HIVE: Tokens In Strong Hands

avatar

One of the things that I believe is crucial for a cryptocurrency to be successful is for the token to be in strong hands. This is something that I felt was present among the Steem community and it proved true over the last month and a half.

It is often observed how many wallets holding large amounts of Bitcoin do not conduct any transactions. They are HODLers all the way. This provides a great deal of promise for the future of that platform since the token holders are looking long term. They are not dumping with every drop in price.

Because of recent events, the community on Steem, for the most part, came together. It was uplifting to see the stance the community took with its actions. By this I mean, the amount of tokens that were powered up and the number of votes cast. This enabled the community to battle to a stalemate.

While it is easy to think that it was all the doing of the larger accounts, the simple fact is there were thousands of dolphins and minnows who were involved. These individuals are just as dedicated as the largest of whales, providing all they could to the cause.

As we know, the main result from all this was the forking that led to the creation of Hive. This caused somewhat of a split within the community as some chose to remain on Steem while others moved to Hive.

Even thought the numbers of a bit smaller than they were, I think we can conclude that the HIVE token is in some very strong hands. In fact, it could be possible that the hands are stronger since there is a renewed dedication and excitement. This is only going to enhance what takes place going forward.

One of the things I always followed was the number of accounts powering up. It is something that I will have to start again. However, when smaller accounts are adding 20%, 40%, or 60% to their holding over time, as we saw, this makes a difference. Individually each of us does make a difference since it results in a collective gain.

Token hodling represents belief and dedication. It is very easy to get tokens in people's hands. That is nothing more than an airdrop. What is difficult is getting people to hold those tokens. The tendency is to shrug the token off and dump it.

Over the first few weeks, we will see some of this as many bought STEEM to get the airdrop. It was a quick way to double their money. Those people will sell out, causing downward pressure on the token. This, of course, is another opportunity for the stronger hands.

CZ, for better or worse, said that as long as he is around, Bitcoin would never go to zero. We can make the same assessment of HIVE. As long as there are so many thousands of people who are truly dedicated to making this work, the token has a floor in it. Even with all the chaos with STEEM, I think the low was about 7 cents. Hive has the advantage of being a platform that does not have the same baggage that Steem did.

For a community led initiative to be successful, it requires the efforts of many people. With Hive, I see that dedication starting with what many are doing with their tokens. The fact that we have numerous members talking about powering up is a positive sign. This is not just a small circle of people. There are thousands doing the same thing.

Thus, I feel the stronger the hands holding the token, the greater the chance of success.

Hive is off to a great start.

This is definitely a good and positive sign. I hope that people will also realize the importance of being social, including upvoting other people's posts and comments, and commenting under other people's posts/comments. Nowadays the real human comments are rare. Both on the Steem blockchain and on the Hive blockchain.

That is true although I am not sure that we see numbers that are any worse than on the traditional ones.

For example, the number of comments versus views on YouTube are very small. We also see not a ton of comments on Reddit for the numbers in each category.

But the social aspect is truly important and, I agree completely, I hope it picks up now that we are on Hive.

Agreed, however, in case we want more social interactions within the community we have to reward such behaviour and that's pretty much it.

The problem is that the majority of us, who are still in crypto after 2 years-long bear market, shares the same passion towards ideas that are beyond the definition of being social. We share the same passion towards token economics, economy in general, money, crypto and Governance, everything else, besides games, seems trivial if compared to it.

Apps such as @Appics or @esteemapp similar might be the trigger that will bring the masses. Hive actually needs ONE killer app that will intrigue the masses. Once the idea is implemented it's hard to simply ignore it.

But yeah, I agree haha

HODLing doing nothing for crypto, as well as dumping. What will be great for token is ACTUAL USE of it.

The best part about Hive is the diversity of ideas coming together for different purposes which all are driven by a spirit of liberty.
I have only been here maybe a month, and leading up to and since the hardfork I see projects embracing the undying spirit and limitless potential that has come from the commnity's success in overcoming the oppression of centralization and evolving and upgrading with true innovation and progress.
That "one killer app" will come, but I believe we can create the hub for the best and highest use of the priciples of blockchain technology. The rabid growth of social media seems to be taken for granted by the fact that things move so fast today, but it's obvious that is what people want and would rather use. People will and are adopting these society transforming innovations.
If they had a decentralized alternative to what they are already interacting with, and were shown and given the opportunity to take ownership of their value it would really change things!
If We build it, they will come!
Why not Hive?

I feel that the biggest problem with cryptos and tokens as far as adoption and volatility, is that they are still only being used by most as a type of lottery ticket or a stock, they only see the value as related to fiat money they still need to operate and survive.
We have to develop real world means for people to USE the currency instead of just trading it back and forth trying to increase their fiat.
The powers that be are already working as hard as they can to make this happen within their centralized systems. (Libra, waltoncoin, Amazon, etc).
Hive and the Hive community is in perfect position to usher in the benefits
and promise decentralization can affect through all aspects of society.
Individuals working together for the benefit of All!

The Steem I'm powering down will be used to buy hive to power up.

I'm downpowering my steem account to be able to pay bills this month. In the same time, I'm writing on Hive hoping to get more HIVE.

Our community is great!
