Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the launch of The Ink Well's Fast and Furious Festival!

Twenty days of fast and furious writing, reading and commenting and having fun. Every day for twenty days, there will be a new prompt focusing on a different aspect of writing each day from character development and dialogue to style and setting and everything in between.

By the end of the Festival, you will have carried out twenty fast-paced assignments providing you with ideas and raw material for your story-telling over the next year. You will also have lots of fun, meet new people, build your social network and earn tips for your posts and comments.

We suggest that you put aside the equivalent of an hour each day - 25 minutes for writing your post in response to the prompt, 25 minutes for reading and commenting on other people's posts and 10 minutes for linking your post and comments in a comment on the prompt post.

You can join the Festival at any time during the twenty days and respond to as many of the prompts as you want (prizes for completing all twenty), and do all your comments in one day each week if you want to - it's up to you!

Remember to vote for this post and follow @theinkwell.

DEADLINE FOR ALL POSTS AND COMMENTS: 9 FEBRUARY 2021

Rules of Entry

There is no minimum or maximum word count. We suggest that you allow 25 minutes each day to write your post. You can time it if you wish, or keep going beyond the 25 minutes.

  • posts and comments must be in English - please do not include translations in other languages.
  • posts may include one image only which must be properly sourced (you do not have to have an image). Images can be your own, or from a license-free site, such as Pixabay, Unsplash, Pexels or Creative Commons.
  • posts must be published in The Ink Well and include #theinkwell and #fastandfurious as tags. Other tags can be used to describe the prompt (eg #setting #dialogue #character #style #editing) and the type of writing (eg #assignment #fantasy #romance #scifi). Please do not tag other accounts in your post. Tag spam is not acceptable.
  • read and comment on five other posts written in response to the day's prompt (you can do these later).
  • in a comment on each day's prompt post:
    • include a link to your post.
    • include links to the comments you've made on five other posts (you can come back and add these later).

Simples! (Can you see why it's called fast and furious)?

Rewards for Comments

The main focus of the Fast and Furious Festival will be rewarding interaction between members when they read and comment on each other's posts.

Reading other writers and reflecting on how they have used language or achieved certain effects really builds your skill as a writer. We are looking for comments that show what you have noticed or learned from the post you are reading.

We also want to have a lively supportive community with lots of interaction and commenting that attracts new writers and readers to The Ink Well. Remember to be gentle and constructive with your comments.

Commenting may take a few days to get going, as people start to write their posts, but that's okay. Come back and check for new posts and links on prompt posts and add your comments later.

You can also comment in response to other comments to say whether you agree or disagree or whether you noticed something different. If you are able to get a whole conversation going on a post, that would be excellent!

Try to get around to everyone over the course of the twenty days, so that everyone gets some feedback on their posts. This is a great way to build your network and future audience for your stories.

If you haven't already, consider joining @abh12345's Engagement League - you can check how well you are commenting compared to others and you may win some extra goodies.

This is also a great time to build your Hive account:

I just hope to have better time management when it comes to writing after losing track of time lately.

This is a great initiative, and I shall try to join in at least a few times a week 🙂

I think this gives people a fantastic opportunity to develop their creative writing skills in a quick but focused way. I'm still gonna try and get a longer short story posted to theinkwell this month (been on the agenda for some time😉), but these 'fast and furious' prompts will allow for a nice opportunity to post on hive without putting in many hours writing and editing.

Thanks for doing this. Hats off to you 👒 😂

GOOD NIGHT OF COURSE I'M GOING TO PARTICIPATE, HOW NOT TO DO IT IF SINCE THE MONTH OF DECEMBER I WANTED TO BE ABLE TO WRITE HERE, MY HANDS ITCHED, HAHAHAHA.
WHAT I EXPECT FROM THIS FESTIVAL: TO GET THE GREATEST OF THE LEARNINGS DAY BY DAY, I ALSO WANT TO LEARN TO RELATE WITH MY COMPANIONS, I ALSO HOPE THAT WRITING CAN SERVE OTHERS WHO WERE SUBMERGED FROM ALLI, LIKE ME.
THE INK WELL WAS THE BALM THAT I NEEDED, I CAME INTO MY LIFE WHEN I WAS WORST, AND TODAY THANK GOD I AM A RENEWED PERSON WITH MORE ENERGY TO GIVE.
WRITING HAS BECOME MY GREATEST ILLUSION. THANKS AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

I applaud the effort made by the team of the #theinkwell community, highlighting the importance of interaction between writers, that will strengthen the bonds between participants and nurture the contest to be better every day. From the fast and furious festival, I hope to improve my writing and learn from the community writers, in terms of writing styles and methods, I wish success to all participants, Let's Write!

After joining this platform last week, I started searching for a place where I could write creative content and the first time I come across this community was in the renewal contest within some days before their deadline.

I managed to squeeze out some time in order to participate in the contest and I'm happy that I did because it helped me to think wide and come up with a post that was worth the time of anyone that cares to read through.

I would also like to be a part of this festival in order to push myself towards engaging in creative writing on a daily basis. The aspect of making comment is already part of me because I believe that I've made more quality comments within my first week than many have managed to make in 3 months here 🤣. Lolll... That's me blowing my trumpet.

This is my opportunity to read from and and interact with creative writers so, count me in. Who knows, l may also be able to create a niche for myself in this community.

I will also be inviting @kemmyb to be a part of this festival. She is buzzing with creativity 🙄

😂😂I can't believe you did this! So I'm buzzing with creativity, huh!

I'm not surprised you are a part of this festival, you and your mini-post comments have found a new home on Hive. Thanks! I'll read through this piece and see what it's all about!

I will be participating in the Festival, although from a slightly different vantage point than others -- I write every day anyway, but I am looking forward to a new set of challenges in these 20 days, and to also doing a lot more reading in conjunction. I expect there will be a lot of cross-pollination of ideas, so I am sure it is going to be an exciting time!

I MAY try to dazzle y'all with my MICROFICTION skills (I bet NOBODY who reads my epics in these parts thinks I can write in short form ... but you'll see!)

For a while I thought about why the initiative is titled "fast and furious" , maybe fast because, writers are expected to complete a task in 25 minutes each day and furious because we are aiming at the best. - that's just some random thought.

The initiative is great, aside the reward, it has a personal build up into writing and community participation which is one of the goals of this platform. I look forward to give in my best all through the period for the challenge.

I was waiting for this initiative, I love challenges, I can't resist the contests, not to compete with others but with myself, to put pressure on myself and try to grow and advance is what I am looking for.

This is a challenge that attracts me and motivates me to write daily, I resisted to do the daily contests of pure egocentrism, I'm glad they started.

And I'm here to join the challenge, the only thing that worries me is the layout, in that I invest a lot of time. I will try to forget about the justification and focus on the content. Thank you very much.

How exciting! Wonderful to have a dynamic, writing community on Hive that welcomes everyone--not only writers, but readers. Every writer has an audience in mind. What does the audience think? How does the writing impress them? Writers highly value this information. #fastandfurious invites readers and writers to collaborate. This will be fun!

I try to write every day. This exercise proposes a dynamic that is easy to follow and, at the same time, will allow us to explore options and alternatives for our own stories. I'm up for it.

I'm looking forward to participating in Fast and Furious! It will be a wonderful way to support our writing efforts and engagement in our community. No rewards for me, of course, as a member of The Ink Well staff. But I will certainly help to fuel discussions and participation!

This is a a wonderful initiative. I mean, this should help a lot of writers out there who have different challenges as regards writing. I am one of such writers and it's my first day into the festival.
I hope to learn from the assignments given to us. I also look forward to constructive criticisms and reading the works of other authors. Finally, I want to connect with more writers and have fun during the period of writing. I hope that I can improve with the timing so I can meet deadlines in the future. Thank you.
