Memories of You

A little late night poem from me to you. I hope it finds you well.

Every night I empty my heart
But before dawn it's full again
I awake to the sound of your laughter
Only to realise it's just a dream
My fingers tingle for yours
My soul yearns to know you once again

I fight myself each day
I try to get rid of your scent
Little traces you left behind
From our short time together
But my senses betray me each time
I reach for you even in my sleep

My mornings make me remember what we shared
The lights filtering in
The smell of coffee
Swaying curtains reminds me
Of your gentle caresses on my skin
And your soft whispers in my ears

My heart thumps painfully in my chest
As I turn, wishing you are here
Your side of the bed is so cold
The soft pillows feel like a log under my head
I can see your mass of tangled hair
The way I run my fingers through them

Day and night I long for you
The brightness of your smile
Your warm breath on my neck
I listen for the sound of your feet
Halting, even when you tiptoe
I want you so much it hurts

I can't forget how happy we were
I miss the contentment
Why am I fighting when I know where to find you?
You'll be waiting for me
With so much love to give
Willing to forgive everything
Why am I looking for excuses?

I see former lovers in every line. It's a beautiful expression of yearning and unquenched desires. How you know to pen my fellow poet ♥️
