My uses for ETH have mainly been for logging into websites, transfers, and buying ERC-20 tokens. Although, fees have turned me off on transfers and tokens. Hopefully ETH2 is a better experience.
I did accidentally make a couple thousand dollars with ETH. I bought it soon after launch and sold it a few days before all time high. But, this was dumb luck.
I think it has staying power.

Yeah there needs to be a lot of change in terms of user experience. I'm with you in that the fees turn me off from using the network frequently. I utilize the network for necessary transactions and keep the size big enough to warrant the fee costs, but it definitely hinders the growth of ethereum to have a UX like that.
