Bokeh effect and its application to photography
Hello dear friends of hive this is my first publication, I am very excited about this new platform and of course with the community with which I am used to share my posts dedicated to the photographic art, music and theater.
For today I bring you some examples of how to use the Bokeh in photography, it's very easy to learn from this effect as long as we follow some recommendations before taking full advantage of this technique.
First let's talk about the Bokeh concept. It is an optical effect that is based on the aesthetics of the blur that can be seen in a photograph, and is possible thanks to lenses with large light aperture colo the 50mm, 90mm and all those telephoto lenses that can offer great distortion thanks to the intentional blurring or when focusing a subject achieving a wider and more pronounced radial blur than in other types of optics.
Many differ from the fact that the Bokeh is not a technique, for me personally every action that requires to follow steps and manipulation of elements leads directly to generate a technique, so let's see how you achieve some effects that we can do in portrait photography as well as simple decorative effect.
In the case of the portrait photography it will always be indispensable to make the subject stand out therefore the use of 50mm lenses is a universal classic of the photographic portraits, in the examples we can notice how at a focal distance of 1 meter and a half from the subject plus the correct exposure and correct focus we can achieve a Bokeh effect that will disappear the annoying background, with this the viewer will feel attracted only to the subject.
But the fact of using the Bokeh effect does not mean that it can be used as we want, we will always have to take into account what kind of background we have in front of our eyes, especially because many times the color, lighting and extra elements in our background can alter the final view of the subject.
My recommendation is to look for places with little contrast with the subject, for example if the subject is white, avoid backgrounds with the same color, if the subject is dark, avoid backgrounds with little light. With these recommendations we won't have to worry and we can concentrate on the composition.
Finally I was practicing a basic and simple way to obtain Bokeh with few elements, only a cardboard, scissors, a marker and Christmas lights. Surely you have seen tutorials, it's easy and fun, we must make the pattern on the cardboard, cut out and then place over our lens and blur the result is simply spectacular, we can get shapes depending on what our imagination wants, in my case I chose a Christmas tree and silhouette of a kitten that although it did not come out as I expected it is still valid colo experiment.
Feel free to explore and experiment with photographic techniques, it's an inexpensive way and you can practice enough to see the progress and show everyone your visual skills.
