I bought a Splinterlands Summoner's Spellbook | Let's Play2Earn

I've seen the Splinterlands hype for quite some time now, but never bought a spellbook

When talking about Splinterlands in the past, I usually heard that that the rewards were (unless investing big) low, and not really interesting for a player that will not be spending hours a day on the game. For those that have invested in packs, and those that master the game, this was another story, but I'm not (yet lol) one of them. At one point something changed though, I noticed the $BRO #dividends were also paying out $SPT & $SPS tokens. I knew that the SPS tokens were distributed thanks to the new year-long airdrop and that @brofund is heavily invested so until now, I've just been enjoying the micropayments that were dropped in my Hive Engine wallet. I still didn't consider buying the spellbook at this point as I assumed that those with huge accounts are the ones getting rich and profiting from the airdrop while the smaller players will see the amount of SPS dropped decline fast. This was all assumption by the way, not based on anything else but comparison with some yield farms.

More and more exciting chatter about @splinterlands

The airdrop stories I read and heard were insane, and almost hard to believe. I mean, it's probably only because I've had my own experience of receiving the Uni airdrop and knowing how huge the bag of free money can be that I could grab my head around it. Some people have become instantly wealthy overnight probably with the rising price of DEC. I decided that I would have to start collecting DEC myself, and not only by buying it, but also by playing. I decided the time has come to purchase the spellbook, costing $10.

Packs.. sold out

I can only buy packs on the secondary market, and honestly, that's just way out of my price league, so I won't consider that. I read that soon the presale for Chaos Legion (the new series) will start and that you will receive coupons that make you eligible to buy a pack. Although I found the information in a Tweet, not the official message, I don't know if it's correct, but apparently, for every staked $SPS token you will receive one voucher that will also be tradable on the secondary market.

I will defo buy packs once Chaos Legion is out unless the prices are going to be 2000 DEC like they were before, which is a small fortune nowadays, at least, too much for me to take the gamble and hope for the best. As I just created an account, I will most likely buy packs once they go live, and not in the presale. I may consider selling the vouchers, in case I will receive any that is.

Playing with the cards that come with the spellbook

For now, I don't own more than 1 card, as I only earned that one yet so far by completing the daily quest. So I'm stuck with the free cards for now:

I have to admit, that I haven't done much reading into the rules, lol. I was like, let me just try and see if I can figure it out myself. I did ask for a bit of advice from a friend but I have to admit that it's hard to grab my head around all the info and it seems that it's just not that important yet in the novice and bronze league. But maybe I'm completely wrong here. I will see how it goes. So far my luck has been nice, I think I understand the order of the monsters quite well and the so-called buffs from the summoners. It can make quite the difference using another summoner with the same lineup. I was happy to find this doc on the Splinterlands website, which will most likely be of some assistance at least.

I already discovered some cool things

Like the weekly art contests from @splinterlands, where you can win booster packs? I first thought I must have misread this, but it seems that they are giving away boosters from the previous series? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm defo going to think about creating an artwork for the contest.

There's also a share your battle contest, which sounds like I can learn from it if I study the entries. So I'm going to consider entering those too sometimes.

The social media challenge is a no-brainer as I share all my content there, I will keep in mind the rules for those challenges so that I will hopefully win something one day or receive an upvote.

Splinterlands is bringing in many possibilities to earn cryptocurrency

And I truly love that! It's making me laugh out loud when I see those memes on social media where they talk about the kid that was always playing games but is now filthy rich in his or her teen years. Many people would have said it's not good for a child, but what if these kids have partially seen the true monetary value/potential of these games all along?

You can earn DEC by playing games, although that's not much when you play with the free cards like I'm doing currently, BUT I already read that you can also get lucky and open a legendary card in the daily quest reward chest, that may be worth 40 bucks or a chest filled with a lot of DEC. I will just hope for that to happen soon!

What I do love, is that even new players like me are included in the daily airdrop, we just missed the first X days of the drop, but every day there is a new snapshot taken to calculate your daily SPS share of the airdrop. I honestly still can't believe that this is a thing, an airdrop that lasts a full year.. Insane, but awesome!

I can't wait for my first season to end, hopefully, I find something nice, although I know the chances aren't that big with just a few chests to open..

My plan is

To create a passive income for at least the remainder of the year while the $SPS airdrop is still active. I know that I have to start with an empty deck, but I feel it's still worth it. I'm going to stake the airdropped tokens and earn YIELD from that. Even though it will probably decrease more each day/week, I feel it's still well-worth stepping in.

Meanwhile, I will also publish Splinterlands content (hopefully 2x a week) so that I can earn some extra SPT tokens if I'm lucky to receive a vote for my post. When Chaos legion goes live, I can start building a deck, that's hopefully also suitable to rent out cards in the future as I think at some point, I may be more interested in renting out cards than playing the game. :)

I'm so happy that I got introduced to the crypto space, and now know that you can #play2earn by playing @splinterlands #game.

I accidentally published on my LEO curation account, oops :) Now considering publishing the splinterlands content on this account from now on, but let's see how it goes.. I accidentally published on my LEO curation account, oops :) Now considering publishing the splinterlands content on this account from now on, but let's see how it goes..

My main is the account without the .leo :)
