Worlds Largest Gold Nugget Found with a Metal Detector - The Hand of Faith

avatar

Following on from my previous posts about the largest gold nuggets ever found: Worlds Largest Gold Nugget and The Second Largest Gold Nugget Discovered - The Welcome Nugget

The largest gold nugget ever found is still in existence (it hasn't been melted down unlike many others). It was discovered by Kevin Hellier using an electronic metal detector near Kingower, Victoria, Australia in 1980. The Hand of Faith weighs 27.21 kg (875 troy ounces) and gets its name from it's shape.

It was sold to the Golden Nugget Casino six months after the discovery for more than one million dollars. The nugget is exhibited in the casino that bought it in Las Vegas. Gold prospecting is still popular in the golden triangle in Victoria, Australia, but no nuggets as large as this one have been found since. At todays price, this nugget would be worth AUD$2.1 million and then some due to its shape and rarity.

Perhaps I need to dust of the metal detector and hope for some gold nuggets (not the brown ones!)

Thanks for reading.

That would be a nice addition to the stack. I'm just kidding but I would sell it and retire.
