $$ was the Man Cave Project of @raymondspeaks.
Here are the posts I wrote, for that community:

God Help Amy Coney Barrett! In my personal opinion, President Trump's selection of this woman to the Supreme Court and subsequently successfully fighting the battle to have her confirmed to it, was his single greatest achievement. | |

Hive Blockchain
Hard to be on the Hive blockchain and not be aware of all that is going on which affect all of us. Like many, from time to time, I write about my thoughts. Including my now only occasional updates on how my personal "journey" is going:
Lead Image | Title, Link, & Summary |

Update, Month 30: π² Is @roleerob an Orca!? π¦ Well ... π€·ββοΈ On October 9th, after evaluating my portfolio on the Hive blockchain, I had a lot of fun writing this post explaining how I was now an "Orca!" π | |

Other
A number of the remaining posts have been categories of their own in the past, but I haven't written enough of them lately to justify a separate section.
So ... Here they are!
Lead Image | Title, Link, & Summary |
---|---|
Reflections: Glorious Day in the High Country! Got an invitation from one of my children to spend a day out in the high country, so made the most of it. Among many delights, got to see a young bull moose! | |
COVID-19: Uprooted ... With the growing impact on my own family, wrote my 1st post in a long while about the "war" on COVID-19. Tied it to the idea of a mighty tree being uprooted and what force that takes! |
Executive Summary
So, putting a "wrap" on this ... @roleerob is unapologetically a "numbers guy," dear reader. Closing out my third year on our Hive blockchain, what does the "big picture" look like? What value have I contributed to it?
Okay, short of my original objective of writing a post a week. And, once again, with a third year objective of working on writing shorter posts, looks like I failed ... ππ€·ββοΈ
Am I just adding value by writing my own posts? And not adding value to the work of others by looking into and commenting on their posts?
This is somewhat dated and there is no information to check this on Hive of which I am aware. Although it can't be exact, the numbers speak for themselves, in answering the question. Few can show similar results in their effort to engage with others ...
Overall, even as a "part-timer, I feel very good about the value I add to our Hive blockchain." With that, my third year is "in the bag." Time will tell how I do in my fourth year. I am not going anywhere! π
Closing Thoughts
Without apology, dear reader, I have always made it clear I came here as an investor. That is very unlikely to change as my primary focus and it shows this year.
As part of that, I made a huge decision this year to get away from the "echo chamber" of the main Hive blockchain and focus on "second layer" communities, like the LeoFinance community. The best decision I have made so far, on my "journey" in this "virtual world!"
With that, "onward and upward," into Year 4! Iβd love to hear any feedback you may be inspired to provide.
Until "next time," all the best to you for a better tomorrow, as we all work together to build up our Hive Communities and add increasing value to our Hive blockchain! π π
Respectfully,

Congratulations πΎ on sticking around for these amazing past 3 years.
Reading through this very long and detailed post, you worked your way to the top of Hive users and you had quite some success.
To the many years ahead π»!
Interesting thought @vlemon ...
... as I don't think of myself as being anywhere near the top. Over this time period, I actually have decided (somewhat touched on in this post ...) that I never will either ... I prefer instead to focus on the "second layer" communities which stand out to me.
I suppose like anything else, though, it is a matter of personal perspective ...
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your perspective! ππ

Congratulations. I find that focusing on 2nd layer communities is a great idea and it is something I also decided to do. There is just too much going on that I have given up and decided to focus on a few.
The length of your posts sure is long. Did they only get longer as time passes by on the chain? I wonder if I will come back a year from now and see that average number over 2k.

Glad to hear you have settled on a similar approach @jfang003. In one way or another, I suppose we all have no choice, as no one can keep up with "every corner" of our Hive blockchain.
"Just be yourself" is good advice, I think. So ... I have found I enjoy writing more than anticipated. I just "let it flow" and it ends up wherever it ends up ... Actually, if you check my "stats" for these 3 years, they are fairly "steady" and just under 2,000 words on average ... π
But ... The heart of the matter is more about which type of post I feel inspired to write. Some just take longer and are more involved ...
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your perspective! ππ

Glad you never left us for long over the years. Another long one here, again. π You should just be yourself and don't force what you're not, in my opinion. No need for shorter posts if they aren't you.
Yeah, I'm afraid that will likely be the case for most of whatever I write "in here" @minismallholding. I have actually managed to write posts under 1,000 words, but that doesn't happen often. Oh well ... π€·ββοΈπ
"Just be yourself" is good advice. I appreciate all you and others do, by just being yourselves, as well. I think it is part of the overall "fabric" of an enterprise like this. That we are "woven" together in some way and everyone is their "piece of the quilt" ...
One of these days, I will likely return to writing more. I do enjoy it. I just have way too many higher priority matters IRL to take care of first ...
Thanks for stopping by! ππ

I've been the same of late with real life. I realise I probably allow too much of my time to get taken up here and have been trying to remedy that.
Yes, it can really "creep up" on you unawares ... And beyond that, I then struggled with finding, when I tried to "dial back," that my "momentum" I had worked so hard to achieve in here slipped.
In some cases, badly ... π’
Oh well. I had to reach a decision on what was more important. Knowing that time was my most valuable asset, rather than $$, I have come to terms with it ...
All the best to you, in reaching your own place of peace on what the "balance" needs to be for you and yours. π

Congrats @roleerob !! We need more investors and part timers like you on Hive, that's what makes a good chain and community.
Dig out those travel photos sometime please, Pinmapple is waiting for you!!
Thank you @livinguktaiwan ...
... as you and I view this the same way. Sadly, it takes a certain "type" I think to do it successfully. Many will get frustrated with how certain aspects of it "play out" and leave. I know I got "to the brink" on doing exactly that myself. More than once ... I think I have finally reached my own place of "peace" about my place "in here" and just go on ...
Yes, I do need to dig them out and write those posts one of these days. I think I will return to writing more, at some point in the future. I just have too many higher priority matters IRL to take care of first. We'll see ...
For now, I'll just stick with my occasional "POL" posts. π Until next time, thank you for stopping by! ππ

Congratulations on being here for three years and for all of your achievements and contributions. I am a very glad to hear you are not going anywhere :)
I also agree with what @minismallholding said. If you love writing lengthy posts continue doing that. If your readers value your content they will read it no matter how long they are. This is coming from someone who too has written quite lengthy posts lately. My posts went from 2-4 minutes to 8 and above. I still receive valuable comments and feedback and appreciate that.
Hereβs to another year! π₯³
Very nice to hear from you @crosheille! π Yes, "just be yourself" is good advice. Being naturally competitive and pretty intense, at times, it took me awhile, but I have reached my own "peace" about my role "in here" ...
This is the key. I surprisingly found I enjoyed writing more than I expected I would. So ... I just "let it flow" and it ends up wherever it ends up ... π
Hope you and yours are well. Until next time, thank you for stopping by! π

Same here. Never knew how much I would enjoy writing until joining here. Letting it flow is always a good plan ;)
We are all doing well, thank you. Enjoy your weekend ~
um hive isnt even 3 years old so NO you havent been on hive for 3 years maybe hivemind lol
you been on steem 3.0 bro
Dear my honorable senior @roleerob, I am glad that you are currently healthy and active.
I understood it as an act of people probably praising your great achievements!π
I would be glad if I could only understand 50% of your great article.π
By the way, I thought that I can understand your articles only if I gain experience in investing in cryptocurrency.π
It is interesting that you are active in 2 different communities. What are the advantages of joining and working with communities?
https://coingeek.com/south-korea-pledges-crackdown-on-money-laundering-via-digital-currencies/
The Korean government is tightening restrictions on the use of digital currencies.
The Korean government is doing that because it cannot receive taxes through virtual currency transactions.
ps: Will you get the coronavirus vaccine?
Yes, I am thankfully both healthy and active, my Korean friend! π
I think the greatest potential for our Hive blockchain are the so-called "second layer" communities. Like LeoFinance that you and I are commenting on right now ...
They create their own tokens and increase the value of them by how well they go about the process of getting their communities started and then how they go about governing its progress over time. I think LeoFinance is the best example on our Hive blockchain of this, although there are certainly other very good communities.
For example, I am fond of the HaveYouBeenThere community and their very impressive global map, upon which you can pin the location of any post you may choose to write. I am debating whether to take the time to write another one about the location here in which I am responding to you - southeastern Wyoming! π
Hope all is well with you and yours!

Hmm, Your thought is interesting! However, it is difficult to understand the concept and usage of capitalist speculation with my current English conversation skills.
Perhaps, you can use cryptocurrency as a speculative commodity because of your lifetime stock speculation experience.
At the moment, I must always be aware that I am at the level of elementary school students in the United States.
Dear @roleerob, I hope you will point out if my awkward English has made you offensive.π
I was amazed that LeoFinance created and valued their tokens.
It was the first time I knew LeoFinance was such a large and strong organization worldwide.π²
By the way, I don't have the ability to freely communicate in English at LeoFinance.
I didn't know that the HaveYouBeenThere community is an organization that creates global maps. π
I wonder why you worry about writing about the location of southeastern Wyoming.π³
Are you worried about your personal information being leaked?
I am not writing an article about my area because my personal information might be leaked.π
MY senior @roleerob, I think you don't have to overdo it.π
Thank you for your kind answer!
I hope your healthy, and longlife, fortune!

Yeah, well, just keep working away and you never know what might happen! I certainly had no idea that post would end up as the highest awarded Hive post that day.
I don't know if you play golf (I really don't much either), but that experience reminded me of people I have heard telling their "hole in one" stories. You never know if it will ever happen. And, if it does, you know it is very unlikely to ever happen again! π
thanks! ππ€
and yea.. i do play mini golf sometimes..
Hey @roleerob, congratulations! It's so lovely to read your update, and see how well you've been doing. It's been about three years since we last crossed paths. Somehow, I've made my way back. It's weird. It feels the same, but completely different. I have a lot of catching up to do. I might check out LeoFinance, but only after I read up on it. So, that means checking out some of your posts, because you were always so helpful when we were in the other place - not sure if it's like Voldemort and is a name that shouldn't be mentioned - but you know where I mean. Thanks for making it so easy to check out your posts. That's what I remember you doing, making things easier, leaving helpful comments, and being a swell guy throughout. Also, congrats on the Orca status! I know it was well deserved. π
Very nice to "hear" from you @juliamulcahy. I do have fond memories of our exchanges. π Since "we were in the other place" (π), I have intentionally modified my investment of time "in here" for reasons I won't bore you with, but ...
I am still "around" almost daily and will be happy to help you anyway I can. That really is the single biggest reason I am still here - the opportunity to engage with others all over the world ...
I hope you and yours are doing well. Until next time, all the best to you, for a better tomorrow!
P.S. FWIW, there are things I am unwilling to have "immutably enshrined" in this blockchain. If you ever find any future value in the idea, I am willing to communicate more openly on Discord. My contact info there => roleerob#3299.
Ah, @roleerob, so glad I left a lasting impression. I'll definitely be in touch via Discord, although, again, it's another world entirely. I'm still exploring. Me and mine are all doing well. Thank you for your good wishes. And, likewise to you and yours, all the best. π
