#handpouredmonday - why it's perfectly acceptable to pay double the price of silver

So what does "Sunflower", "The scream", "Mona Lisa" and #handpouredmonday all have in common??

"Probably not a lot", I hear you saying... But what if I told you you are seriously mistaken. OK, hear me out! Yes, the first three are multimillion pound works of art, painted by some of the world best know artists, and #handpouredmonday is just a box of silver, but I consider both to be art. All four will only ever increase in value as time goes by.

Over the past few weeks, I've brought you the odd occasional "original" piece of blogging, and covered a selection of the silver I have in my community pour box.

I've had a few questions regarding the price I paid for my poured silver and why I would (in some cases) pay more than double "SPOT price" for what technically is just silver??

So let's go back to those amazing paintings.... What gives them value?

• The artists ability to paint
• The fact they are a one-off
• The popularity of the artist

All interesting points, and I'm pretty sure we could all rattle off at least 5 others. So now, why don't you apply them to silver!!

So when comparing silver, it's not just its intrinsic silver content value, it's everything that piece has to offer.

Who poured it?, How many were made?, Does the pourer have any skill?, Can you trust that person to only have used the highest quality silver(pure silver)?

I love the look of the American Silver Eagle, but comparing them to individual handpoured works of art would be an injustice.....

Silver eagles highly trusted are recognised the world over, yet are one of the cheapest government silver coins to purchase. Why is that?? Simply because they churn out tens of millions of identical pieces every year.

2019 steem silver round

Compare that to say the 2019 #steemsilverround, which had a limited mintage of just 1500, 1oz, silver rounds. Add on top of that the fact that the SSR are a part of a incredibly small series of rounds - 3 yrs only, and you have the potential to increase in value as them become more and more desirable as they become scarcer and scarcer.

Now you can start to understand why individually poured, one-off, silver works of art can begin to fetch big bucks. My @BACKYARDBULLION, "BYB", 1oz, bar set is a great example of what I believe will offer me a fantastic rerun on investment in a couple of years time. My community chest is filled with different pourers, but it is only backyardbullion that offers the "hallmark" seal of assurance on all his work. His work is guaranteed to be of the purest quality by the Edinburgh assay office. This makes his work incredibly desirable and easy to sell on in the future.

Add on to that the serial number of 11 which I managed to pick up. A low serial number will also make silver more appealing to collectors.

I hope you'll agree that these reasons make poured silver art?? And art is collectable, therfore paying more than spot price for it is acceptable and actually makes perfect sense....
