Leo Whale Report: How Much LEO Is Required For Each Level

avatar
(Edited)

For the sake of brevity, this will end up being two posts. In the first, I will break down the particular levels of being a LEO. This is going to be a system that is based upon how Hive operates and simply transferred to Leo.

Some might not think the best approach and that is fine. It would be best to put any suggestions or other ways of calculating in the comment section.

The first part of our analysis requires a conversion factor from Hive to Leo.

We start with Hive. According to Hiveblocks this is the current supply:

hive.png

Next we get the supply of LEO. This came from Leodex.io.

hive.png

Now we can get our ratio. With 372 million HIVE outstanding (we will omit the HBD because that can fluctuate based upon a variety of factors), and 5.8 million LEO, we simply divide the later by the former.

5,810,541/372,960,013 = .0156

Thus our conversion ratio is .0156. We will use that is in a bit

To figure out the categories on Hive, we need to understand that it is not HP that determines each level but, rather MVests. The categories break down as follows:

Minnow 1 MV; Dolphin 10 MV; Orca 100 MV; Whale 1,000 MV

Therefore, we will use the Hive MV ratio supplied by https://hive-db.com/.

hive.png

Thus to reach each level on Hive is as follows:

Minnow 520.815 HP
Dolphin 5,208.150 HP
Orca 52,081.500 HP
Whale 520,815.00 HP

Now we simply multiply the Hive to LEO ratio (.0156) by each level of HP to get the conversion.

Here is how it all unfolds:

Minnow 8.125 LEO
Dolphin 81.250 LEO
Orca 812.471 LEO
Whale 8,124.714 LEO
Big Kahuna 81,247.140 LEO
Lion King 812,471.40 LEO

You will notice we added another category above Whale. The reason for this is to distinguish the distribution in a better fashion. Having another category allows the Whales the opportunity to "graduate" to another level, providing a more detailed view of how this tokens are truly held.

Tomorrow, in the second part, I will build upon the reports from a couple months ago to show how things are shaping up right now.

Please let me know your thoughts on this and the system that was put into place.

Do you agree with the metrics used or do you think something different should be done?

It would be nice to see a graph from themore to the least possessing Leo during the last month, I'm almost a whale, thanks for these numbers

That will be in the next report I do, probably in 24 hours.

It will lay out what is held according to the Leo Richlist on the leodex.

First time I've ever been an Orca. Feels good!

tenor 1.gif

Kind of funny to see how onealfa is able to push 10 people per day straight into Dolphin status..
Well, 5 as they only get to keep 50% of the rewards.. But still. I look forward to see the second part.

Oh well, a long way to go, but I'm heading for Whale status now then!

Yeah and I found when I put them together a couple of months back, people suddenly were motivated. Gamification certainly works.

People were instantly excited to learn they were dolphins or whatever, even though their LEO holding was the same as before the read the post.

Either way, it is fun to watch people adding to their holdings. The eyeball test tells me the HPUD was a success today.

The eyeball test tells me the HPUD was a success today.

It sure looks like it. I've seen dozens of HPUD posts.

Well, I honestly don't care much about my current level or status, what's important is what is ahead of me. My goals. Even though it's obviously fun to have reached a new level, or that I can actually refer to myself as something completely different than I've been used to in the past, I'm more interested in the actual stake I'm going for. I have roughly 650 LEO to go before I reach 3K, and that's my goal for this year. I need approximately 11 LEO per day for that to happen, but things are looking good so far, so I might be able to reach it.

Yeah the odds are you will get there especially since every power up helps your curation. They have to be growing steady in addition to your author/comment posts.

That is very true. I'll probably try to crunch some numbers in the coming days, to see the exact progress. The eyeball test tells me that my goal is within reach before the end of this year.. But I might have bad eyesight. lol

It truly would be a sight to behold to see accounts struggling to get that 8.125 LEO in order to become a Minnow. It sounds so ridiculous today, yet fully within the realm of possibility given say a 10 year timeline.

Yeah we already see the value of individual posts going down as more posts are made and activity is increasing.

So you are right, a couple more 10x in the active user base and this could be a valid forecast. People will struggle to get a few LEO on each post.

Thanks for the explanation/clarification!

A very long way for me to reach at whale. Let's keep showing and keep progressing for my 10K LEO.

Very close to 5K now.

5K is still a very good total to reach.

It all builds. Just wait for the price action once wLEO is re-released. We could see some much higher numbers.

May be , But I am not going to settle down even a penny less in 10K.

While the ratio seems a little helter skelter right now....it should fill in nicely once more and more peeps become Leos! I too, am a Killer Whale. Interesting that combined, my LEO Hodlings make me a HIVE dolphin.

That is one of the more interesting factors and why people should be excited what is taking place. Many, if they mentally converted their tokens to HP, would see how much bigger their accounts are. It is an unrealistic move at this time since liquidity for most things is scarce. However, over time, it is a viable path to growth for most accounts.

I had expected this stat for a long time. It's been a while you shared on this. Awesome that as LEO grows, graduating the class gets easier with LEO. However, I think we could also look at upvote equivalents of HIVE in terms of LEO in the classifications.

Thanks for the numbers, people have asked so much about that yesterday on my post. They couldn't believe how high they actually are themselves within the LEO ranks. Good thing to have the extra category "Big Kahuna" for LEO, as the numbers are somehow weird to accept for people used to the HIVE categories. And it is more expensive to rise in ranks with HIVE than with LEO. Yet, it is greater to be a large fish in LEO than in HIVE for various reasons. That shows how early we still are with the LEO token.

For now. However, with such a tight float, the pricing could get a lot more expensive over the next few months. We will see how wLEO affects things. The first go-around, it was extremely positive for the price.

great analysis dear.. So currently I'am an Orca here and on my way to being a Whale pretty soon. Whereas on HIVE, I'm yet to reach Orca position. But am positive to get there by the end of 2020. thank you sharing the details. cheers

I think maybe Kraken instead of Big Kahuna?

At least that's Sea Related!

Difficult to think of anything else bigger than a whale...

Although maybe the connotation is all wrong with the Kraken, they're hardly benevolent creatures!

A lot of whales in crypto are hardly benevolent themselves.

Fair point, you know I was mulling the term over while having a coffee earlier - A Kraken is a beast who you'd rather not disturb for fear of incurring its wrath, so it kind of captures the dark side of Whales - just not the potential up side!

I don't think I'd be happy with the Big Kahuna label either though!

I wish Leo had savannah type levels and instead of Big Kahuna we'd have The Lion King!

The challenge with that is that it might add to the confusion people have.

We might have another layer forming so maybe that will be for that level.

From this comparison. it is very attractive to invest in leo. With the big pump, leo is quite profitable

In my opinion, LEO can be profitable long term. To me, it is much more than just a pump token.

Two or three years from now, I think we will look back on these leo prices and wish we had bought more.

I think the category should be based on maximum up vote.

On HIVE with 500,000 HP does 1 post upvote automatically make someone a dolphin?

Every time onealfa upvotes he basically creates a new orca (assuming the user powers up the leo of course).

Thanks for doing the maths! :<)

Guess I bought my way to whale status, without knowing it. Awesome!
This was impossible for me, back in the days on Steemit. Probably because I only entered in June 2017 and never had the liquidity to do so.

As I said to @flauwy though, on his post titled LEO whale through hodling from day one, I prefer to be called a tiger shark. Or ( tiger ) whale shark ;<)

Wow, so with my account @claudio83.leo I'm an orca! 😍😍

As a proportion we are there, even if the value of a Hive orca is greater than a LEO. Considering the price of $ 0.11 to get 50k HP a user has to spend about $ 5,500 while getting about 850 LEO at a price of $ 0.17 is about $ 150.

Looks like I am an Orca in the LEO sea, which in Hive it would take me light years to reach it. Love to see the levels brought up back again to the community as I always wonder where I am staying and what kind of fish I am.

Updated numbers and thank you very much for also presenting the status of Hive. For days I searched and never found an article that explained the amount needed for each level.

The cool thing is also watching people happy and surprised to find out that they are Orcas and LEO Whales in the community. I have no doubt that this will further motivate them to move on.

This shows how early we are in. What LEO is today is what STEEM was soon after it released. Those who missed out being whales on STEEM can have a second chance on LEO. You are the second person who recently posted about this. @d-zero did some calculations and came up with almost the same numbers. He used 6.156 million as LEO Token supply:

https://leofinance.io/hive-167922/@d-zero/7694-more-leo-and-i-ll-be-a-whale-this-is-how-to-calculate-hierarchy-on-leo

Gamification definitely works!

It would be really interesting to see this sort of formula adopted and used across all the more "serious" second layer communities. I realize LeoFinance is the "talk of the town" at the moment... but having these sorts of "interest generating tools" may be just the sort of thing that's needed to raise interest in other communities.

Bottom line, people love to see how they are doing inside greater contexts, and and (strangely enough) statistics are one of the things that make platforms "sticky." By which I mean, people suddenly develop a psychological attachment to how they are doing.

=^..^=
