Not Everything Is As It Seems

Oh did you like my title. I bet it got you hooked right into this post so I can't disappoint you now can I. The title is actually creatively linked to my thoughts on whether good people can do bad things and bad people can do good things.

(I tried to make something creative here too with my photo lol not sure it's good though)

To answer this, I strongly believe good people can do bad things and bad people can do good things. Of course what is good and what is bad can be open to interpretation but for simplicity reasons we can just go with what a majority would think. I will provide some examples to show you that it's possible and you can argue with me in the comments if you think I'm wrong.

Let's first look at good people doing bad things. I consider myself a good person; I was even know as a "guai kid" among the Chinese families. Guai is a cantonese word for well-behaved. I was that typical Asian that had all A's and stuff up until high school. I never did any drugs, clubbing or smoke etc. However, I can say I did bad things maybe people never knew about it. I skipped class before, I cheated on tests before, I did get into fights with my brother when I was younger etc. I would consider these bad things and if put into a situation where I would have to do bad things to protect the people I care about I would definitely play the bad guy. With that being said, I still think I'm a good person even though I chose to do these bad things.

Let's look at another example that helps further support my argument. I want to talk about scammers. Some of these scammers are actually good people. They got kidnapped and basically got put into a situation where they had to scam people in order to survive. There's no way you can call these people bad because they were basically coerced into doing something bad.

Now let's look at the other side of the spectrum. If good people can do bad things, why can't bad people do good things. I want to share some extreme real life examples because even I learned some new things about this today!

Let's take a look at Ted Bundy. This guy was a serial killer and killed a ton of people. This guy actually worked at a suicide hotline. Isn't that ironic, this guy is out here killing people but helping convince people to not kill themselves. I think this is the strange part of human nature. If we know we are doing something bad, we try to do good things to help get rid of that guilt sometimes.

Another new thing I learned today was about Suddam Hussein. I knew he was bad and did horrible things such as killing, imprisoning, raping etc. To my surprise though, he actually did something good for Iraq as well. He pushed a National Campaign for the Eradication of Illiteracy. This campaign basically gave free education up to the university levels which is amazing. This is totally a great thing as education is definitely important to the growth of a country.

In conclusion, there's definitely cases where good people can do bad things and bad people can do good things. Doing a good or bad thing is a choice that people make or forced to make. It doesn't necessarily have to link to whether they are a good or bad person.

That's where not everything is as it seems comes into play. You may think you know somebody but you really don't (think Ted Bundy everyone thought he was a good person). People will only let you see what they want you to see. We can see this in our blogs, social media, etc.

Personally for me I've been quite genuine and transparent but not everybody is like this. I'm not trying to scare anybody but this is just the reality of what we call life. I hope I was able to enlighten you on this topic and you were able to learn something new. Have a great weekend everybody!
