K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) The Joy of a Ball ⚽ The Most Basic Toy of All

K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) is an acronym I learned in my mountaineering days, and I still apply this mountaineering logic to my daily life, even though I haven't set foot on a mountain in years.

Balls Are Never Out Of Fashion ⚽

With all the modern screen-based toys of today, it gets harder and harder to get kids out of the house and under the sun. With this in mind, whenever I hear my daughters mention playing with the ball, I always make sure to join them if I'm free.

It is good to know kids still enjoy having old-fashioned fun like this, and the beauty of this occasion caused me to snap some shots of this joy instead of joining in.

The sun was setting, and it provide some beautiful light, so I was a bit captivated by daughters' joy, the background animals, and the whole scenery in general. Then all of a sudden I was reminded of an acronym from my mountaineering days, K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid).

In mountaineering, I used this principle to make everything redundant and safe. Our life here in Suriname and our struggle has been a very complicated one, but we've still tried to maintain our simple way of life.

It was a ball day for all it turns out, because even the landlord was playing fetch with her dogs and a tennis ball. Seeing the girls play reminds me they've shown some interest in sports.

I think Srey-Yuu would be a natural volleyball player, and I hope if we make it to the USA, she can have some opportunities like this. Monkey-B has shown she has some football/soccer talent, and I'd love to see her give team play a try.

The little yellow soccerball featured in these shots is one Sakana and I bought together on a Dad and daughter bike trip to the city. It caught Monkey-B's attention in a store, plus I already wanted a ball to kick around for exercise, so it was a win-win for the whole family.

Honestly we cannot separate passion away from football. Irrespective of the fact cash is not really involved yet people still keep it so simple and play under sun and rain.

I think passion is football and football is passion

True words, all that is needed is a little air, a ball to hold it, and a foot to kick it, and endless fun can be had. Luckily our youths are learning how to play on rocky and uneven ground, and this will make the perfectly manicured fields in the USA seem very easy to play on. Blessings from Suriname my friend.

Good old football is my favorite sport to play. Would be nice to go back to the days of playing as a child. I recall spending hours on the weekend and after school playing by myself and with my neighbors

I have many good football memories too, and currently reliving some with the youths. Funny sidenote - my little farmtown formed our first soccer/football team in my second year of highschool, and we were so small in numbers it had to be a co-ed team. I didn't have a problem with it, but we played exclusively all-boy teams, and some of these cornfed farmboys would occasionally shoulder-check our girls as if they were grown men.

We got beat sometimes as bad 22-0, but I guess it made me a much better player in the end.

Lol. There are so many lessons that can be learned by playing team sports.
22-0 is really a huge loss though I do recall having having one game with a similar outcome in primary/elementary school.

It's interesting how things have changed over the years. Things that were considered unusual in the past are normal today.

Nice pics!Srey-Yuu got tall!😀
What will you do, if the US demands for you & your family to get
"vaccinated" to enter..??

She's growing up way too fast. To get out of Suriname to anywhere in the world pretty much means getting poked. I was trying to wait until full FDA approval before succumbing, but we are living in a hellish state, and we need get our lives started again.

Also, I recently discovered that even though the family has had vaccinations for TB, measles, and all the other typical stuff, they'll have to do these things all over again and get certified vaccination paperwork from a US Embassy approved doctor in Guyana. There are still thousands of dollars between us and "freedom," whatever that word means anymore.

Bless up my friend, more time.

This is really nice, you did a great job taking the motion pictures though. I am sure my shot would have been blurry because of the movement

I am happy your children love to play football and volleyball even with the advent of technology and modern game

You are seeing a talent in the field in them already, I think you should go ahead and let them train for it. From there you will see where it goes, and yes, both Srey-Yuu and monkey-B may be able to make it to USA

A few of the pics came out blurry, but I was only snapping pics with my phone, so I didn't expect good results. I did try to wait for the ball to come to an apex before snapping, and this strategy mostly worked. It is so important these days to make sure kids do real physical things instead of just using their eyes and fingers to interact with screens.

In the USA we'll have more opportunities because I have many friends with cars who could transport them. Also, I will have a better chance at employment there, and this will help us to live a better life than we are now, which is surviving from Western Union and foraging, a life we are tired of living.

Thanks for the kind words my friend.

It came out really good, you didn't even have to bother

It is so important these days to make sure kids do real physical things instead of just using their eyes and fingers to interact with screens.

Sincerely, I agree with you

Oh, this is great news

Don't worry, sir, everything will be fine... Soon

Thanks for the kind words my friend.

You are welcome, sir

This made me smile!

Aside from stuff to draw with and draw on, a soccer ball has always been my favorite toy/ present as a kid and these (Satur)days I'm reawakening that inner child by playing soccer.

( Let's ) keep enjoying the small and simple things!

Art-related things are a big favorite of our kids as well, but supplies are limited here, and much more so is our transportation situation. I'm enjoying passing on my love of soccer to Monkey-B, who has a pretty mean foot I must say. Thanks for stopping by my friend, and let's keep keeping it simple.

Glad to see the children have fun and a happy dad take pictures to make memories for the family. I hardly see kids play outside these days. Covid has made it impossible, but even before covid there weren't many children playing outdoors.

Yeah, if the kids aren't stuck inside because of COVID fears, they are stuck to their screens. Luckily my daughters still have some interest in the outdoors and physical play. Thanks for stopping by my friend.

It's hard to see in the last photo you shared, but Monkey-B took a stick and carved out some impromptu hopscotch squares. I think both of these girls have natural sport talent, but my specialties are table tennis and soccer. I didn't realize how good I was at table tennis until I easily defeated my Chinese boss at a school I used to work at in Cambodia.

Unfortunately there are no ping-pong halls in Suriname, so unless you got money to buy a table and a place to put it, no table tennis for you in Suriname. I do hope to give Srey-Yuu some volleyball opportunities if/when we get to the USA. Shame volleyball is considered a man's sport in Cambodia, still kind of taboo for the ladies to play it.
