Adopted Gift

Gift was adopted by Solomon and his wife Grace when they were looking for a child since Grace couldn't conceive. They both agreed to adopt a child and Gift was the perfect child they wanted. She is tall, beautiful and intelligent. The couple loved Gift but everything changed the moment Grace conceived some years after.

One morning, Gift was washing plates in the kitchen. A glass cup slipped from her hand and it broke.

"Arrrh, am finished. Mummy will kill me today," Gift said to herself immediately after the cup landed on the ground.
Meanwhile, Grace heard the way the crash on the ground so she went to see what was happening.

"Like seriously? Did you break my glass cup? Did you even know how much that cost? I bet you don't because you are not born with a silver spoon," Grace shouted as she moved closer to beat Gift up. Gift was also moving back to escape whatever Grace wanted to do to her and she mistakenly steps on the broken glass on the floor.

"Owwww" Gift said slowly and then mumbled immediately the broken glass slipped through her slippers and then hurt her leg. Grace didn't care what was wrong and started beating her while Gift's leg was bleeding.

"What is going on here?" Her husband asked from the kitchen entrance. Gift wanted to explain but Grace hijacked the words from her.

"She broke my favorite glass cup, the one I bought from the UK on our honeymoon," Grace said all that to make the issue worse but Solomon knew the kind of person his wife was so he didn't side with her.

"But that doesn't mean you should kill this girl. Look she's bleeding," Solomon replied as he entered the kitchen, he took Gift to the hospital afterward.

"Really? Solo is that all you could say to this matter? Oh, I get it you don't like me and the baby am carrying again," Grace was still talking but Solomon didn't bother answering her.

He took Gift to the hospital and on their way back he asked,"What really happened?" Solomon asked.

"I was washing and the glass cup slipped from my hand," Gift replied with tears in her eyes.

"Sorry you had to go through all that from your mother, but you should be more careful next time ok?" Solomon tried to make Gift forgive his wife for maltreating her.

"Honey am home," Solomon said as he helped Gift into the sitting room.

"Hey babe," Grace greeted from the dining table while rubbing her baby bumps and she didn't bother asking about how Gift was doing.

"Babe you didn't even bother asking about Gift," Solomon replied Grace.

Gift wasn't delighted with the way Grace reacted to Solomon and she didn't want to cause trouble for them. So she managed to drag herself into her room.

The maltreatment went on for years and after Grace gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, she increased her hatred for Gift and Solomon noticed that Gift was going to get hurt by the way his wife kept treating her.

Solomon took Gift out of the house and rented an apartment for her immediately she clocked 18 and Gift was delighted to live alone. Solomon didn't stop sponsoring Gift education and after she finished her university, Solomon told her never to come home. Gift on the other side was delighted with the way Solomon treated her so she promised to be successful so that she could reciprocate the help someday.

Years passed, Solomon wasn't rich again because he was scammed, and his wife was seriously sick and they couldn't afford hospital treatment. Their son was home because they couldn't afford school fees, meanwhile, Gift got a job at a big company immediately after she finished university and was living a beautiful life.

"Knock! Knock!!," Gift said at the entrance, but Solomon and his wife didn't recognize Gift's voice again so Solomon stood to get to the door only to see Gift standing at the entrance.
"Daddy," Gift shouted and gave him a tight hug before they went back inside.

"For real? Gift is this really you? Since all this year where have you been?" Solomon asked a series of questions
Gift looked around and noticed that they were not booming like they were before so she asked, "Dad what's going on? This house looks somehow".

"Daughter, see a lot has happened since you left, and am glad you didn't end up like us," Solomon replied with his eyes full of tears that were ready to rush down his cheek. "What about Mom?" Gift asked.

"I am right here, Gift please forgive me I know I have wronged you so much but you just need you to forgive me," Grace said while she was ready to kneel for Gift. But Gift didn't allow her to kneel for her.

"Mom don't do that, I have forgiven you the moment I made up my mind to come back here," Gift said and she was delighted that her mother accepted that she was wrong and asked for forgiveness.

Some days later Gift took Grace to the hospital for a better treatment and she took her brother back to school. Some months later she set up her father Solomon with a small business and Solomon was delighted to have Gift as his first daughter even though she was adopted.

Perhaps we could call this the rejected stone that turned out to be the cornerstone. Good script here. You successfully carried your readers along despite the briefs on some part of your script

Thanks for the beautiful comment, yeah we could actually called a rejected stone because the girl Grace rejected happens to be their only helper.

Forgiveness is a noble heart! Thank goodness Grace changed her position in the end. It is ugly that we treat people badly and even less so if they are our children, even if they are adopted. Greetings

I wonder how she Grace could do that to a child she agreed to adopt but then am glad she seek for forgiveness at the end.

The girl has a big heart indeed to forgive her mom. Such things are common in our world, where couple adopts s child and the wife starts to mistreat the child because it's not hers. It's always sad. Nice story!

Yeah people do that a lot but it shouldn't be like that everyone in life is important even though they are not your family.

I couldn't help but feel connected to the characters, especially Gift, who was adopted by Solomon and Grace after they couldn't conceive. I appreciate how the story taught me the importance of forgiveness and understanding through Gift's decision to forgive her adoptive mother. And it's beautiful to see how Solomon and Grace's love for Gift never wavered, even during their difficult times.

Life is simple and we should all live a simple life, that was why Grace forgive her because holding grudges against her mother will only fill her heart up with hatred which is not right.

Mr Solomon was really a good man, if not Grace would have killed Gift. To err is human and to forgive is divine, right! It is a good thing Gift forgave her mother. What happened to them was Karma and that is to say that, we should not maltreat people because of where we are or for whatsoever reason at all, we don't know where life will hang us tomorrow.

Yeah I totally agree that it was karma that happened to them due to Grace attitude towards Gift.
Thanks for stopping by sis.

This is a story that is both painful and a delight to read. The scene where Gift cuts her foot is vivid. You do well to offer that, because it is an example of 'show, don't tell'. We feel sympathy for Gift and anger for Grace (an odd name for someone who lacks this quality).

Solomon, of course, redeems the story and saves Gift. It is because of his kindness probably that Gift grows to be a compassionate, forgiving adult.

There are some issues of style in this story, @princess-dara, some instances of incorrect grammar/usage. However, the story was still a pleasure to read.

Nice job.

This is a definition of what goes around comes around. Thank goodness Gift came back. Grace didn't have any clue what the future holds for the little girl. Gift is kind and has a forgiving heart after going through those torture.
