"I do not invest in the project, I invest in the people" - A month of BRO

If you haven't been hiding the past couple of weeks, you know what the buzz on HIVE is around! 2nd layers.

While a lot of people think 2nd layer tokens will be the future of this blockchain, the community infrastructure is nowhere near the level it needs to be for 2nd layers to become a realistic possibility. There are quite a few other shortcomings too which I read about in a post by Tarazkp. I'm no expert so I'll not even tread on those waters.

Let's stick to community, as this is something I do understand. It is obvious that for a second layer token to succeed, it needs a dedicated and capable team that delivers on its promises, and a community that will go long on the project. That is not a very easy combo to come across and exactly the reason why we don't see too many successful second layer tokens. So far, we've seen LEO, DEC of Splinterlands and DCity as the only second layer project with a vision and a clear future plan along with a community behind them that is actively engaged in pushing the development further.

The newest kid on the block is BRO of The Mancave project. BRO seems to meet both the criteria of a dedicated, delivering team and a strong community. The Mancave Project started with a decent delegation of 300k HP and this was one of the main sources of paying dividends of dalily curation rewards to the BRO holders. While @raymondspeaks has repeatedly reminded us that this is just an extra bonus for holding BRO, the returns were very impressive and on its own became an incentive for people to buy into the project more.

Two weeks into the launch @brofund lost its delegation. It was an unfortunate hiccup and most projects would have crumbled at this point, with the majority of the community abandoning ship. But we were fortunate to have some very wise people in the community who saw through and collectively decided to go forward with the project instead of accepting Ray's generous buyout offer.

And the team delivered. Despite losing the delegation, the dividends didn't stop as @brofund already had invested and created another source of stable inflow of funds (which shows the project has vision). And guess where those funds were coming from, DCity, another second layer project! This is something @taskmaster4450 has termed as cross pollination and he thinks this will be quite important as we move forward with second layers in general. I'll have to do a bit more research on this to understand the concept, but it is quite admirable how the cross pollination in fact helped one of the projects move forward!

Even though Ray now has over 600K HP at his disposal, they are not directly delegated to the @brofund account, so we still had to get some delegation for the @brofund account itself to sustain growth of the account instead of most of the incoming funds from going into dividends. But despite all the hiccups, the investors by now should have already made 5% of their initial investment back in exactly 30 days of dividends.

I kept a tab of how much we were receiving in dividends every day. The last 30 days I received 30.052 HIVE. My initial investment being 567 HIVE, it's about 5% which should be the same for all those who bought in on day 1. During this time period, if we look at the growth of @brofund's own HP, we'll see it has risen from the 300 HP mark to over 4k HP. That is impressive growth for any project.

The way the community has acted in the face of an adverse situation, and the way the team delivered on their promises makes me hopeful. I'm not shilling, but it might be wise to have some BRO in the bag ;) But hey, as taskmaster says, we are BRO holders. We maybe biased. But bias with logical extension is good isn't it! Always do your own research. Check out the community over at discord and talk to the team who are very reachable, down to earth (one of them literally) kind of people. Some wise man once told,

I do not invest in the project, I invest in the people.
