What will you do if you don't like your gift?

Hey there, Hivians.

I ask myself this question every year.

Let's say you got a gift from once you love, no matter a friend or a wife/husband, child, parents, etc. Not just a souvenir but a birthday gift or anniversary gift or ... let's say a valuable gift. And you don't like it. So you feel sorry for the presenter who wasted much money, or you know she/he did the best to please you. If you say "I don't like it" you may hurt them. So...

What is the right thing to do? What would you do?

Not to let it show on your face (and encourage it to happen again)? Say the truth (and how)?

Tomorrow is my birthday. And I am not sure, should I be myself and honest in "my day" or care about feelings of those who love me?

My advice is, accept the gift what ever it is and say thank you... Appreciate all the things that came from them because maybe this is the only thing they have that can make you smile from their idea or according to their budget or their capability to gave you a gift. 🙏

You should be honest and tell the truth to the presenter in such a way that he will not feel offended.

First of al Happy Birthday to you.
I think you should appreciate whatever gift you get whether you like it or not. Selecting a perfect gift is never easy its the gesture that counts and be happy with it. Not only that brings positivity from your side, it also makes the other person happy as well.

you just accept it and say thanks. if it is a person that loves it's the action that it matters. Also, a tip for next time is to say throughout the year about things that you like and hopefully some of those people will keep the info and next birthday you will have a present that you like

Thank you, @filotasriza3. It seems that yesterday I was probably too emotional, now I think you all are right. It just ... my daughter has a very small income, but tried to buy me something expensive. I understand she wants to feel grown-up and independent but my heart aches every time I think how much she put in efforts to gain money.
I will take your advice and try to find a good time to talk to her during a year.

Я мабуть подякувала б , і постаралась би не показати своє розчарування, але зробила б висновок, що моє спілкування з донькою протягом року було недостатнім, якщо вона не знала який подарунок мене зробить щасливою )

Спілкування з дітьми - справа дійсно не завжди проста. А спілкування на відстані - тим більше...
Та і ми не завжди чуємо, не завжди розуміємо натяки.
