How would you explain the hive blockchain to a layman?

Greetings to my esteemed friends on the #Question&Answer community and the entire hive blockchain. It's another day and time to share with you how to explain what we do here on the hive blockchain. It's your friend @faquan, saying hello from this part of the world.

It's just obvious that the hive blockchain is many things to many people and everyone will explain what it means to them from the areas they're benefitting from the blockchain.

What is Hive Blockchain?

Hive is an innovative and forward-looking decentralized blockchain and ecosystem, designed to scale with widespread adoption of the currency and platforms in mind. By combining the lightning-fast processing times and fee-less transactions, Hive is positioned to become one of the leading Web3 blockchains used by people around the world.Source

Hive blockchain to me is blockchain that helps different communities promote or present what they can offer users and also a blogging site that rewards users (content creation and investors) with $HIVE and $HBD after a seven days period. The reward is divided into 50/50 compartments of which one goes to the author, while the other half goes to the curator(s). The author's reward is further divided into Hive and HBD, while the Hive moves immediately into what is known as Hive Power (HP) and the HBD (Hive Backed Dollar) becomes the liquid one can withdrew or put into savings.

One of the challenges faced by newbies on the hive blockchain is the fact that most of them don't know prior to onboarding into the blockchain that plagiarism is an offence that attracts punishment on the blockchain.

Plagiarism simply means any source that isn't given due referencing. The hive blockchain believes that users should create original contents, while those points that are lifted should be properly sourced with the link where the source is lifted from.

The hive blockchain is blessed with over hundred commumities and Web 3 Dapps that has helped the blockchain to develop to what it is today. dApps such as #peakD, #Splinterlands, as well as the #LeoFinance ecosystem. Others include, #threespeak (hive's video platform) and #blocktrades (hive's on-chain trading platform).

What else can you add to the aforementioned things that we do on the hive blockchain?

This is a good question to ask and a good question for we Hivers to think about. It would be helpful to have that 30 second explanation in the back of our minds for when the question comes up from a friend, "Hey, what's a blockchain? Do you use that stuff?"

The answer to "What's Hive?" likely depends on how much the person knows prior. I guess who'd need to get a sense first. If they're a total layman, I say something like, "Hive is a place to write your thoughts as blog posts. That's really nothing new, however you earn cryptocurrency when you do that. You don't get that on Twitter!"

Then, go from there.

Thanks for dropping this important fact and I'm in love with this point by you:

Truly what we learn on the hive blockchain and other layer 2 tokens isn't gotten on Twitter.

Thanks once again for stopping by.

You're welcome, I'll like to ask you how you're coping with the blockchain and what area do you need clarity. Please avoid, copying someone's work with proper reference.

it is quite tricky to explain bout hive to the newbie. because if we explain social media, they might choose facebook or other social media instead because the fear of getting punished for reposting other's work is not so severe as itis on hive.

You're right, they'll prefer other social media platforms to hive blockchain because they won't be able to cope with it. Although, with constant training and education about the hive blockchain and how it can help them earn passive income, they'll understand.

That's a good question. I give it a thorough answer in my new book Web3 Social: How Creators Are Changing the World Wide Web (And You Can Too!), which is currently in the top 10 in two different Amazon categories and trending toward No. 1. In the book, I give a history of the Internet, social media, and blockchain technology with the aim to showing that the Web started out as a decentralized asset that nobody owns and controls but has turned into a collage of walled gardens thanks to Web2 legacy social media platforms. Then I explain the benefits to decentralization for creators.

In Chapter 20, I give an overview of major Web3 social media projects, including Hive. As a summary, I explain it this way:

One of the ways Hive succeeds is by using decentralization as a backbone for dapp launches. Like Steemit, it offers multiple different interfaces for posting to the blockchain. If you don’t like one, you can use another.

Additionally, Hive is home to several social gaming platforms, including Splinterlands, one of the most popular NFT trading games in Web3.

Hive Keychain and Hivesigner both make it easy to sign into Hive using private keys while still maintaining personal browser security. These browser extensions require users to sign a digital signature to log in, post, comment, and take other actions on the blockchain.

Through Hive Engine, users can create their own tokens and smart contracts on the Hive blockchain. There are currently more than 700 different Hive tokens in circulation, and Hive has its own market for trading and swapping those tokens.

To make it even shorter, I explain to readers that Hive is a decentralized blogging platform where writers and readers can earn from interacting while other types of creators, such as video creators, musicians, podcasters, graphic artists, etc. can do the same while their admirers earn for interacting with their creators. It's a win-win-win for developers, creators, and fans.

This is awesome and I'm glad you came up such an amazing work. I'm very happy to read your explanation and truth be told, I'll still go through the comments to get some topics to write for the benefits of newbies.

Thanks a million
