Consumerism

Some people today don't worry about the future or what life will be like in terms of survival; instead, they choose to assert their superiority over others by flaunting or bluffing, buying more expensive goods to demonstrate to others that they have adequate finances.

Due to the drive to obtain more material possessions, money that should be saved or kept in savings to be utilized for the future is instead used to buy the newest and most fashionable cars, clothes, greatest cuisines, and other items.

Look at our life before we make another purchase. Are the things in which we are investing our time, money, energy, and other resources genuinely the things that are essential to us? Do our goods make our life better or worse? Examine every aspect of our life, including our pay, our outgoing costs, and our routines. Both the necessities and the luxuries should be separated. Then, ask ourself honestly if we are happy with these things.

Don't imitate others. You do not have to lead the same life as your friends, neighbors, relatives, or someone you look up to. In all honesty, neither of you might be able to afford that lifestyle. Your financial security and peace of mind shouldn't be dependent on other people's decisions.

Learn about your weaknesses. Understand the factors that influence your consumer behavior. Is the source of your debt a person, a product, a situation, or a store? Do you shop when you're anxious, depressed, bored, or just when you see a "SALE" sign? Observe your own actions, spot the signals, and take action to thwart or oppose them.

Think about what drives you. Advertisers use our motivations to increase our spending. In order to have a greater impact, they subtly tap into our desires while focusing on our emotions. They claim their goods will meet your needs, no matter what you may be looking for. Discover what motivates your desire by digging deeper. You can start looking for healthy ways to satisfy the need once you are aware of what drives you.

Let's put ourselves to the test. Let us try going without shopping for 30 days. When we surpass that, challenge ourselves even more and see how long we can maintain it. Adapt the challenge to our area of weakness, such as shopping for clothes, trinkets, or eating out.

Start saying “no” to consumerism.

That's so interesting. It's so true, you don't need to imitate others. As there is always other people more wealthier. You just need to be yourself and spend what you can afford !

Otherwise, you fall into consumerism.

What consumerism really is, at its worst is getting people to buy things that don't actually improve their lives.

Hello @melinda010100.
“There is no dignity quite so impressive, and no one independence quite so important, as living within your means.” – Calvin Coolridge.
Calvin Coolridge is dead on with this. Living within our means should be our constant goal. Spending too much will only cause us to take on debt to pay for our extravagance. I don't mind if someone takes out a loan to purchase a valuable asset like real estate, but it's a mistake to go into debt to pay for necessities like food and shelter.

“Being frugal allows you to appreciate the simple things in life.” – John Sachem.
Nothing relieves stress like leading a simple life without external competition. If you continue down this path, you will quickly discover what you were missing by overextending your finances, @rufeytenily.

“Frugality is the daughter of common sense, the sister of moderation and the mother of freedom.” – Samuel Smiles.
I also view being frugal as a way to achieve freedom in this world. Being economical is just good sense. Never overspend your money, especially if it results in credit card debt. If you want good debt, use it to buy assets.

Being thrifty is the wise thing to do. If you weigh the advantages of being frugal, you'll be persuaded that it's the wise thing to do. Instead of spending money on items that add no worth to your life, there are better things you might do with it. Saving and investing your money is the wise thing to do.

It's amazing how offers work in people's minds. I remember once when I was younger when I worked in a large DIY store that we placed an item on a yellow background for sale and doubled its sale, without changing the price. With another article, in addition to putting it on a yellow background, we put it on a podium of boxes, its sale was multiplied by 4, we did not change the price either. And of course they weren't necessities but impulse purchases.

It's natural to want items that will make your life more pleasant and fulfilling. To make life easier, we work to gain money and amass material possessions.

Sometimes, though, our quest for monetary abundance turns us into egotistical, greedy people. People value materialism more these days than they do relationships and other life experiences.

I didn't really need a new pair of Demonia Riot platform boots anyway, it's a 'Want' than a need.

Always, with love 🤗🌺❤️

It is just nice to browse and see what others are buying. If you really want it, then it must be worth the wait until you have saved up for it.
Same with the semi-numismatic gold coins. I cannot afford it unless I save up. It's more a want, than a need. It's just a matter of deciding whether to buy fractional bullion gold or bullion silver.
Ahhh... limited resources, even for savings!!!!
Seven years more... until this house if totally mine. I can't wait!!!!
Hugs and kisses, sis 🥰

You know those items at the checkout stands that hang along just before you put your purchases on the conveyor belt? They are called impulse merchandise, because they are usually comprised of items we might not have thought about needing, like batteries. Also, items we might like to have, such as a luscious piece of chocolate; hand sanitizer; a bottle of refreshment, and the list goes on. They market those items because as consumers, we are susceptible to suggestion.

The same thing can go for the word 'sale', as you mentioned. From a marketing aspect, we are ripe for the picking! Moderation is a good word to use regarding just about anything in life. Consume, but pay attention, as you mentioned, to our triggers.

Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day, sis!🤗😘❤️🌸. !LADY

Always have a list when you shop, if is not in the list, you may not need it, hehehe! I remember back when I always reach for items out of impulse... chocolates!!!
In the drug store, gosh... buy two bottles of supplements, and the second bottle is 50% off! And there is always something.
Hugs ad kisses, sis 🥰

I have noticed that the closer we get to Christmas, more impulsive people get with their shopping @silversaver888 ...... And the more expensive the presents become🙄
Some of the most precious gifts I have given, or received didn't cost very much.....
Shopping needs to follow this same example.......
