Drama Queen Mayora: she's not so bad!

Mayora was having her lunch while Charles walked into her class. "Hey Mayora"

"Hey... what are you doing here", she asked quietly.

"You're having lunch alone? What about the..." Mayora cuts in. "Aren't we meant to be strangers in school, why are you talking to me?", she asked rudely.

"Come on, we can at least be friends. It's not that bad. Is it?", he asked and took a seat in front of her.

"Friends? I don't want anyone knowing I'm your step sister and that we now live together", she said.

"Hey... didn't any of the other girls invite you to eat with them? I thought they were around you earlier", Charles said while looking in the direction of the girl at one end of the classroom.

"Nah... they all left me gradually until there was no one left", Mayora said in a firm tone.

"I can imagine. Did you fight with any of them?", Charles asked.

"No but... this morning was a bit weird",

Mayora narrated....

"Hi, you're welcome to our class, the girls said as they gathered around me. "Thank you", I replied

"What's your name?", they asked while smiling in a creepy way.

"I'm Mayora", I answered. "It's nice to meet you all too"

"You're so cute", one of the girls said. "I can imagine that the boys would be all over you", another girl said.

"Tell us, do you have a boyfriend?"

"No, I'm not interested in such"

"Do you use social media? Facebook... Instagram?

"No, I don't like an online presence"

"Do you party?"

"No, I don't"

"Would you like to join our girls club?"

"No, I'm not interested in any of it. Just leave me alone", I said at the top of my voice, and they left.

"Come on you were really harsh. I see why they all left", Charles retorted. "You were picking a fight".

"What fight? Is there anything wrong with what I said?"

"Mayora see...", Charles said as he placed his right hand on her left shoulder.

"Get your hands off me", Mayora said rudely.

"Now you see what I'm saying. My point is you should...". Mayora cuts in without allowing him. "Your hair is still messed up", she said.

"Are you even listening to me?", Charles Said furiously.

"Let me help you with it", Mayora said and leaned forward slightly towards her bag. She pulls out a hair spray and spray it over Charles's hair. She stands over him and began to brush his hair gently until they were all straightened out.

"I think I still it now. She's not so bad but a bit socially awkward and blunt. She simply needs to change the way she says certain things", Charles thought himself.

"Okay... I'm done. Your hair looks better now. You no longer look like a cow", she said with a creepy smile on her face.

"Thank you"

"Thank your stars I'm in a good mood"

"You call this good mood? Anyway, what I'm saying is... you need to change the way you say certain things. It may not be intentional but you're chasing people away with your words. You indirectly told those girls you don't wanna be friends with them", Charles said.

"I understand but don't expect everyone to be the same"

"I know, yeah", Charles replied.

"Tulip makes friends easily but it’s not like that with me. It never goes well each time", Mayora said in a low tone with her head bowed down in remorse.

"I have an idea", Charles said.

"What?", she replied.

"I'm going to act like I'm one of your classmates and try to initiate a conversation"

"Whatttt?"

"Can you stop saying 'what' each time. It pushes people away", Charles said and grinned.

"Alright, I'd try not to"

"So, I'd act like I'm one of your classmates and I'd come up to you to start a conversation. So make sure you play along and try to be nice. Okay?

"Okay", Mayora replied with a fake smile. Charles took a few steps backwards and walked back towards Mayora while acting like a girl.

"Hi Mayora, how are you today?" He said in a girlish voice. Mayora looked at him with disgust. "When did you become a lady?", she said rudely.

"Grrr! I'm just acting. Try to be human for once in your life. You see you're squeezing your face again, at least smile", Charles said in a frustrated tone.

"Alright fine. let's begin again", Mayora said with a forced smile.

"Hi Mayora, how are you today?", Charles said in a masculine voice.

"I'm fine thanks", Mayora replied.

"Tell me, what do you do in your spare time?"

"Books. I read books whenever I'm less busy", she replied with a straight face.

"Try to smile", Charles said.

"But I'm trying to"

"It's a fake. It's needs to be genuine. So, tell me, what kind of books do you read?"

"Even if I told you, you wouldn't know it",

"That's now how to keep conversation going and don't try to make the other person look dumb", Charles replied.

"Is this how stressful it is to keep a friend?", Mayora asked with frustration written all over her.

"I'm going act like you responded properly and will keep the conversation going", Charles said and continued. "Wow! I also love reading Star Wars whenever I'm less busy", he said while describing a light sabre.

"I know Star Wars. So, you enjoy reading a book about people fighting with coloured candy bars?", Mayora says and laughed creepily.

"Hey, you don't laugh at other people's interests and opinion. Are you even trying to make the person you're talking to like you? At this rate nobody would like to be friends you", Charles said with his voice raised which got everyone's attention.

"I'm only being honest it doesn't matter how it's received. I won't tell lies", Mayora replied.

"I'm not saying you should lie; I'm only saying you should be more considerate. You should try to talk in a way that makes the other person feel good"

"Are you saying I should sound more like a customer care representative or a air hostess?"

"I never said so. Besides, I wouldn't pay money only to be treated by a hostess like you".

"The bill is a hundred dollars sir", Mayora said smiling.

"Hundred dollars for talking to you? That's a total rip off. I can't pay such amount and be spoken to without respect"

"What? You got a problem with the money? I'm gonna have call security. Hey! Security, this man here has refused pay his bills"

"Stop it already, you're going off point", Charles said. "It's enough", he shouted out loud in frustration.

The entire class laughed and gathered around then. "Charles you're such a nice person", one of the girls said while blushing. "And Mayora is a drama queen, another said while smiling.

"Let's be friends", another girl said…. "let's be friends... ", "let's be friends...", another said, and another and another until she was surrounded by everyone in class.

"We didn't know you were this friendly. We apologise for concluding without getting to know you", the girls said.

"I... I..", Mayora was short of words. "I'd like to be friends with you too", she said in a calm tone and put her head down in shyness.

"You don't need to be shy. We're all friends as from today", said one of the girls, and they all laughed.

"Thank you", she said to Charles silently and winked at him.

"Don't mention it", he replied. "I guess I gotta return to my class now. I'd leave you girls alone. Make sure you have some fun, he said and walked out of the classroom with a smile on his face.
