RE: SURVIVAL TICK

The story is rich in details that bring the scene, and circumstance, to life for us. There are some touches, such as the dog that always smells like feces, that are so evocative they have the value of paragraphs. There is not one direct reference to grief, and yet the sense of grief and loss is overwhelming.

You manage to end the story, such a sad story, with hope. In the midst of sorrow, a dream may come true.
