Butter Up!

This year, I told myself I would try out new things since Covid managed to derail the entire last year. For one, I wanted to try out different toiletry products. Why? That's a byproduct of staying home thanks to the pandemic.

In the past, I've always used Barbasol as my go-to shaving cream. It's available in most stores around where I live and it's affordable. They come in 10-ounce bottles and cost about $8 or so.

As an experiment, I picked up one of Dollar Shave Club's shave butter. If you aren't familiar with the brand, it's all about toiletries and I've been a subscriber for years. They advertise their products for men, but I know ladies who enjoy the brand as well. I do it for the razors, and on occasions, I dabble in other products they offer.

A 6-ounce shave butter costs about $7 and you could add them to your subscription. It took me a little bit to get used to the texture and consistency of the shave butter. But, the experience was worth the money spent. Here is a quick breakdown of the pros and cons of each product from my own adventures.

Barbasol

Pros:Cons:
+ Easy to apply- May not be as lubricating
+ Easier to wash off your face- Residues may clog up your sink
+ Easier to wash off your razor- Might need aftershave to ease off some razor burns

Shave Butter

Pros:Cons:
+ You can see where you are shaving- Harder to tell how much you'd need to apply
+ Does not create residues that clog up your sink- Takes more effort to wash off your face
+ Aftershave is usually not needed- Cakes up your razor

It's hard to say which one I would wind up keep using. The butter does seem more expensive per ounce, but it has some nice upsides. I may consider having both of them so I can have options. Looks like the shave butter is getting new packaging too, but you can see that on its website.

I love the shave butter! I switched several years ago and I would never go back now. The difference is just amazing. In my younger years I used to use a shaving soap and one of the badger hair brushes, but even this is better than that was. I usually wait until I have a bit of extra money and stock up on the shave butter. I only shave about twice a week, so a bottle lasts me a long time.

Yeah, these days I shave like 3 times a week, so things don't run out quite as quickly.

This is what I use. I switched to double edge razors which works really well. After the initial purchase it is a lot cheaper.

That's kinda nice. I have to shave things off by the third day, or they will start to itch, unless I go full beard.
