Dacia Duster - To Buy Or Not To Buy?

(Edited)

Hey BRO fam, what's up?

I cashed out some of my crypto holding the past month so I can FINALLY buy a decent car and after a ton of research I think I found the one that better fits my needs (and pocket haha).

Used Dacia Duster '12 1.5 Prestige AWD

Yeap, that's the one and it's got pretty much everything I was looking for! It looks awesome and comfortable, it has a fairly economical 1.5 diesel engine, 4-wheel drive and an attractive price of $11000 but...

...This is the 1st time I'm gonna buy a car and don't wanna fuck things up hahaha!

The main reason I wanna buy a car is because me and my gf @illusivelf love roadtrips but my father's tiny Opel Corsa '04 I'm using these days is not letting us explore Greece to the fullest!

Sure, my father's legendary Opel is ok for short trips but driving this thing gets really tiresome after 2-3 hours. Also our travel choises are limited since we can't go off road so having a vehicle that can handle a bit tougher road situations like climbing up a mountain is gonna be EPIC!

Dacia Duster - To Buy or Not To Buy?

I already booked an appointement with the car dealer for tomorrow but I'm having second thoughts about buying it the last few hours! I guess that's bacause I'm both super-stoked and anxious at the same time!

I need your help BROs

I've seen a ton of videos about Duster and everyone says it's a good one but I don't tend to trust most of those Car-Tubers out there so...

  • Does any of you BROS owns an AWD Duster or driven one?
  • How does it handle road and off-road conditions?
  • Is the Renault 1.5 Diesel engine this thing has reliable?
  • What about running costs?
  • What's the biggest problem you faced with your Duster?
  • Do you think Duster will be able to hold some of it's value if I choose to sell it in the future?

Thanks in advance for taking the time replying to my post and here's the link to the Dacia I'm gonna check out tomorrow if you wanna take a deeper look

Cheers and waiting for your replies!

I don't like any cars branded in Dacia. However, I heard that this model is good at off-road.

Unfortunately I can't afford a Suzuki Vitara (dream car) or any famous brands SUV!

Looking for something with AWD which will also be decent on the asphalt and at a "friendly" price! I'm open to all suggestions, didn't close the deal yet!

I'm not sure but I suppose you're not from Romania.
Here's a forum in English. I hope you've already read the threads here, if not, it may help.

I'm from Greece @erikah! I did read a bunch of threads there and most people seem to be ok with the Duster if you don't mind the sound of cheap plastics while off-roading hahhaa!

Do you own or ever driven one?

I don't own, nor drive one, but I'm from Romania, where these are made :)))) So you know what people say about locally made cars. Everyone wants a foreign one but for you this is foreign.

If you buy a brand new one, you have a few years or service guaranteed anyway. At the end of the day it all comes down to quality/price ratio.

I think it's definitely scary to buy a new car! We've done it twice and it's gone over well so far. One of the things that's important, in my opinion, is to get something you can afford. It seems like this one is a decent car and something you can afford so it should serve you well for a while! We are going on 5 years with our first brand new car and although we dislike the car itself, it's running well! The warranty is a big bonus as well, hopefully you get a decent warranty.

Seeing as this was a few days ago, did you end up buying the car?

Nope, didn't end up buying anything yet! Still on the lookout for a few more opportunities! Got all fired up with this one and need to relax a bit before I buy one haha! Car FOMO all the way!

Unfortunatelly this is a used one so it comes with no warranty! WIsh I could afford a new one and I could if I sold at the top hahaha! Mistakes were made man!

You drive a Subaru right?

Good memory dude! Yeah we have a Subie and sadly, don't know if it's the particular model or what but we are sorely disappointed with it lol. Handles well in snow but otherwise the car feels cheap despite it being incredibly popular as a car. We did get a base model which was the cheapest but I was certainly hoping for quality.

Ah, used cars can be good. I bought a few used cars, my latest one was a used truck and it ended up lasting me around 50k miles before I sold it to someone else. It's good to be hesitant from getting into a big purchase when it's not the right time so keep your eye out and a deal will come your way.

With owning your own car, are you looking to try and get some tools and learn to fix things? That's a huge help!

Yeap, planning on moving at a small seaside city in June/July and my goals are to learn how to grow plants and vegetables as well as do some DIY house and car stuff! Need to keep myself busy over there hahaha!

Oh man, wish I could own a big 3x3 truck! You pay a ton of money to the state every year if you own any 2000cc+ vehicles!

That sounds awesome, moving to a smaller town is great! Living in cities is okay but it's definitely better to move to the smaller places. With that though, you certainly need a car! You'll learn all kinds of stuff, it's a lot of fun and thankfully we have YouTube now lol I would recommend installing the YT dislike counter again, there are some bad videos out there for tutorials!

Sure thing man! I really suck in DIYstuff but I guess it's never too late to start learning hehe!

How about you? Is everything alright?

Everything is good! I'm adjusting to the new job I'm at, takes time for sure! We are trying to move to a warmer state but prices are incredibly high so we are hoping to wait it out a little bit and see if things come down. I want to move ASAP but I also don't want to spend 20-75% more for a place lol

DIY is a lot of fun, one of the big things is to get some basic tools. Being skaters, we have some decent tools already! What helps is getting some basic car tools for sure. One thing I've used lots of times, both in car repairs and home stuff, is called a "breaker bar" which is a really long bar with a socket on the end. Insanely useful in lots of situations!

Also, don't know if the awesome folks at @planetauto have driven this car and have any insight for you on it!
