Photography as a method of abstraction

This week I will dedicate a series of publications in which I will analyze and show examples of photography in various styles and techniques, today I will start with abstract photography as a method.

When choosing a subject for a photographic work must be taken into account the intention, research as a photographer want to highlight, in my case this blog has shown for 2 years different styles of photography being the documentary genre the most developed by me, secondly the nature genre.

However, in this publication I intend to leave my comfort zone and introduce the reader to a style that, although I have developed it in other moments of my life as a photographer, I have never presented an idea like this. Today I have chosen abstract and direct photography as a means of expressing certain characteristics of our species as a critical method of our most deeply rooted customs.

Being in the parking lot while cleaning the car, I saw in a corner near a sidewalk a set of elements that caught my attention, at first I saw everything as waste or garbage is really just that. Then I thought of arranging everything with a frame that would allow me to compose a solid idea.

A DVD tray, a cassette case, a printer cartridge and a rotten fish head next to straw, earth was grouped together as a result of sedimentation, I do not know in what times or periods all these elements came to be close to each other.

The human being is an accumulator being, he accumulates money, he accumulates garbage, he accumulates objects, grains in threads, he accumulates thoughts, he accumulates water, as an accumulator being there are also moments of discarding, although to discard also denotes accumulation as it indicates to accumulate garbage is to discard only that under the premise of the physics rule, the matter is not destroyed only is transformed.

This composition also indicates different technological stages such as the cassette case which in its time revolutionized the music industry as well as the DVD, technology discarded only to change shape to keep the consumer population entertained.

Consumers consumed by their memories in their eagerness to keep repeating the same pattern, this if worthy of study, industries have accustomed to all discard regardless of risk of contamination, this is really worrying.

In this series we can see ourselves reflected in technology and food, we are garbage? Or are we more than that? It will be up to the next generations to change the course of history, hopefully before we try to end our species and the others that inhabit our beloved and polluted planet.

On an artistic level I would classify this type of photography as direct and abstract photography and I have expressed the argument to use my trained eye to identify the elements that I composed in this series which I have left without a name.

Conclusion

The photography that I have tried to express, gives me repulsion, sadness, nostalgia for past technology, we are so beautiful and so ugly as a species that causes scolding and flattery, it is like a toxic relationship of all the good and bad that we produce.

I invite others to do similar work and share points of view, I am sure that in different cultures you will be able to appreciate different types of elements in photographs. Although I wouldn't be surprised if what we appreciate is no longer garbage because we all share globalised waste.

Thanks for reading
